Now, my cab window was broken. The glass is discontinued, so I had to junkyard myself a new window. The only one I could find was a one peice.

I'll get you a pic in a minute. Hopefully.

not really, it is upside down though.

it's just a clip that slides over the frame and into a recess. Look at the frame for the recess and you'll know how big a clip to find.

it pivots and it's spring loaded.

i was going to say, there are two different rear windows. big middle window and two in the middle. my 86 and 88 both have the bigger one and only my 88 had the clip. i almost broke the glass trying to get it off the 88 for my 86. i got it and it works great. just for a heads up at how well these are stuck on it seems.

My old manche (sold) had just glass no clip, no place for a clip (As far as I recall).

The one I have now has a clip.

Both are/were 3-pieces of glass.

Also, I drove the old one up to Chicago once and the driver door lock was falling apart, so when I put the key in it was 1 time too many and it broke off. I slid the glass open and used a broom handle to pop the lock. It was a lifesaver and only took like 30 minutes.

I wouldn't worry about it not having a clip. :)

Speaking of keys (and because I'm a thread burglar  ) anyone hate the insta-key (Access+) version of the keys? Ignition key square with the hole in a corner and door key SQUARE too with a hole in the middle (the old ignition key shape).

The old round door key shape is hard to find because almost all the stores and shops switched over to the Access+ machines. The Wal-mart of locksmithing...

Since my dad just gave me 3 square keys with the truck, the old ignition and two door keys which were all indistinguishable, I went on a quest to find decent key blanks. Took me forever to find a place with actual round door keys, but I did so now I can tell them apart.

I do believe that factory sliders were all 3-windows and the 4-window ones were aftermarket.

Bingo. Only the 3 peice sliders and single peice are listed for stock replacement glass.

yeah that was my backup plan. luckily a little local hardware store had an old less automatic key grinder with different blanks.

makes me feel like an old fart - I'm trying to explain to these kids at all the other stores that the keys should be square, no the other one, and round, and they don't believe me because they don't have blanks like that, and are sort of confused the whole time, with that questioning 'tude: "You like crazy? Like, don't all cars have just one key?"

Reminds me- a few years ago I was in a bank and the teller called her manager because she'd never seen an old style $100 bill before...

Now I *really* feel like a rambling old fart.

You all still use keys to start your rigs

I left my keys in the house on my way to the hardware the other day. I just started it with a penny from the coin tray :) Key's are optional.

Ditto on the key thing. My son's XJ is like that, it would be nice to find a source for the round blanks :headpop: .

how does the clip on the window come off. mine has always been broke.. but

at the same since i can still lock it if need be..its not spring loaded in anymore cause half of it broke off. (before my time) i can push it over and it will catch in the indent and lock, but i have had to slide the window open numerous times for dumuss incidents on my part.
