  1. ^ has constructive things to say, and does, when need be...though his post count has sadly not increased significantly for quite some time, because there's not much asked that hasn't been asked before.
  2. ^ should post less unless he has something to add to the group.
  3. ^^^cannot be contested on his analysis
  4. ^is correct, at least about general maturity
  5. ok, then you still have the one that came out of it. the flexplates crack when the bellhousing moves, they crack 360 degrees around the crankshaft where it bolts down, so the way to figure out if it's cracked is to remove the inspection cover, start it, and have someone tap the gas...you'll see if it' moves seperate from the crank at all.
  6. correy, LKQ will likely throw it in with the lot of everything else I'm buying and I confirmed that the on/off controls are on left side (thumb operated) and the set/acc/coast buttons are on the right side. the wiring and everything should be all right there...after 97 any option is literally bolt-in.
  7. the most likely damage is that the flexplate is cracked. if it is, you cover shipping and I'll get a proper renix one down to you...though I do think you have one from the motor you got from zach
  8. the cruise system on a '99 xj is just like it was on your blue truck when I hooked it in. it's plug and play...get the motor/servo, with the vacuum line for it, and get the controls. IIRC the controls are thumb controls on the steering wheel. I'll grab you a conversion for it this coming weekend @ LKQ. it's an easier setup.
  9. well, we've all proven that your idea of how things look is often tragically skewed, so we can throw that one out of the window. the truck is not less stable with narrow tires. it's a good idea to get tires with less backspacing so that the rims/tires stick out and widen the wheelbase.
  10. no offense but "looks" are not what makes something functional. you obviously have no real comprehension on the use of narrower and taller tires. they are usually termed "cookie cutters" and they dig straight down to the base of whatever you're crawling through. end result of them is that the tires don't "float" like wider tires do. this reduces chances of hydroplaning, increases grip in the snow (as long as it's not too deep to dig down to the ground under it) and they are actually safer for winter driving because they don't float. they suck for mudding though....the point there is to float, which is why wider tires are better.
  11. looks decent, but it needs to tie into the cab up top to remain structural. it should also have through bars going through the cab to add rigidity. and the tubes are too far from the body. *shrug* basically, it just looks like a cool mall crawler...not like it's useable.
  12. the fey bumper is junk...several dents in it. I'll be picking up the whole back of the cab and giving it to a friend for a cheromanche project
  13. are you talking about the front inner fender?
  14. no problem...thanks for covering fuel costs. saved a ton of time. it was a good day. and yes, Brent ($500mj) I will be going back to grab the 10 slot grille off of it for you.
  15. i don't. I want a sunroof...I miss my convertible
  16. well, I've got her home. first step is to verify that she runs...put the bellhousing on with the CPS, and a battery, and fire her up.
  17. that *might* be true. IIRC 89/90 are interchangeable, and I know 87 is not interchangeable with 89/90, but I don't know about 88.
  18. the actual term that it would most likely use is a "torsion dampener". My dad and I use a different type of these on snowmobiles when we bore and port the motors, to reduce the vibration along the chassis.
  19. you have less than 100hp to the rear wheels to begin with...it's not a rocket, downshifting will be necessary on hills, and it's not exactly suited to towing a trailer much bigger than a single axle motorcycle trailer...and that's pushing it in size IMHO for that 4 banger if you're doing long hauls. -Pat
  20. to take that back to stock set gear ratio you will need 32 or 33 inch tires, unless you have a built motor that can withstand the RPM's. IIRC hornbrod is running 4.10 in his with 31" tires, but he's got a nice setup for that.
  21. that would be an optical illusion.
  22. just stay away from the renault 2.1 turbo, unless you like anal retentive maintenance...
  23. k. the rear end in the '90 may have too deep of gears for a 5 speed on stock size tires....4 cyl/auto should be 4.10 or 4.56 but may still be just 3.73's
  24. yep, straight across. but the 90 can't be a 2.8...that's the v6 from 86. it is a 2.5. but yes, pretty much direct swap. you will need the dash harness, engine harness, cooling system, all electrical components, fuel pump/sending unit, engine, trans, and driveshaft(s) from the 4.0. I recommend doing a 4.0 swap while you're in there. is the '90 already 4x4?
