turn down the wire speed a tiny bit, or speed up moving your hand a bit. it's pooling up a bit more than necessary for a single pass weld. aside from that, and a couple small gaps where you stopped then continued, it looks very good.

ah. pics of the family MJ's... left to right. brother's '88 4.0/ax15 converted to 4x4 on 31's with 3" lift. lwb my first comanche...the 3800. 86 with a buick 3800, converted to 4x4, 3" 31's. lwb Dad's comanche...86 2.1l factory turbo diesel, ax5, metric ton, lwb, etc. I had to have been around 19 when I took that pic...

You've owned 29 in seven years? Wow. What did you do with them all? Wisconsin rust already had it's say. I salvaged all comanche specific parts and scrapped the rest. Probably scrapped just over half of them.

if he put the '93 flywheel in, it won't run. ask him what he did for a input shaft bearing, since the '93 trans has a .750 thick tip on the input, and the renix is much smaller. I'm wondering if it's not clutch issues from a lack of even having an input bearing (a.k.a. pilot bearing)

Dad got one when I was 8 or 9, my first one was in 2004 when I was 17, I've owned around 29 since then but currently am down to 1

moving. no time. thinned herd...down to only having my 86 (3800), Joe (beaterjeep's) jeep, and my '99xj. any non mj specific parts that aren't given away by this weekend will be in the dumpster next weekend...don't want to deal with craigslist, the "well that's a bit of a high price", or "that's so cheap...what's wrong with it" stuff is a waste of time. don't worry, any mj stuff I wasn't keeping has gone to good homes. anything else is just trash. -

AW4 with 4:10's too big for a daily driver?
JeepcoMJ replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
99 xj...built 4.0. cam's sweet spot is 1900-ish. still get my best mileage @ 1500rpm, with 235's, and 3.07 gears. 3.55's, same setup, got less mpg. average tank (mixed driving, under 60mph) gives me 20.8 mpg. highway, I stay below 70. anything over that and I'm getting under 20mpg. and 1st gear still is pretty short. wish I had another gear to run it up to. -
Making lower control arms.
JeepcoMJ replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
material costs money. time costs money. add it all up at a reasonable hourly rate, with reasonable supplies cost (i.e. welding gas, wire, cutting wheels, torch gas/tips, plasma cutter tips, welding tips, as well as electric), and I bet you spent more than a set of control arms cost. fabrication isn't cheap. -

unsafe, and...I'm pretty confused here. how much time and $$$ did you spend making those? time is money. period. and used aftermarket LCA's are cheap. -
ouch. i'm glad they're both OK. plus side...insurance pay out (from the looks of it she had to have been t-boned...so unless she didn't have the right of way to cross, you should be good), and a nice parts cherokee.

scored a heck of a deal (parts for my 88-99 truck)
JeepcoMJ replied to 99Manche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
did you get the actual engine/trans harness as well? not the engine bay harness...the one ON the engine. if so, you're all set. -

JeepcoMJ replied to 99Manche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
not even 1/4 of the wiring is there. you're missing all of the engine sensors, the dash mounts are not there, you don't have the steering column or linkage, or the heater box. good deal, though. the trans is worth twice what you paid. -
3 Point Towing Mirror... Opinions?
JeepcoMJ replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
they suck balls in the stock location. it needs to be located farther forward on the door to be worthwhile. -

Toshiba's are like the girl you pick up at the bar....don't ask questions, but take every precaution you can. Never know what you might get I've never seen a dell outright fail. I have seen toshiba fail completely with no hopes for repair, and high parts cost. I'd feel it out and probably return it. -
Can Comanches be reliable daily drivers?
JeepcoMJ replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't know where you're getting any tech about AW4's not being reliable. the Aw4 is easily the most reliable transmission I have ever had in any vehicle. any failure in it is directly correlated to improper/lack of maintenance. I've owned well over 40 jeeps, and that's being generous. I have thrown aw4's in the scrap pile simply because they hardly ever fail, and I have a hard time selling them for anything worth my while...they usually end up sitting around a LONG time before I sell them, because the demand for them is so little. as far as reliability, I've daily driven one from the age of 17 to the age of 22....5 good years on it. the other one that I kept was DD'd on and off for several years, the only down time on it being because I had "upgrades" to do to it...it never failed on me, save when I beat it hard enough to bend the front axle, or put the trans computer in bypass mode doing too many high rpm forward reverse drops. -
Hold off before doing anything. I'll do a write up for you.

i've never had issues with the newer sealed output shafts and "no extra support". actually, I find that to be a fairly moot point. just remember this....it's a sealed output...you can blow your rear ujoints on your driveshaft, remove it, and drive home in 4wd without losing fluid.
