  1. Cam position sensor located in distributor. Will cause no spark.
  2. btw borla headers DON'T work with a mid '99 or newer intake manifold, unless you're good at massaging metal with a bit of heat.
  3. I don't understand phobias of animals. sure, everyone gets that knee-jurk reaction to nasty bugs. but I just don't comprehend the ones that freak out and run for their lives. you're a human being...they're not interested in hunting you, and if they hurt you, it's because YOU did something wrong.
  4. jeep dealerships can get them. they're not too expensive. they are called spring perches. you can make them out of 1/4 wall 2x2 steel as well.
  5. Be careful with the Pacer comments. I ain't as good as I once was but..................... and you gotta see me in the AM. opsled grumble grumble. young whippersnapper and whatnot. lol
  6. nope. used a nissan as well I think. in the DJ series plane pushers/pullers.
  7. You won't find much info anywhere on them anywhere. An obscure, odd little creature that even Renault seems to have forgotten about. They were widly used in both turboed and natural applications but most of them were overseas. They are nothing close to a rocket power wise but they will do a substantial amount of work for a long time if you know how to treat and maintain the animal. I wouldn't call them reliable for the average Joe but the one I have been running now all these years has never failed to wake up and take me where I need to go and has never failed to get me home. It has has had issues but has been kept together with showstrings and bailing wire and has never seen it's true needs attended to although it doesn't seem to care as long as I'm nice to it. 33 mpg back and forth to work with 4.10 gears and 225-75-15 tires is the reward I get (makes me wonder how many times the crank has been around in 252,+++ miles, more than most I would assume). If the head wasn't cracked and I could let it have more boost it would get 37-40 depending on the drive. Most would call it a POS but if I could buy a new one just like it I would in a heart beat. If you want to be different, it's just the ticket but unless you have enough knowledge to keep it going or have deep pockets and a second vehicle it won't work for you. As others have said many differences are involved that make a swap impossible without a complete donor vehicle. Someday (soon) JeepcoMJ will have this one to work his magic on and have himself one of Jeep's rarist birds. (Ok, birds may be a bit poetic. Ducks may be more appropriate.) opsled lol. thanks for posting, pops. let's emphasize the soon part and get something new figured out. I was thinking a pacer would be nice :rotf:
  8. lol okay, keep it in good shape though  lmfao. how about "make it nice...cause it's not" ah i aint ever heard what they sound like. when I first got mine I honestly thought it was a diesel. caused it sounded like one, very loud too. the mufflers off tho and the cat is still on. it sounds like a kubota diesel mini trac hoe. but, it has a tractor muffler, too...
  9. lol okay, keep it in good shape though  lmfao. how about "make it nice...cause it's not"
  10. I'm the oddball on the club that WANTS the diesel. but, that's also because the one I will get is the first comanche I've ever seen, and one of no more than 30 diesel mj's in the U.S.
  11. An old FC van running an amc 401 with an NV series 6 speed manual trans, converted to a wheeling camper on dana 60s and 38 inch tires.
  12. and you will need the 4 door door panels with the 2 door driver's side switch bezel...2 door panels are 9" longer than the mj ones...4 door ones are the same.
  13. That is so easy to say but very hard to do lol Brandon 17mpg worst with 35's, 24mpg best. not that hard. I'm a lead foot. it did have 4.10's, and a torquer cam to reduce the power band down below 2000.
  14. the fuel mileage comparison between a 4 cyl and a 4.0 is pretty much the same. there's not much difference...all you have to do is drive the 4.0 nicely.
  15. the perches are what the springs sit on. they're welded on. you have an ax5 5 speed trans. you will need a new one for it. get one from a '93 or newer jeep 4 cyl so that you have an external slave cylinder. the trans is 21 spline, so you'll want an np242 from an '87-90 4.0/auto cherokee. but you will then NEED a '93 or newer ax5, as the ax5 from that year on uses a short input...and all aw4's are short input. that, or you can put an ax15 5 speed in from behind a '90 or newer jeep (any model), and use an early 90's dodge dakota ax15 bellhousing. this gives you a better trans for towing with.
  16. the dana 35 rear axle is junk. get a d44. d30 front is good, match it to the rear gears. parts for these things are direct swap from an xj, from the front seats forward. rear axle needs perches changed between them. you will need a new transmission for the 4x4 conversion as they are 4x4 and 2x4 specific.
  17. neat little motor. decent power for what it is...but still less than a 4.0. NOT reliable. NOT an offroad motor. this is something for fuel miser. my dad is DDing a dying '86 2.1l mj diesel. rusty, cracked head, can't get boost above 5psi. parts are REALLY HARD to come by. I have a complete new motor for it when I restore it. he has 250xxx miles on it, it's cost him under $2000 to maintain since he bought it 12 years ago for $200. that includes fixing it. BUT...that's because he's learned how to rebuild the vacuum pumps and starters (starters die once per year and take 3.5 hours to replace). the transmissions (5 speed are ax5) are 2.1l specific as well. good luck finding them...the input shafts are different.
  18. Good to know,I wasn't sure if the shafts interchanged. Yup, however, I have heard from several sources that the gear tooth pitch changed around 96 for some reason, so the older and newer shafts aren't swappable. there are several pitch changes. I don't know the exact years, but you can still swap the planetary assembly and ring in between any years.
  19. comanches had command-trac (part time) xj's had command-trac and selec-trac (full time) the difference is either the part time np231 tcase or the full time np242 tcase. the np242 has all the selections that the part time has, plus full time.
  20. pulled the tan dash out of it, going to put the OEM black and agate interior that I have into it. woohoo....
  21. yep. it's a 1990 running a very low miles reman 4.0 from an '89, with a 222xxx mile ba10/5 that had been "refreshed" in it. d30/d35, 4x4, np231, 4wd all works, good brakes (new when I sold it a few months ago) all around. but it's not worth anywhere near what he's asking for it. bench interior, split rear, cruise, a/c, $#!&ty rubber floor (I took the nice one out) that's all tore up with no insulation between it and the floor. but I did do a somewhat decent job replacing the floor...
  22. lol...again, same day as mine!
  23. I sold one recently for $350 w/o drums, but with brand new limited slip and wheel bearings, and seals all around. the guy who bought it was happier than a pig in sh*t.
  24. http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/2148345350.html up on craigslist again. could be knocked down around $1000 I'd think...he bought it from me for less than that.
