oldrusty
must be used for runways or something. i do want one though    Bingo. they use them on the airports for snow removal. Thw way they usually use them here is to run 4 to 5 plows in a line with the blower bringing up the rear. The plows clear all the snow to one side of the runway and then the blower blows it away so there are no large piles or windrows along the edge of the runways or taxiways. brdhntr
yep, tey're cool. we have a few here that the city uses. they use them to get rid of the piles along the road so you can see cars coming. they usually set the shoot to go into a dump truck. then the dump truck hauls it to a field and dumps it. yes we have fields here that are used to "store" snow taken from the streets and parking lots. they have smaller ones that are used to do city sidewalks and smaller jobs. it is fun to watch them. Concept2w
:Canadaflag: We see bigger rigs here. And that one is a very old model. I've seen ones with twice the height of the blade rotor you see here. We have sh*t load of snow, so we need big *ss blowers. I wish I had a picture. When they clean streets, there is a man in front with a flag-pole that pokes snowbanks in case they don't chop-chop children hidden in their fort. here is a couple of machine we see often
brdhntr
the pic of the rail car with the plow is funny. i always laugh at how small they are but how much snow they can plow through. my grandpa was a railroad man. i have pic's of him shoveling out a steam engine by hand. incredible pic showing the drift about 10' higher than the locomotive. but they still got it shoveled out. i'd post the pic if it would tuen out after scanning, but it's an old photo that has yellowed greatly. DirtyComanche
There's lots of junk like that around where I work... They also have ones that don't have augers, but big brushes in them instead. I don't know what the reasoning is, but they go out when its only light snow, I guess it cleans ALL of the snow off the runway. Of course, for us, we always just dig the machines out by hand. Its not like we have to clear a runway for a helicopter. Oh, and rotary snowplows are pretty cool. I've seen lots of pictures of them chewing through snow deeper than they are tall.
