  1. you need to combine the xj seat bases with the mj ones to make mj bucket seat bases. so far as the valve cover goes, get one from a '91+ 4 cyl jeep. they are aluminum
  2. it's not sound but quality and better exhaust output that we go for with headers. it allows more outgoing flow, which helps economy. it also eliminates the cracking issues that the factory ones have.
  3. he can use grade 8 with that bumper. grade 5 is just for tow hooks...he has clevis.
  4. I have everything for a proper matching light tan interior now, with nice factory rubber floor mat. dying the limited leather seats tan tomorrow, painting the center console, and installing the light tan trim and headliner after I clean up the floors. can't wait..it'll be nice to have it all matching :D
  5. I highly advise the more expensive M.O.R.E. motor mounts. they're AWESOME, and it's very convenient to go order a $3 LCA bushing to replace the bad bushing with if it goes bad (big if...360 degrees of rubber around the center sleeve means less torsion and longer lasting). I have a set on mine, and got a set for my friend's comanche that I'm building. as far as headers go, Wade bought a stainless "factory" style exhaust manifold for his '89 off of ebay. less than $150, direct bolt-in, and it has some nice "flex" sections that keep it from vibrating and cracking in the typical spot.... here's a new OEM style... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EXHAUST- ... ccessories here's a pace setter that would work for you http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pacesett ... ccessories I can't find the one wade has, but I'm sure you could talk to him and figure stuff out. IDK tho.
  6. if he twisted off the pinion yoke, the rear gears are JUNK. front gears are probably decent, but you need the carrier as well. I had jpdocdave swap my front d30 gears into an empty housing when I bent my d30 front....I didn't have another 4.10 set. the wear pattern is PERFECT...but he has 2500 in tools just for doing gears, and knows his crap. Rule of thumb....buy a new install kit for them, but get ALL of the old bearings and shims, as well as carrier...even if you have to pay for a carrier for him to use with his upgraded gearset. This will give the installer the most knowledge of how the gears were set up as possible...meaning setup will be easy. I'm told it's easier to set up gears with the axle in the vehicle, because the axle can't move when torque is applied. Dave did mine out of the truck, but would have preferred it in the truck. I used my old bearings, but he had to swap a good carrier bearing from my 3.07 carrier that came out of the "new" axle...quite a chore I'm told, as even with the proper bearing seperator/puller, they don't typically come off in good shape. -Pat
  7. my 87 lifted MJ with brand new H.O., .030 bore, comp. cam, borla header, 2001 intake, 62mm TB, mustang injectors, K&N filter, aw4 auto, 4.10 gears, and 33's will net me between 17mpg and 22mpg depending on how I'm driving and if I'm on the interstate or not. with the 35's on it, I get a max of 16mpg usually around 14.7mpg. my 86 (when it was running/driving) got me between 26mpg and 32mpg...but i put a '96 camaro 3800 v6 in it. my 86 diesel gets between 28mpg and 36mpg, depending on how/where I'm driving it.
  8. yes. if you get one from an automatic equipped jeep, you'll need to tie the ignition lockout part on the column up/remove it somehow so that the key will start it instead of being locked up. but, it's pretty easy
  9. no vid. everyone else was ahead of me.

green is going to be very hard to find. there were not many made.
  11. mine is for sale on another forum. IIRC you saw it @ the badlands in '08.
  12. proof that they're not... and I wasn't trying too hard.
  13. yeah. bit by bit
  14. Actually, the GM 3.8L (3800) is a 90 degree V6 and its at least as legendary as the 4.0L I6s. Pushrods with cast iron block and heads. Great motor, until they tried using thermoplastic intake manifolds on the Series II and had some issues with warpage in the early-mid 2000s. They did go back to aluminum on the latest Series III. Supercharged variants could be modded for serious power. IIRC, there are Grand Prix's running 10s in the quarter mile. Impressive, especially with FWD. GM Pushrod 60 degree V6 = 2.8L (early Comanche), 3.1L, 3.4L and more recently 3.5L and 3.9L with aluminum heads. It would be cool to see a 3800 Supercharged Comanche actually, it's a 90 degree block, with a 60 degree bolt pattern. you're talking to a guy who put one in his 86 comanche to replace the crappy 2.8....
  15. moved the '89 to the garage, added some fold-down steps to the '87's rear bumper, shuffled the 3800 around a bit, put a tilt column and wiper delay in the diesel, and put an AGR steering box in the '87
  16. one of them works better when it's standing on a corner. the other one typically never gets off it's back.
  17. I'm using photobucket. those pics are from my ax5 rebuild...I think the first time, about 2 years ago now. I cannot upload to photobucket using firefox (does exactly what yours does)...it's the only thing I use internet explorer for. I sent you an email back jim. We'll get you one of those sooner than l8r...I can't send one til I get paid on friday, unless someone buys my bumper in the next day or so (just put security deposit down on a house that I'll be renting) -Pat
  18. I know. I tried to give away the two dead 3.8 V6's I have here...everyone in tarnation called about them because they were free. However, they were looking for either the turbo 3.8's or the 3800's....why I would give either of those away free, I don't know. lol, I need a crankshaft for a '96 3800 (naturally aspirated)
  19. i confused myself. typically, i hear the "3800, 3900, etc." motors referenced as 90's or newer, while the 3.8, 4.1, etc. are older. not that the facts are any different about how many cubic centimeters are in them anyways.
  20. don't understand why it wouldn't be a problem, unless you somehow can adapt a gm 60 degree bellhousing to that trans.
  21. My last one was a 79 Monza Spyder engine....bellhousing matching to the sm420 won't be an issue. ?
  22. buick 3.8's and 3.9's use the gm 60 degree bolt pattern from early 90's on up...rather than the classic buick bolt pattern from eariler.
  23. it would take almost zero effort to get water up there. I bet I could smoke a 4.0 in a matter of a second or two with that setup...with just one bad rain storm, a bit of stupid driving, maybe a ditch that's full of water... you get where I'm going at...a simple drizzle is unlikely to effect it, but then again you also need to take into account the car in front of you in the rain will be throwing up water...and most cars throw it just about right in the area of that lower valance.
  24. never heard of it...and I'm a huge fan of buick motors.
  25. thanks for paintin that pic correy.....good idea. good thing one of us remembered to take pics...:P of course, you didn't ever develop the habit of blowing them up...
