  1. I'm having trouble locating a Filler Neck Replacement. I'm not looking for the hose. I want the metal filler with the overflow/breather piece. If someone could provide me with a pn or link to a replacement. It would be greatly appreciated. 1992 Jeep Comanche 4.0L, Ax15, SB, 18 gallon Tank
  2. In my 88 pioneer, i6 4.0L that I’ve recently purchased I’ve changed out the fuel filter and fuel pump/assembly after it sat for a year-ish. It ran decent with the old gas that was in it but since I’ve added new fuel in it runs like crap. I’ve added seafoam and got the oil changed. When it runs anywhere above 3,000 rpm and then I let off the gas it drops below 750rpm, stutters and almost/sometimes dies. I’m not sure what to check next since I’ve done the fuel pump and filter. Thanks in advance!
  3. Hi all, I just got my Rockauto order in with a new vacuum harness, and I got it all replaced. Now my low idle issue is fixed-ish. It’ll still idle low, but it won’t stumble and die. I noticed that my EGR solenoid was disconnected at the bottom, And when I plugged it in it ran like a top, only problem is it backfires, but only when warm, it doesn’t when cold. The EGR also makes a quack noise as well. I’m glad it’s running better now, but I don’t want to blow a huge hole in my muffler/cat, and also it’s a bit annoying. thanks in advance.
  4. I just recently bought an 88 Comanche that is a really big Frankenstein with a 91 Cherokee. I went to fill up the tank and as usual in jeeps, the pump wanted to stop every 5 seconds. Tried going slowly but nothing worked. It took me 10 minutes to get 2 dollars in, and when I did the gas started to overflow. That is where my bigger issue is... there is barely any gas in the tank and it won’t fill up? Any help? THANKS!
  5. Recently purchased a 1988 Comanche with a 1998 4.0L swap. Gas gauge wasn't working and was always sitting on E with the light on. Previous owner told me it was the fuel sending unit. Replaced the sending unit/pump and the gas gauge worked till I took it to the gas station and turned her off. Once I turned her back on the needle was back to 0 with the E light permanently on. Occasionally the needle will go up to a quarter, but the light will stay on and the needle will return to E shortly after. Any ideas?
  6. So I have a 95 dodge dakota sitting in my driveway, with a seized motor. I read somewhere that some dakota parts are interchangeable with MJs. Specifically talking about the fuel tank/sending unit. Can anyone confirm this? If not, is anything else on the dakota worth saving before I haul it to a scrap yard? My MJ is in need of a few minor things (antenna, parking break cable). Anyone know if any of those will work? I'm not sure exactly what year dakota parts are supposed to be interchangeable, as everything I have read just says "dakota". I would assume it would only be first gen dakotas though, in which case, I'm out of luck.
  7. Been working on my jeep on and off, mostly done. But life keeps getting in the way.. Anyway, I'm having power issues. My fuel pressure is ~20PSI with vacuum connected, and ~22 no vacuum. Seems low, right? I changed the diaphragm on the rail, same results. There is no ballast in line, direct wired. I'm thinking the fuel pump. Just looking for ideas before I order another pump.
  8. Back again guys this time it's a fuel problem was going up a hill it had been bucking for about 40 miles finally it died mid way up the hill it'll start and run for about 10 seconds and die. So I changed the pump fuel pressure regulator vacuum lines etc.... now it'll start perfectly and stay running but has zero power and if you Rev it it almost dies after letting off its also back firing through the throttle body I'm guessing a voltage problem to the pump but any other options would be great to check into
  9. So 3 weeks ago i bought an 89 comanche short bed 5 speed with 91 thousand miles on it clean frame and good body. I paid 1000 doallars at police auction. I finaly got it home changed the oil and filter, drained the fuel and added new tried to start it, i had no spark. So i started to check things out so far i have replaced the CPS, Coil, Cap, Rotor, Wires and ICM was going to change the plugs but after i pulled one and i looked brand new i decided not to, after all that got it to start, but it would stall while driving. I replaced the the TPS and it was good to go or so i thought. It drove fine for three days. my brother had it on friday and said it ran great, actully better then his 90 cherokee when it was renix (we just swapped in everything from a 95 so i have an extra renix engine and majority of sensors) so saturday i go to drive it and it was running like total garbage and got worse till it stalled. now it starts runs so rough that it seems like i have muitple cylinders missing and there is no throttle input. I checked my fuel pressure its at 38 pounds. I'm going to change the spark plugs to see if maybe i fouled one or mutiple out while trying to get it to start and I'm going to change my fuel filter because i wanted to do it any way. So what should i check after i do the plugs and filter. I'm leaning towards something fuel related because it got so low (less then 1/8th) and i don't know the quality of gas that was in there. As far as service records or any history i don't know any. The only tring i know is that it sat for at least two years at the impound.
  10. I have and 88, 4.0, standard. I put a new engine in 2 years ago (pulled it all by my tiny self, hence the self portrait in the left corner). This Comanche is truly a labor of love. It was running great afterthe new engine, but the honeymoon is over. I'm having trouble diagnosing the latest challenge. It started to kind of hiccup and/or stall while driving one night. Then completely stalled on the highway and would not restart. It had plenty of power to turn over but wouldn't completely start, though it valiantly tried. I guessed fuel issues so I had my son bring me a fuel filter... it was worth a try. I put it on and it started. Wow, did I actually fix it on the side of the road??? Well, no. It drove home then started to do it again the next day. I was almost on E, so I got gas and suddenly it drove great! It stayed running for a couple of weeks, so I figured I had gotten bad gas. Well, no, again!! it started doing it all over, and I had just gotten gas at Shell, the gas couldn't have been that bad, right? I did some goggling and tried replacing the MAP. Nope, didn't fix a thing. It barely wants to idle and the idle is all over the place like it's trying to figure out how much gas it needs to stay running, and will eventually die. Plus, it is very rough sounding, almost like a timing issue, but I don’t think that’s it. I bought a fuel pressure gauge and goggling tells me it should read 39-41 psi, providing I have MPI (I think I do?) I will describe what the fuel pressure gauge did because if I had to guess, I would have called in a priest for an exorcism. One friend actually suggested I park my truck in a church parking lot over night to see if that would help. Anyway, the gauge violently bounced from 35-40psi while it tried to idle, even after it had warmed up. I had my son try to hold the rpms at about 1500 and the gauge would drop to 30psi and be slightly more stable but not by much. Even when the throttle was held at 1500 rpms, there was still a lot of fluctuation like it was confused and unstable. Also, I have checked all the vacuum hoses and they are all in place as far as I can tell. My gut tells me it's some kind of sensor or vacuum issue. From what I have read here in some of the forums, I think I need to do a vacuum test next and I'm guessing again (I do a lot of that) that I need to buy another gauge. There is a lot of talk in these forums about valves and sensors like: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valves, Idle Air Control (IAC), Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and the Electronic Control Module (ECM). I hope it's not the computer $$$! I don't know where to start with these, is there an order to go in and can you test or clean them, maybe even bypass one or two? The last car I did a lot of work on was a 72 Cutlass with a 350 rocket, it was so simple, sigh... I could sit in the engine compartment with plenty of room for beer and tools. There wasn’t much in the way of electronics or vacuums. So if anyone can point me in the right direction with out kicking me in the a$$, I would be grateful. Many thanks in advance!
