ProtoFab RockSolid Rear MJ Bumper

Recommended Posts

I have been working on Mike at ProtoFab to make some sliders for the LB MJ for a while now. Well, I mention to him that I would also like to get one of his RockSolid Rear XJ Bumpers modified to work on a MJ. Today my friends - as the Maverick would say - I got my bumper jamminz.gif. I passed on the first one {another lucky CC member picked it up} because I wanted some custom work done to mine. We officially have another rear MJ bumper option! Here is a picture of the prototype bumper until I get my own mounted up ->

This thing is very heavy duty, and I am extremely impressed with the quality.

I will be updating my build-up thread with all the progress pictures -> http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopi ... &start=120.

Be sure to check out Mike’s web site http://www.protofab4x4.com , and don’t forget to tell him that we need Rock Rails for our trucks!

Yeah...it appears that the site is down.

I have the front bumper from them and love it.

Rich...are they going to offer the rear without a tire carrier? I don't care for the looks of that on a truck.

Yeah, it looks like the site is down. I figured I would post it up because it is bound to come back online.

Yes, the bumper was offered to me without the swing-out tire carrier. I chose to get it because; it can be easily removed, and I did not want to regret not getting it later. To be honest, I originally did not want it. After staring at the picture for hours, it grew on me :D .

cool bumper.. agree about the spare carrier, but that thing needs some points for d-rings for sure....
I wish the site was up - they offer the those as upgrades on their XJ bumpers. I see no reason why they would not be offered on the MJ bumpers - same base design. I did look at adding those on, but I decided agaist it. I wanted a smoother look, and in my opinion it made the bumper look to busy. I could be wrong, it may not look that way in person :dunno:

Crap. I thought these guys were in FL. AZ, too far shipping wise. It's the cleanest design for the MJ rear I've seen and w. the built in hitch would prolly save a bit of weight over the stock bumper + the hitch I have now.

Ain't no chroming places here. I think they are all out in Cali.

I had my front bumper shipped from them to FL. It cost me $97 to ship and I am sure it weighs more than the rear one will.

EDIT: I take that back...just went and looked at the site and the Cherokee bumpers shown range between 94 - 104 lbs...my front is 96 lbs...

Mine was shipped UPS ground - three pieces total. If I remember correctly, I think it was going to be $140? Don't quote me on that, because Mike was kind enough to send it out using my UPS account number. Shipping should be cheaper without the tire carrier.

BLHTAZ, do you remember a company in CLW/StPete called Alert Bumper? I ask because I am sure you deal with a lot of part suppliers, and I seem to recall them doing metal plating. They may be able to help out hornbrod.- Rich

  • 1 month later...

I got another idea for that tire carrier.

take your tailgate off and have the protofab guys put a bend in the verticle arm so the tire sits at a 45* angle, it would look sorta like that tire gate thing, but look better and be a lot more resonable priced.

3 cheers for the protofab guys though, for listening to customers and coming out with a very good looking bumper.
