Project Utility Comanche. The Saga Continues
JeepcoMJ replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Thanks to Rob and Aaron, I am convinced hanneman bedsides and front fenders are the easiest option. I am dropping a 3.5" lift with custom long arms, 32x11.50 ats, c8.25 rear with 3.73 and discs from a KJ (still on leafs, sorry...will not be linking the rear), 3.73 front from a zj (accept it, I'm ok with the low pinion as I have no intent to wheel much, if any). This is a full 97+ swap. It is getting 02 KJ tan heated leather to match the seats. The floors and rockers need minor attention. It's getting a meyer C6.5 plow with e61H pump, and a removable SnowEx salter in the bed. This is the new utility rig, and will represent my business. May do light wheeling, but unlikely. Don't plan wheeling something nice. Paint code will be PE5 (Salsa Red Pearl) to match the KJ. -
Project Utility Comanche. The Saga Continues

Well, saturday was set to be a good day. Rob came up so we could pay some attention to his MJ trailer build, figure out the axle, and whatnot. We decided on a trailer axle, 3500#, custom built for the same cost as modifying a purchased one to fit. Once we reached that conclusion, it was time to come up with something else to do. I recalled that there was a junkyard by me that the old man who owned it had died, his daughter inherited, and was only open saturdays to meet state law of 1 day a week. We got there just in time...they are scrapping EVERYTHING. There is only one MJ in the yard, which I will be going back to grab parts from. Some things in the yard haven't moved in 40+ years. I'm sure Rob will share pics at some point, but he has been busy with the bad luck on the way home with the accident. After the yard, we took a hike to look at my old MJ. I have bought it back. It will be a project. Here it is as it sits currently. -
Love auto correct. Still trying to get used to this touch screen stuff. I meant *from* So, if I may, should I start a drive?
-
Jim, I seriously want to come out there with some cash to buy an MJ for you. Gonna turn me down if I show up? Lol

In WI, if the insurance company never assumes possession of the vehicle or title, the title never becomes a "salvage" title.

My liberty has one in it, 3 years old. My brothers liberty has one, 7 years old. His comanche has one that finally died, it's 10 years old. My test stand for hydraulics has two, I don't have to charge them for weeks. I have had a couple duds like anyone else, but they stand behind their product. Have even bought used ones that were junk for cheap, and gotten them to warranty exchange them with no complaints

Project "Eliminator"
JeepcoMJ replied to 89eliminator's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
It will only work with whomever is set to be able to see it. I can see it, marcel can see it, that means his content is limited to "friends of friends", or sw86 you may need to be signed I to facebook to see. Nice climb btw. -
Sounds reasonable so far

1988 Jeep Comanche Aka The Penny Sniffer ,pic Heavy
JeepcoMJ replied to Zebvance's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Either the pinion isn't in far enough, or it's a hair off on shimming. The center of the gear lash is not set at the center of the ring...it's on the outside. Adjusting, you can get more contact and thus a better wear pattern. -

Why the ironman shackles? The rear is obviously way higher with what's in it In the pics on this page. And why the pitman drop? Unless you drop the trackbar to match, you will have bump steer. -
the list of individuals that have managed to break an 8.8 shaft is very small indeed. :D Above and beyond that, the 8.8 if equipped with discs has every advantage that a non c clip does. The discs function. As secondary retainers at low speeds.

Wouldn't matter...he doesn't want to drive that rare. 86 Renault in this slushy mess
-
His jeep is non abs, so brakes did what required

Not a bad idea. I imagine the next project is that, new rock rails, and the fullsize front axle? -

What mods to the kj backing plates were necessary in order to install on your 44? Xjrev is looking, check his thread in tech. We know a spacer is necessary, but I seem to recall you saying that the backing plates/caliper brackets bolted right on. I'd like to help get him set up since I have several spare sets of kj discs. Thanks -

Looks about time time to dovetail, wade. Glad to see it was a fun trip, and you had no mech. Failure. -
MJ roof is just over an inch taller than xj, so no.

Motor and labor to install are under $1000. Easiest swap ever. If body is clean, jeep is worth more than $500. You cannot find nice ones up here anymore

Rear Disc Brake Conversion D44
JeepcoMJ replied to xjrev10's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So they are the same width. That was another question of mine! Thanks Pat for the detailed post. I know I looked into the KJ stuff a few years ago but yes like you said, no yards had Libertys. The reason I like the idea of new parts is stuff rusts so fast up here so most brake stuff sitting in the dirt is junk. I have a complete set of KJ discs sitting here right now. They're clean, but I always replace pads, rotors, brake shoes. Also have the e brake cable ends...they could be modified to accept MJ ends -
I would pay $2k for an unmolested, rust free body.
-
Under 1k unless the body is mint, cherry, with mint interior, and almost no other flaws or defects. If it has any dents or rust, immediately half price.
