Bringing this up, I think it would be a great idea to build a system that could tie in with the tow vehicle that could be set up to hit the brakes on the vehicle being pulled when the tow vehicle does. Essentially, make use of the trailering vehicles brakes. If you catch my drift here...

Great news. Let's all get a beer  :chillin: I did last night...

What are these for
rockhardzj replied to JeeperjohnfromPA's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You know OBDII on newer cars? Well, that's Jeep/Renix OBD B.C.150 :D OK, drop the BC150 part... It's the on board diagnostics ports -
Even on the road, IMHO, that axle isn't going to hold very long. Either go to smaller tires, or upgrade the axle if you want the 35's...

if you use google and add site:craigslist.org after your search thenit will search all of craigslist or any site for that matter... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=je ... gslist.org way easier than searching through every city one at a time. Problem is, alot of those are outdated, that I see. My link is all with the newest stuff.

I luckin' fove your truck! Honestly, probably the nicest job done, and looks better than factory! Color is to die for, but I can't afford real paint...

It's called a favicon. Check htmlgoodies.com they have a write up somewhere about it. I think it can also be done through your webhost, to cover all pages.

I have 2 of those yellow boxes sitting here. One is missing a lid, but I'll send you both for $10 plus shipping. Both appear to be in great shape, pulled from a few JY XJ's. I might have a spare cruise cannister with the cable deal sitting around too. I'll see if I can find it.

I have one that I can't get off the damn tie rod... had it soaking in PB Blaster for over a week and a half, and the damn thing won't budge. Nothing but a cut tie rod, and a TRE that won't come out, no sleeve or anything on it... It's a good TRE too, if I can get it off that is, being the reason I'm trying to save it. On another note, I do a quick zip n with those castle nuts with the impact set at level 1 power, then crank it ever so slightly more, if needed by hand so the cotter pin can go through. Maybe about 35ftlbs, if that...

Well hell, check out 3/4 the craigslist listings for mj's and you'll see they are rare trucks... Last I checked, theres a decent selection on eBay, and a good couple handful's on Craigslist, I don't think they are AS RARE as people want you to beleive, for the sole purpose of them being able to jack the price for personal gain. Now, if your talking about a 1997-2001 MJ, like 1999MJ's, or Myself, then your talking about a rare truck, Probably under 100 in existence, they just require a little work to complete is all, and always seem to have a "misinforming" title claiming their build year to be older than it somewhat technically is... :D So really, My truck, and 1999MJ's truck should net over 12k on the auction block. :brows:

Rear steer hydraulics?
rockhardzj replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Or, you can just have it as a low speed motor, attached to the power steering box by a belt and pulley system. The motor can essentially turn it as far as it needs to, and wouldn't actually over steer, as the belt is allowed to slip. If you catch my drift. They use the system in 1:1 scare R/C cars out in the desert, few cheap servos to contol the throttle, an actuator to hit the brake, and an actuater for the gear selector, in an automatic, of course, with all the teeth knocked out so it can freely shift between gears and into reverse. Speaking of 1:1 r/c, anybody got a junk ford escort or something that won't pass inspection that you want to have some fun with out in the desert sometime? :D I'd do a long range system, complete with centrally mounted video camera with a remote signal that can turn 360*... -
Ask him if it's really an 1897! I hope you or someone in the club buys it. It's a pretty nice looking rig, and If I had the cash and a way to get out there, I'd buy it!

not at all, go right ahead. There's nothing truly proprietary here. I think Ive got to redo the list though, adding all the wrong spellings and canada's wrong spellings made google reader not load for me... :( -
It's more than fine for 32's, and moderate wheeling. Street use, it's a perfectly fine axle, and there is no reason to replace it if it has not given you any hiccups. I guess if you tow/haul to capacity alot, a new rear axle might not be a bad decision for load purposes. If you want proof, you need to check out Sir Fuego's ZJ. He beats the ever loving $#!& out of his ZJ with a 2" budget boost, and 32" swampers. I gave him some spare shafts I had because I didn't want him to get stranded 7hrs away in Rausch creek. He still has yet to change a shaft, and the axle has seen probably 5 times more aggressive abuse than most people throw at it. Lucky for him, he has a DD Dodge Ram, so if he breaks, he just needs to tow it home. Do I recommend giving that axle the amount of inhumane treatment he has given it? If you want to have fun and really test the axles capabilities, have fun, other than that, No, he's gone far beyond the capabilities of that axle, and I think if he had a Limited slip, It would have been toast a long time ago.

I've been getting PM's fine lately, however, the email notifications stopped late last week, no reason as to why. I know it's enabled in my preferences, I checked it 5 times to make sure.

Even better, I took out all your busy work and made the entire list publicly available. All the Comanches in the US that there is, I'll add in wrong spellings, and Canada tomorrow. http://www.google.com/reader/shared/036 ... 6809901508 If the ad sounds good, click and see if any pictures are available! -

Rear steer hydraulics?
rockhardzj replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh, how much fun that would be. For one, many people are lost as to how to use rear steer to their advantage. Believe me, I've hopped in a rig, and level ground was difficult to navigate. Its a whole new level of feeling stupid. As for return to center, Check out the rear steer system on a newer Chevy/GMC with the quadra-steer or whatever they called it. I beleive there is a super heavy duty spring which the system has to fight to steer it, but once the flow stops, the spring pushes the ram back to center. I also beleive that the GM style rear steer concept used an electronically driven pump, and not engine powered. Something to do with too far for the fluid to travel, and the hoses would expand too much, loosing efficiency. At any rate, I'll check for a few pics around the net for ya and post em up, so you can get a better idea.
