Are these the same part numbers for the 2.5L 4Cyl vacuum harness? Thanks! -
Bent My Dana 30 Looking For Axle Swap Options

Truck: '87 Comanche, 2WD, 2.5L, AX-4. This labor day weekend I will be swapping a '94 YJ 2.5L into my truck. Since this is may daily driver, I want to make the swap over the weekend and hope to foresee any major issues. Let me know if you have any things I should be prepared for. So far: 1) I stripped the '94 engine down to long block; Pulled the pan and inspected the engine; looks good. 2) Will use the existing RENIX harness, ECU, intake and exhaust 3) Will use the '94 distributor, but the RENIX coil 4) Will swap over the RENIX fly-wheel to the '94 during the swap (Thanks Cruiser). 5) Will use the '94 alternator 6) Will use the '94 power-steering pump 7) Planning on pulling the complete trans and engine at the same time; unless not worth it? 8) Will use the '87 starter; seems to be newer than the '94 starter. Any other major items?

I'm getting ready to swap in a 2.5L from a YJ. There are some differences in the engine and need to address them before the swap. Below is a pipe on the engine which leads to the heater. My MJ doesnt have this pipe. The pipe looks pretty rusted and I don't want any issues after the fact. Should I replace the pipe (dealer part?)? Is this different than MJ designs (I can't compare to my MJ since it is a one-off previous owner special). Is this steel pipe intended to clear the belt whereas just a heater hose to the manifold would interfere?

'94 2.5L Fuel Pressure Specs
Comanchemodder replied to Comanchemodder's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Cruiser! I wouldnt have thought of that.... My '94 came with the AX-5 4X4 tranny and was just going to bolt to my AX-4 no questions asked. Saved me a massive headache! -
'94 2.5L Fuel Pressure Specs
Comanchemodder replied to Comanchemodder's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the confirmation. I came to the same realization after researching more. I will strip down the '94 and bolt it up to the Renix. I will tackle the wiring another day. -
Hi guys, Current rig: '87 2.5L 2WD, AX4, Renix Looking to swap to '94 2.5L The current engine leaks oil like the exxon valdez. I bought a newer 2.5L which the PO indicated was from a '94 YJ (but I did not verify). I am prepping for the swap and one question is the fuel needs. The new engine has port fuel injection whereas my Renix has the TB. My plan is to swap in the new ECU and accessories from the '94 and ditching the Renix. Will I need to swap the fuel pump and/or pressure regulator? If yes, are there other components in the fuel system which need swapping due to the higher pressure (filter, lines, etc).

Xj Waggy Or International Axles?
Comanchemodder replied to manche_mane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Also, Scout front axles have zero caster. keep this in mind if you go that direction. On the wagneer axle, make sure it is not the vacuum disconnect years of 82-84. more detail here -
87 2.5 with air-conditioning. it just looks like it's going to be real tight from top or bottom if I don't pull the ac which I really don't want to do. Do you mind posting a picture of you engine. I would like to see the layout of the accessories and belt. Mine is some Frankenstein from a previous owner and trying to calibrate myself on what is normal.

Anyone have any tips on how to remove the two bearing races? I was thinking I could bang out the outer race with a bearing race driver from the inside. However, the race of the inner and outer are close to the same diameter (if not the same). Therefore the driver won't fit through. I don't mind buying the correct tool.. I just couldnt find any good help on-line. Any help would be appreciated.

Serpentine Belt Design
Comanchemodder replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here is an image under the hood of my 87 2WD 2.5L with A/C. The tensioner is in the power steering pump. -
Hi everyone. I am intending on rebuilding my A/C from the ground up. Truck: '87 comanche, 2.5L, 2WD, 4 speed. From other posts I discovered a 94-96 Cherokee system is "bolt in" and is R134 native. However, I looked on autopartswherehouse and they only list hoses for the Cherokee 4.0L sport. None for 2.5L or other models 4.0L models for that matter. Are the hoses the same? Where do you buy your hoses? I don't want to buy hose "kits" since I don't have a crimper, Id rather just buy the factory hoses.
-
I just replaced my pressure side hose and it is leaking again at the crimp joint. Did I just get a bad hose? Are hoses not created equal and there is a quality brand I should find? I am not familiar with PS pumps, is there a relief valve which may be stuck and therefore I get some sort pressure spike which fails the hose? I would expect the hose can hold more pressure than the pump, but not sure.

2.5L Tbi Help!
Comanchemodder replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You checked the O2 sensor. Did you check the MAP sensor voltage? I found the following link very helpful in learning and diagnosing problems with the 2.5l: http://www.4wdmechanix.com/Tuning-and-Troubleshooting-the-2.5L-Jeep-TBI-Four.html- 17 replies

Turn Signal Switch Swap
Comanchemodder replied to Comanchemodder's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm not sure. My symptoms included brake lights not working and dash turn signal (green arrows) both light up when the running lights on. I am on the downward slope for the swap. I will post my results. -
I'm going to change my turn signal switch in hopes to cure several issues. Are there any guides out there? Do you remove the steering wheel or do it under the dash?

What Manuals Are You Using?
Comanchemodder replied to kaiserslaveray's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I picked the combined service manual on CD. Id rather have the paper ones, but the item description said it is a PDF. I figure I can get it printed and bound at Staples if I find myself using it a lot. http://www.ebay.com/itm/370395031922?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 -
Brake Lights Not Working: Help Diagnose
Comanchemodder replied to Comanchemodder's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The plot thickens... Next symptom: To verify, which bulb(s) are the brake lights? On each side there are three bulb sockets. For the brake lights, I assume it will be one or both of the bulbs which are not the back-up lights. Now, for the observation: Driver side: running lights will activate one filament on both bulbs. Turn signal activates the second filament on both bulbs. Passenger side: running lights activate one filament on both bulbs. Turn signal activates second filament on both bulbs. What the!? Something can't be right, no available filaments for the brake light? Is it a shared circuit?
