Difference between trim packages

Guys (and any women on these pages),

What are the differences between the Comanche Eliminator and Sportruck packages??

(Inquiriing minds want to know).

Slainte'

Pretty simple -- opposite ends of the spectrum. The Eliminator was a top-end model, with bucket seats, center console, alloy wheels, the whole enchilada. The first year of the Eliminator, it was only offered in 2WD.

The SporTruck was the base model. I have an '88. Bench seat, idiot lights, the ungly "station wagon" steering wheel. rubber floor mat instead of carpet, only one side mirror and it's a cheapie, screw-to-the-door type, not the XJ style, and base model 15x6 steel rims.

my sportruck must be middle of the line. Its got both mirrors, the XJ style, but has the idiot lights, bench, but had the supersoaker carpet.

How hard is it to switch a steering wheel? Ive got my hands on a interior-matching jeep wheel with the fake hex screws in it that I wanna put on.

So, just out of curiousity, could the SporTruck I'm looking at have a stock tach? Did any of the Manches? That's about the only "option" I think I care about.

My sportruck has a tach. Well, full gauges. And PS, tilt, carpet, and a bunch of other stuff that I guess might be options...

My '87 MJ Pioneer has full gauges and a tach, and carpeting. My '88 SporTruck has a rubber floor mat, idiot light cluster, and the station wagon steering wheel. I beliece the '86 'X' model had full instrumentation, as well as the Eliminators.

I know all about the availability of the gauge package. When I was buying my 86 Cherokee, Base with no gauges, I wanted the dealer to put the gauges in. You know the routine, back to the manager, call to the factory, etc. "Can't be done. Maybe $800." I priced the parts over the counter at about $200 and got a wiring diagram and decided it would be a direct plug in as we now know. So off to the junkyard and found a 85 unit and in it went for $50. However, had I looked in the Comanche brochure while I was waiting for their huddle, I would have seen that the gauge package was optional on all models. Where the Cherokee had no gauges available for the Base. The other models all had the gauges but the tach was an option. Got took again. Again brilliant marketing and packaging. There are three different gauge assemblies. No gauge, gaues without tach, and complete. It is not a simple matter to pull the fuel gauge and plug in the tach. You need the full panel. An make sure it is the right year. I found out there was a major design change 85 to 86 so I had a 6 cylinder tach in a 4 cyllinder because the older style tach was much more expensive. Then there was the speedo cable change (87, 88) which is really an entire different gauge panel design. And this is all with the blue face gauges. I don't know about the other type.

Bottom line, any Comanche could have a tach.

That'd be cool if you did. I don't really care what the steering wheel looks like, as I hope to be looking outside of the rig when I'm driving it, but it's nice to know in advance, maybe another thing to add to the mod list, if the stock wheel's as ugly as it sounds?
