lostissues
i have seen a lot of seat posts, i have searched and have not been able to find my answer so here is the question: Can i use bench seat brackets as bucket seat brackets? i have a manche with bench and one with buckets, i had to pull out the buckets to redo my floor, and in the process i demolished the seat brackets, did they make different brackets for the bench and buckets or are the all interchangable? thanks, Jonathan
Pete M
As far as I can tell, yes, they both use the same floor brackets.
jage
worked for me just fine. cut the brackets off the bench, cut the brackets off the XJ seats, a few bolts and they fit perfect on the MJ floor studs. there ar spot welds next to the rivits in both sets of brackets so becareful taking them off or you'll ruin them. DirtyComanche
Be careful - limit sledgehammers to the 4LB variety.

ORCA
Do 2-door XJ seat brackets fit MJ's? I'm pretty sure 4-door XJs do not...
jage
so, No, XJ brackets won't fit...
Pete M
Depends on what he means by "seat bracket". Are you talking about the floor bracket? MJs and XJs don't share them at all. Do you mean the track? Then 2door and 4door XJ share the same track types. The big difference between 2 and 4 doors is that only 2door XJ seats will fold forward to let you gain access to behind the seat. Avoid the curved and power XJ seats unless you want a challange.
DirtyComanche
Avoid the curved and power XJ seats unless you want a challange. They just sit a bit higher... I can see over my hood better now. Only thing is if I flip down the sun visor I can't see $#!&.
Oizarod115
ive got curved buckets swapped in and i definately need to figure somethin out cause i sit waaaay higher than i do when I'm in ma's XJ (same seats)... i like the lower position better, and no tilt wheel makes seeing the gauges challenging. pingpong
When I was running stock seats, I had buckets. What I ended up doing was removing the slider, and welding some plate to the bottom, finding a comfy position, and welding the plate, and seat to the brackets. jage
curved swap in fine with bench seat brackets it's the power XJ seats that don't have any real bracket - it's all part of the seat and won't fit without effort...
Drahcir495
I am selling a set of MJ bucket brackets if you were inerested. They are in the classified section-Rich http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1484
minydigger
I just did the drivers side seat for my manche( haven't got to the pass. side yet) The bucket sits perfect with bench seat brackets swapped over. I had heard they sat high and off center but everthing looks good to me.
Pete M
I had heard they sat high and off center but everthing looks good to me. It depends on which Cherokee seats you start with. I'm guessing you started with plain-jane seats that just slide forward and backward?
lostissues
the thing is that the seats I'm looking to put in are MJ seats, i was wondering if the MJ bench brackets will work with MJ bucket seats? everyone seams to think i want/have seats out of cherokees or xj seats, but I'm looking to see if MJ bench brackets will mount up with MJ bucket seats. Thanks, Jonathan
87manche
take apicture of your bench brackets if you can. I'll go look at my bucket brackets and compare. I would post pics of mine, but the wife has the camera, won't have it for a few days.
jage
my curved XJ seats were high but I didn't notice any off-centering. if you're 5'10" or less the height would probably be a bonus.. um.. why don't the MJ buckets have MJ bucket brackets? I don't see why they wouldn't work. The front looks a little taller in the diagram, but that's assuming it's to scale.

I will see about taking pictures of the bench brackets, but it may be hard, I'm working a lot and the bench is still on it, i don't want to spend the energy to take it off it it won't fit. um.. why don't the MJ buckets have MJ bucket brackets? i had to pull out the buckets in order to get a good look at my lack of a floor, rusty bolts and me gettin annoyed means pulling the seat out of the door and jumping on it till something gave, hense the need for new brackets, i wasnt thinking about the future
Eagle
The bench brackets are the same, but they only have one track on each bracket. The bucket seat brackets have two tracks. If you didn't destroy the inner tracks, you can transfer them over to the bench seat brackets. If the tracks are history, you have a problem. Take a look at the illustration Pete posted and you'll see what I'm talking about:
