  1. Probably the major issue would be running rich, so gas mileage would suffer.
  2. I've got a pair of MJ buckets (w.o. brackets) left over. Too bad you're so far away.
  3. No wonder you can't take a pic of the cover for me! :brows:
  4. Good points. But have you ever heard of the unibody frame/no frame issue mentioned by the OP? I can't see how a slide-in camper would present any unique stress issues for the frame, separate from the load capacity/suspension strengthening/stability issues.
  5. You rang? :brows: The owner's manual agrees that you should not carry a camper. My camper weighs 1000# which is the load limit for a stock MJ bed. But fitted out with the metric tonne upgrades, I just don't see the problem. And I'm offroad a lot.
  6. Paradise by the dashboard light? :brows:
  7. Ditto! I just swapped in a set of XJ seats, cause I liked the cloth much better than my (somewhat decrepit) vinyl seats, and I prefer as much bolster as I can get. I have Recaros in my 2002Tii, and with the large thigh and side bolsters, you don't move around at all. Unless I had to carry three people routinely, I wouldn't have a bench if you paid me.
  8. So I'm not the only one with this problem. I'll be interested to hear what works for you.
  9. Welcome! And, dayum! I thought I was busy with only one kid left at home! :D
  10. Sounds like it might be expensive, but let's talk. I'll PM you.
  11. My MJ carries a small camper: and generally sets parked between excursions to Baja. The camper adds about one foot to each side, and perhaps two feet over the roof line. I'd like to get a cover for it, but most truck covers I've seen are tailored to fit a truck with an empty bed. Anyone know of a source for a reasonably priced cover that would include space for a camper, or at least a camper shell. Maybe a cover sized to fit a full sized pickup with shell would do the job? As an alternative, any thoughts about using a cover for a large SUV, like a Ford Excursion or a Hummer?
  12. Not to mention that an open fire would simply transfer the pollution into the air. AFAIK it would not get hot enough to complete the task of cracking the hydrocarbons. You'd need a blast furnace for that. Remediation, baby! :clapping:
  13. Isn't there also an enzyme/catalyst mixture available commercially that will degrade the oil into harmless, easily biodegradable components over a short period of time? I seem to remember reading about it, but didn't find it on the InterWeb. Edit: Wait, I found one: http://www.oilspillrem.com/ Look under Motor Oil Remediation.
  14. That's what I would do! I mean, really, how many times have you had to get into your locked truck from the passenger side? I'm not even sure why they have keyed access from that side.
  15. If it's anything like one of these puppies: I'll fly out there and test it out for ya!
  16. Why would mal adjustment cause it to pop out, then pop back in? And the fact that it's speed dependent? :dunno:
  17. Intermittent vacuum leak?
  18. :waving: 300K and counting here! Compression is still 150# across the board (don't what OEM would be, but it's a low compression motor, right?). Oil pressure is 40# when cold, 20-25# when hot @2500rpm. Main seal leaks a bit, and a slight amount of oil blow by into the air filter. Everytime I think about a rebuild, I stop myself. Keep running it and build yourself a stroker in your spare time. Then you'll REALLY have a reason to change the motor.
  19. Well, he said in the OP that he doesn't like spending money on hotels, and hates tents, so if he's going out on multi-day trips, I'm not sure how many other alternatives there are, that would also fulfill his stated priorities. Of course, he could always get himself one of these: But I think he's aiming for something more like this:
  20. But he said he wants to wheel with it. I wouldn't even pull most pop-up trailers on a Baja road, let alone try to wheel with one. My buddy uses his Ram 2500 Diesel to pull a trailer carrying pit gear, and it is the biggest PITA once we get into the gnarly stuff. which is another thing i don't get. why do want all that extra weight? the only thing i could see it even remotely useful for is if you went on some long cross country vacation into the mountains and such. imo, this is a huge waste of time and money. Are you asking me or the OP? I don't want to hijack his thread again.
  21. Doesn't sound like a fun trip, and I agree about LA - major suckage. But SD is nice. :D I'd love if if we could fund and build a limited access upper deck on the I-5 or the I-405. From North of LA down as far as San Clemente. No onramps, only offramps . :clapping:
