Anyone else get this PayPal crap?

I stopped using ebay almost a year ago, I sold a couple small things, and had about $3.50 in seller fees. Ebay crap was set up to automatic withdraw from my checking, but I switched banks and forgot out that, went out of town and came back to ebay telling me I owe them $28.50. No way am I paying like 800% fees or whatever it is to ebay. I tried getting a hold of someone, no contact available for this stuff. If you have a dispute, or something you can email someone about that, but I can't get anyone about this. So I boycott Ebay now, haven't used it for a year, I love Craigslist.

Any way, thats not my point.....Paypal, owned by Ebay, sends me this:

Hello DAVE xxxxx,

An explanation of payment holds and how they apply to you

Your business is important to us. That's why we're committed to providing a fast and secure payment service to you and your customers while keeping our prices competitive. We're also committed to clearly communicating changes to our policies and procedures. So, we're writing to let you know about a change to your PayPal account.

From now on, payments you receive will be temporarily held in a pending balance. This pending balance helps make sure that you'll have enough money in your account to cover any buyer claims.

Payments will be held in a pending balance for up to 21 days. For example, if you receive a $100 payment (after fees), the $100 will be held in a pending balance for up to 21 days. After 21 days, the money will be available for withdrawal.

The money may be released sooner if:

1. We can confirm that the item was delivered

2. Your buyer leaves positive feedback. (Applies only to eBay items.)

We know this is a change in the way we do business with you and we hope you understand that you haven't done anything wrong. In deciding whether to apply payment holds, we review many factors including transaction activity, business type, and customer disputes.

Payment holds are often applied to new sellers who don't have a lot of transaction history, sellers in traditionally high risk industries (for example, travel or tickets), or sellers who've had a high number of claims filed against them.

If you're a PayPal Money Market Fund customer, you'll continue to earn interest on the total balance while your money is held.

To learn more about this policy change, please read our latest funds availability policy

We appreciate your business and look forward to a continued partnership. Don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Thanks,

PayPal

So now they just want me to know they will be holding funds that are deposited for 21 days......for my benefit might I ad. I'm glad I don't use ebay, and I haven't, and won't use paypal anymore either.

Welcome to the world of Paypal and ebay. I sell on ebay for part of my living I have tried other places and none have the traffic ebay does I am said to say. They started this new holding crap on new sellers a while ago. Also do be careful as there alot of fake emails from paypal and ebay that try to get you to click on a link and enter your password and user ID(and they do look real). Do this and you get a BIG screwing they will hack into your account. I have to sell on ebay and I did quit for a while had TONS of problems also. I had to face that for me there`s a certain amount of transactions I will loose every year. Oh I had some charge backs fought them and did win somehow.

I got the same thing, the reason is Paypal doesn't want to get screwed and they tell us the seller that it is protecting the buyer. I went with it and after a couple transactions they stop the 21 day thing. It was not 21 days before the payment was put into my acount though. They must just warn you of the max that could happen because I was apalled that they would hold my money from me without my product since I had already shipped it out!! The nerve. I have heard both pro's and con's about the paypal experience and mine thus far is a good one.

I have no problem with paypal. Its Ebay that I have a problem with now. I bought something from a seller, and never recieved it. Opened up a case, they forced the refund through paypal, and I thought it was done. The seller had NSF in the account, so it was delayed 5 days. Then on the day it should have happened the seller stopped payment. I called paypal and talked to someone who was helpful, and she transferred me to ebay, who was now responsible for reimbursing me. I sat on hold for one and a half hours twice, to no avail. I haven't had the energy or desire to sit on the phone for that long again... So I haven't followed it up yet.

All over about $18, but its the point none the less.

:dunno: i don't do a whole lot with them, but i've never really had a problem. they (paypal) also assisted me in getting money back that i had sent as a deposit on an item here on comancheclub when the other party wouldn't refund it. sure it took a while, but you can't take money someone's already spent.

so far i've had a good experience with paypal and ebay. and especially their media sub-page, half.com thats where a majority of students buy their textbooks, they also do games, dvds, cds. had good luck there too.

Well, yea, you can and that's essentially what Paypal does. When they 'assisted' you in getting your money back, they took it from the seller's Paypal account balance. If there was no money in the Paypal account balance, then they reached right into the bank account that is linked to the Paypal account and got the money that way. If there was no money in that, it doesn't matter as the bank account would become overdrawn and that person would have to pay the fines his/her banks imposes for overdrawing an account. This is one problem that people have with Paypal - they can reach into your personal saving/checking account and take money if need be. It seems that they'll often to this without even consulting with you...they just DO it. I've never had an issue with Paypal or ebay, other than ebay's ridiculous listing fees so I'll continue to use both, but likely won't ever sell on e-bay again.

there is a number that you can call for paypal once when i needed to call i just did a google search for it and found it

Getting the paypal number wasn't the problem for me. They were very nice. It was getting anything out of Ebay that was the problem.

  • 2 months later...

I had to bring this back, I openly boycotted and refused to use ebay, and then back when I started this thread I put paypal on that list. I have been dedicated to my position, have not used them at all, and won't. Today I get this in my email:

Hello DAVE ----,

Because of your consistently good performance, we're removing your account's payment hold.

i sell alot of stuff on ebay and craigslist. i'm never really pleased with ebay and paypal. it's kind of something i put up with just because that's where the selling has to take place. i got screwed bad by paypal a year ago. i sold some hard to find audi parts for a fair price, they were in perfect condition. i got paid via paypal, shipped the items and then got a paypal refund to the guy. he complained that the item was not as descried or damaged. i tried to fight it but paypal went with him without any real dispute being allowed on my side. the guy gave paypal some pic's of the items. they were black and chrome and had a broken light and broken tabs clearly shown in the pic's. the ones i sent the guy were black, solid black, with no damage. i even pointed out the pic's on ebay from the original posting. the gave the guy a refund. so i lost the sale money, it cost be $35 in shipping and i got 2 broken pieces back. it was obvious the guy had damaged ones, used mine to replace them, and sent his broken ones back. paypal didn't care. :fs1:

^craigslist all the way, I love buying and selling, and trading on there. Way better than dealing with ebay idiots, I much prefer the craigslist idiots.

i used to be a hardcore CL fan. I would still use it in my extremely local area. Lots of issues with psychos lately. I have found dealing with folks on forums such as this one and some others, have been the best for me. If you screw someone on the forum, believe me everyone is going to know.
