Rocky Road - Comanche Lift Kit
mfpdm replied to ScottyDog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wow. I'm not sure what half of you are smoking and where the other half are getting your info from but I must say, a lot of it is just CRAP. Basic principles of the control arms are to keep it in positioned in the wheel well seeing that you no longer have the leaf spring to do it, but that is just part. The lower arms allow up and down travel of the axle. Where all this force absorbtion came from is beyond me. The uppers are for controlling braking and driving force. You no, if they were not there your axle would want to roll forward or backwards. And YES, you want to have your lower control arms as close to horizontal (which if you look at a stock jeep they are ) as possible. This improves ride, handling, and allows more flex (droop). Think of it this way, Your pushing a full wheelbarrow and keeping its handles low (horizontal with the ground) and you hit a bump. The wheel rolls over the bump without much trouble. Now, same situation except this time your handles are inclined and you hit the same bump. OH, what happened. The wheel barrow flipped over because the bump drove the wheel back instead of up. Same thing happens to the front axle. When you increase the angle on the control arms, the force is driving the axle back instead of up. Now the drop brackets help bring the angle back down to stock position (horizontal). Long arms achieve this as well by increasing the length of the arm resulting in a lower angle. Now, back to the OP question, I personally have dealt with RRO and will not again. I have the drop brackets and really like the design and concept, however the quality control is poor. I waited forever to get them and then they sent the wrong hardware. Called one day and they had not made them yet even though they claimed to have 82 of them in stock, and the next day they were shipped two days ago. They lied to me and then tried to make me out as the bad guy. Go look in my build thread "Wrenches Gone WILD" and you can see all the trouble I had with them. If I did it over again, I'd go with REs drop brackets and fab up my own braces. -
If that doesn't pan out for you, here is another good place to get used and new speakers and other things at really good prices. Best Buy Outlet store on ebay Look under the Car Electronics category. I got my 5 1/4 kappas from them for $34 shipped. They are constantly adding to thier inventory so you need to check it daily.

I had offered him $45 when he first listed them with a buy it now price of $85. He countered with $78. He then dropped the buy it now price down to $65 a few days later. I was patiently watching to see if he would drop it again until it got posted in this thread. I then offer $55 with free shipping which was really my $45 offer from before. Anyhow, I'm glad a Club member got it. :clapping: Now the fun part comes. Finding the other side. :D

The ones I used were the two ways with the tweeter on top of the woofer. They fit just fine but with the door panel on, the speaker grill just barely touched the tweeter. I modified the grill to give a little extra room but keep the stock look. I did a write up in the DIY section. Click Here I attached the crossover to the wiring harness in the door with a ziptie to get it up about mid door level.

Ssshhhh, I'm watching that. Who do you think the one offer is from. :brows:  See, now look what you did. So who on here got it? :D
-
Just went through this myself and after listening to a lot of different speakers, I chose the Infinitys in the stock size and location. I believe music should sound crisp and clean, not loud and deafning. I've got the 5 1/4 kappa series in the door and the 4 x 6 reference series in the b-pillars. Sound oh so good with just the stock radio and the pioneer 12 disc changer.

:agree: I figured I'd put them on if it goes to any Jeep/Car shows but other than that, I have a nice old set with a backup spare. I had a different idea which ya'll probably hate but I think it would be neat. Next MJ I find in the JY, I'll cut the rear of the bed off and have it painted, put the lights in and wire them up, and hang it on the wall above the bed. Ssshhhh, I'm watching that. Who do you think the one offer is from. :brows:

What's the best way to remove this?
mfpdm replied to fiatslug87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Those are one of the many dumb things they designed. If you do the punch and hammer, you may want to run a small drill bit through it so it does not knock a big chunck out the back side. I was thinking that there was a special tool that is designed for pulling them rolled pins. :dunno:  -
I figured it went along with my Wrenches Gone Wild theme :D They surface from time to time here and there. Just have to watch for them. Well, maybe just a little :nanner: Don't be. NOS taillights won't get the build back on the road. What, you don't see the crushed velvet they are sitting on. :D A sturdy box and lots of bubble wrap will be there home for now.
-
Well got this box today with one virgin in it the other Virgin came out of it's box in the garage and it was love at first sight. Finally made a match after about 18 months. Thanks to Wildman  , I now have a set of OEM NOS tail lights. These won't be DD's, only special occasions.

I thought maybe you had a AX-5 like mine. It will only go into 4 gears. :brows:

restricted oilflow to head.
mfpdm replied to philbert001's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ummm ... no. Oil pressure should be 13 psi minimum at idle, and 37 to 75 psi above 1600 RPM. That's per the factory service manual. Yeah I fixed it with the later post just forgot to go back and edit the earlier one. -

Now I wouldn't go that far. I do love my Mitchell repair manual on CD though. Was worth every penny. About $6 off ebay. EDIT: Here's the oil pressure per the above manual. -

If it was me and to prevent future headaches, I'd just put a new pump in there and be done with it. However, here is the specs and notes on it. Not sure what that pipe installer is. :dunno:  -

Here's a note from my repair manual. The pressure port is just above the filter where the sender is screwed in. Far as the pressure, I can't seem to find it but will post it when I do. -

And the plot thicken's. The dent shouldn't effect the sump but if the impact jared the pickup tube, it may have broken the seal to the pump, allowing the pump to suck air instead of oil. That would give you the low idle idiot light as the higher rpms pulls hard enough to get oil but is still not producing a lot of flow. -

I agree get a pressure gauge on it to see what you really have however it sounds like your oil pump is on it's last leg seeing how the higher rpms gives it enough pressure to keep the idiot light off. If the pressure is ok then maybe your push rods are clogged up or there is an obstruction in the oil pump restricting flow. If it were me, I'd start with cheapest and work my way up. 1 Hook up a pressure gauge to it and verify pressure. If good go to 2 and if bad go to 3, 2 Pull pushrods and check if they are clogged. If not, 3 Pull the pan and check/replace oil pump. I would have thrown check oil filter in there after check pressure but I'm assuming it is new since you replace the oil after the pan drop. -
I agree with ya execpt this part. Believe it or not, he was talking with Paul McCartney one day (somewhere around the Ebony and Ivory recording) and ask him what a good investment would be. Paul joking told him to buy up the rights to the Beatles songs. The rest well is history.

That's cool. I think I would have left some of the black accents on it though, but still really nice. I'd like to see some interior, under the hood, and suspension pics. The rear flairs gives me an idea of what my future dually MJ will look like.
-
Sweeeett. There's plenty of them in the JY. end :hijack: again.
-
That looks great. It's funny though, I thought that there was a white dot on your camera lens until I saw the other pics. And I really like that pull a part you have. Website with inventory so you don't waste your time going there to find nothing you need. Hope they migrate up this way. And while your hunting for JTs black switch panel, if you come across a black turn stalk with cruise, I'd make it worth your while.

Nice score on the gray interior parts. Seems like you have a great JY with great prices. Mine use to be that way until they started getting greedy and jack all their prices up. Did you manage to pull the seat belts to go along with the gray interior? Keep up the great work and keep the pic's a coming.

Couple of Medallions given to the factory workers on the day the Comanche rolled out.

Good eye. I tried to see if anything on the back firewall would tell but the only thing I can speculate is that the hood cowl gasket doesn't look to be the thicker one found in the 99. I guess we'll know when the email is answered.
