Has anybody tried this on here? I use PB blaster but I might give this a shot. Watching the PB blaster climb up bolt threads is pretty cool if nothing else.

"This information comes from another group but thought it was worth putting up here as well.

Machinist's Workshop magazine tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts. They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment. The results are as follows;

Penetrating oil..... Average load

None ............ ......516 pounds

WD-40 ............ ....238 pounds

PB Blaster ............ 214 pounds

Liquid Wrench ..... 127 pounds

Kano Kroil ............ 106 pounds

ATF-Acetone mix....53 pounds

The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50-50 automatic transmission fluid and aceton

I think it's BS. Like most things arriving via chain mail.

I meant to try it when I first heard it. I just use the torch or grinder method instead, so it's hard to say.

my buddy has been mixing his own up for a long time and it seems to work damn good... he swears by it

Whenever feasible I used to soak rusted stuff in a tub of ATF overnight. Worked way better than WD40. I have since found PB Blaster, and it has never let me down yet. And most things I have used it on don't fit in a tub of ATF easily, like about every bolt on my 22 year old Jeep.

We use kroil at the shop at work as well as pb blaster. I have found on a few occasions now that the kroil will loosen things that blaster won't. They just bought a case of some new stuff called torque cb that is supposedly better than blaster or kroil....I hate to use the new stuff though. It smells like bubble gum and keeps making me hungry......lol

Well I have used the acetone/ATF mix for awhile now. The first thing I noticed is that they don't like to mix very well, So I shake the sprayer good before applying. It seems to work good, I have little patience so I may not give it adequte time to work. It does seem to soak in well and move up threads good. :dunno:

I am getting the same results as pilotblake with the ATF/acetone mix. I will keep trying as I have to work on the steering components on my old tractor in the next few days so we'll see how it does.
