BigDaddy
I just purchased my first 1989 Jeep Comanche 4.0 litre I6. Right on top of the engine towards the front there is a hose that plugs into crankcase? and then goes to a central vacuum harness then the second half of the tube goes to the air box. I am not sure what this piece is called or where to get it. If someone could give a information on how to fix it and stuff like that it would be greatly appreciated! :help:
Eagle
The 4.0L uses a CCV system, not a PCV system. That front hose you see should go into the valve cover, not the crankcase. The front hose is the clean air inlet. The skinny little tube coming out of the rear of the valve cover is the outlet. It goes to the intake manifold, and that's what creates the suction to circulate air through the crankcase to remove fumes. You can buy replacements at NAPA. AmJay
Those parts are available from NAPA or NAPA on line. The complete harness is 2 pieces and includes all the vacuum line tubes. That vacuum harness splits in half. If you look at it there are some clips that hold it together. Each side is around $22.00 if I remember correctly. I've never been able to find just the nipple that goes into the valve cover and with age it becomes plugged and brittle. Also, if you buy it, heat the nipple up a little to soften the rubber because that plastic tube breaks quite easily. Also when you heat it you'll be able to spin the nipple on the tube and get a better alignment. Mac...

If new CCV lines don't do it, then two or three things to try. First get a good seal on your valve cover. I'd see if there are any rubber or rubberized cork gaskets. I went with a '95 valve cover, and then did the Big Tube conversion from the MAD/XJ site. I had to cut the hose and put in some other tubing to lengthen it. The 97+ valve cover has a solid baffle instead of the towers like ours has. mjeff87 has a write-up either in the DIY section or in his build thread. You need to use the 97+ gasket with it. Spend the xtra money for the rubber felpro gasket, the black one with the grommets
Zenobian_84
Sorry to dig this thread up from the grave, but will the Nappa mentioned parts work for the 2.5 instead of the 4.0? I have the CCV system and am looking into getting a new CCV hose and breather connection from the air box to the top of the head. Picture of my engine (- the black tape around the air supply hose) And if these parts aren't compatible, would minor modifications to them make them fit? Rocky Mountain Roy
Yes Napa has the parts for the 2.5. Last time I looked they were about $24 for each half.
