  1. interesting...but don't even make an attempt to go play in water...
  2. is it the top rail in the pics? I shot you a pm...there's several parts trannies in storage totes in my garage from when I was blowing these things left and right.
  3. if it's a 4 cyl 2.5 comanche, it's throttle body injection...not carbeurated. sounds like a leaking injector.
  4. I don't think he has enough volume in those corners to justify making them into air tanks...
  5. now u need rear quarter protection
  6. according to Urban dictionary: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dail it does not lie. haha. and that's about what this thread is...I don't have room or time for this truck now (losing shop privelages when I move out this week), so I just agreed to sell it to a friend today.
  7. pass. bedside looks like its missing...
  8. .... are you missing a bedside in one of those pics?
  9. I disagree 100%. I'd take a 1,000 dollar investment over a $125 investment any day. if he had left it alone and hadn't cut out the wheel wells, that would be a different story...but he created just that much more work for me to do. oh well *shrug* going to be MPFI 4 cyl, all '96 parts...at least that's the plan at the moment. if I could get a complete '97 conversion for it, I would opt for that route...
  10. i appreciate you pointing out the one flaw that has been bugging me ever since i cut them, jerk. :P so get out the thin wheel and trim them properly!
  11. My 86 has the serpentine belt. I think I'm goint to pull the head first. It's either that or list it in the classifieds. I've really lost interest in it and I think it could be more useful to someone else. Since it's having problems it will probably get parted, which was what it was originally bought for. I'm looking for a 2dr XJ for a future mod but need a dependable DD for the son to get back and forth to school until I get the 88 on the road. We'll see how it goes in the next couple of days. pm me please and let me know of a price you have in mind for it. I would like an 86 body.
  12. correction on my previous post...there is no oil filter adapter. however, the threads for the oil filter are different.
  13. the oil filters are different between 86 and 88. did this exact swap on an xj. I would use all of the accessories from the '88 and literally bolt the motor in, and leave the oil filter adapter alone. then you get serpentine rather than v belts. you could swap the oil filter adapter if you felt like it, but if you're going to have to order a serpentine for an '88 it's not much harder to remember to use an '88 oil filter. the only thing I'd keep from the '86 would be the throttle body and sensors. no issues with CPS...just use the '86 flywheel to be sure.
  14. your fenders aren't trimmed quite level...
  15. actually, I'd say I got the short end of the stick. he literally stole my desktop computer when he moved out...that's $1000+ in value. this MJ I would not pay a dime more than we paid for it 3 years ago...and I found it in the first place or he wouldn't have it. but, to cut my losses, I let him get away with this. I'm also making him give me his brand new RC adjustable control arms...he doesn't have anything to put them in anymore.
  16. lol guys. I may not need another project, but I think I can have this one done fairly quickly. at least looking decent but still needing a bed. Rob, while you have a valid point that I have all the 4 cyl stuff...I also have all the 4.0 stuff, too. and the 4.0 stuff is just sitting there...doing nothing...already bolted together and pretty much ready to go. plus, I don't have to do a crossover harness to make it work. and will...you're accurate
  17. my brother moved, took my desktop, and has nowhere to put his "project jeep"...so I gave him the desktop (1000 bucks worth of stuff) for his '89 swb 4 cyl MJ. I'm pulling everything out of it, redoing the floors, rockers, cab corners. replacing the bed and front fenders, engine, trans, axles, and doing a 4x4 swap at the same time. my options are to use the complete 4.0 swap I have sitting here...renix. or to use the complete '96 swap I have sitting in a '96 xj I got from rob...4 cyl multiport. either way, it goes to 4wd. the goal is to build a daily driver. my biggest concern is to replace the floors, hopefully this weekend. once those are done, I can do everything else in my non-heated, no power garage that I'm renting. too many projects in my dad's shop right now. anyways, here's pics of it right now Image Not Found Image Not Found my bro was building a wheeler, and put the exhaust up out the side of the bed to reduce issues when submerged... Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found when we picked it up 2.5 years ago for $125...then drove it home Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found the floors and trans hump are shot. we cut them out already, so it's just a bit of wire brushing and shaping then welding in new ones and sealing it up. gonna work on this one over the next few months
  18. mine IS better..... eagle, hornbrod...it's very easy to see what "sry" and "ppl" mean. complaining about abbreviation is a bit over the top.
  19. I need a driver's side bedside...badly. as far as it being too valuable to use...nope, it's not. it was made to be used not to sit on the wall.
  20. sorry, I'm in the middle of moving out, getting a motor finished, doing some maintenance on the wheeler, helping fix a friend's jeep, working on this truck, and figuring out what to do when I lose shop privelages to work on things in my dad's shop (my mom doesn't want any more projects)
  21. lol, it's definitely something to drool over. I know I passed on your '86 but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. the 3800 met the requirements all around...and yours is the only '86 around for a decent price that I could have used. now it's up to jpdocdave. the DD 4 cyl is steve's tan MJ...he stole my $1000 desktop computer when he moved out, and I told him that's not OK...so he gave me the tan MJ. it needs floors, bed, fenders, rockers, cab corners, a drivetrain swap, and 410 axles....oh well. I passed on the TJ because I already have everuthing but a box to fix this thing up.
  22. what mvusse said. they suck to maintain, but it's too rare to scrap out. as far as finding another MJ to buiild off of....I have to have an '86 to build the diesel off of. thins down the numbers, plus it needs to be as rust free as possible...also thinning down my options. the 3800 fits both of those bills. this will take a long time...probably won't have an update for several months, as I'm now going to be building a DD 4 cyl mpfi mj as well..
  23. thanks to even build one, you're going to have to swap every single little mechanical or electrical part just to make it work...not even the transmission is directly interchangeable with anything else. you're better off going with a cummins 4bt swap over a renault...the renault's are a haphazard motor to begin with, and really not something you should daily drive unless you have a good amount of diesel experience, and either buy special tools for timing and whatnot, or can manage to make them.
  24. I was thinking early 90's dakota.
  25. it's one of 23 that I have found in the states, so yes, very rare. I didn't know that when we started out...but the first MJ I ever drove just so happened to be one of the rarest out there lol. as far as turbo, I have no interest in modifying this. they're hard enough to keep together as-is...they require very, very meticulous maintenance to keep them going w/o issues. I like the gauge cluster as well...because it's original.
