ROADLESS
Doesn't it get hot in Texas :smart: or are you immune to the 120* + temps that a black painted rig would create (he he)!
SlickRick421
Well basically when it gets past 100 and like 90% humidity it really doesnt matter what color your car is. So i figured what the hell i love the color on trucks I have a truck so why not paint it flat black

GirsMJ86
use rustoleum flat black.. it comes out the same color everytime :brows: i will 2nd that. i have tons of cans left that i bought when they had the "33% more" ones at lowes. i have even sprayed it on paper plates and "touched up" chips around my windsheild and stuff. alex
egghead
Flat black is the perfect color for a rig. Its so easy to do a touch up job if you get a little scratch or two. Git r Done!
Pete M
I hate owning dark color rigs. I've got a dark red MJ and it heats up like nobody's business in the sun. It will eventually be a light tan color (maybe like a desert camo).
DirtyComanche
The semi-gloss black bedliner on my truck was a great idea. Right. Maybe if I had A/C. Ohwell.

GirsMJ86
before i painted mine black i insulated tha cab way better then they were ever meant to be. i used heat sheilding and denim insulation and that foam window insulation. but it wasnt that yellow kind that gets all over the place, this stuff was white, thicker, and didnt expand as much. and lets just say that even though it is flat black now, my cab stays nice and cool for the most part. it not like my 86 C10 that is also black but no cab insulation. heck my gfs silver cav gets hotter then my mjs. alex
SlickRick421
I didnt even think to insulate my cab And I was planning on using rustoleum anyway. I was going to do it this weekend but I am going out of town I will be doing it Next weekend though i will take plenty of pics. I don't mind it being hot I am used to it after all i am a Texan PLus you can't beat the 2.....80 series Air conditioning and yes the MJ does 80 easy

Pete M
Be careful with that expanding foam. It can trap in places moisture, or even worse, some of them seem to attract moisture.
87manche
Be careful with that expanding foam. Pete M
hy·gro·scop·ic adj. Readily absorbing moisture, as from the atmosphere. Been a while since I used that term so I had to look it up to be sure. :D
87manche
all urethane formulations cure in a hygroscopic manner, same this with gorilla glue. If you want to speed up the cure on that then you lightly mist one side of the mating parts before sticking them together. The "white" foam mentioned previously is not likely a urethane foam, which is why it's a better choice. That's also why it doesn't expand as much. Pete M
Who needs AC on a trail rig anyways driving :nanner: I do! Too bad I ain't got it. My interior blower doesn't even work at this minute. I have a cheap clip-on 12volt fan that I picked up at the auto store that I hang from the back window and point at me. You can sort of see it in this pic:
87manche
I wished we had AC in the 95* NC heat for two days. In cab temp was probably 110. You're not missing much with the interior blower, on my rig it was just sucking in hot air, it was better with it off. I may pick up a 12V fan like that, it may be the best solution. Just a thought on your fan though, mine was the connector on the right of the HVAC controls, just worn out, prongs not making contact. I cut the connector off and put regular spade connectors on it, works like a champ.
sinnaevd
AC is a ust even in the winter when you are as heavy as I am....Man i love the snow :D
GirsMJ86
on the subject of the thermal fuse being worn out under the pass side dash i found a site that has them in stock that you can order. just for those of you that don't want to risk a short or fire more then some of our wireing is prone to. here's the site for em: http://www.mouser.com/search/refine.asp ... fType=Home the ones out of the mjs are 128*C but you have to get a 130*C one, part number 447-XYP2BN124. and moisture does not affect my 86. can we say por-15 where i could get it. :D alex
Frankensteinsmj
Slickrick, just my 2-cents, try looking into hot rod black primer, it looks the best of all primers, plus if you decide to paint it l8r you'll have less prep work. looks trick and easy to respray. Just an idea. Yeah when I bought mine the ac worked fine, now I think I have a leak and the compressor isn't kicking on, I think its the pressure switch!
