even with 33's, I need to drop to 4.5" to make that work and look ok...and I'm not giving up my 11" travel shocks, which means fabrication.

rob, wade, I want to wheel this summer. the plans for the 87 are some pretty hardcore fab, that I don't have time or tools for right now. it will be a slow buildup. I am SICK of having that thing break on me every time I drive it. I know I drive like a jackass, but I don't care...I built it so that I could. then I went and put 35's on it and now it can't handle it. I just can't deal with all the constant "oh crap now what am I gonna do" stuff, which is why I have the 90 eliminator as a DD, plus a company van as my "weekend backup". the xj would be a two or 3 weekend fix, I have a complete 4.5" front lift, I have a front axle, and gears for a rear axle to match the front. I have 31" tires, and I have a spare '99 driver's fender, bumper, and header. the only thing I don't have for it are rear springs. minimal investment, added to the fact that it already has some dents, results in low-cost beater weekend wheeler that I don't care about, and won't invest more money in. I would wheel it until the end of summer, when the 87's body and fab work is done, then strip it and get what I want out of it for parts. Don, thanks. I agree with you 100%, and have been living by those rules for quite awhile now. -Pat

it would only be good to mainstream MJ's for us to SELL our mj's. that said, they're already somewhat valuable in good shape, so I'm good with not many people knowing.
-
only 2000-2001. this is an external ax15. again, I'm not parting it to sell things...the only thing that *may* get sold is the motor, rear doors, and xj-specific interior, because I have a built 4.0, or it would go in the 3800.
-
lol...the rear stuff would be available, but you know me well enough to know that I have a use for just about every part on that jeep. not alot of parts will be for sale off of it if I do part it out.
-
Thanks. I haven't bought it yet...that's another part that's up in the air. I don't want to spend much right now, but I know it's a deal. I already have a driver, so I'm good on that. it's just convenient that this thing is already dented a little bit...so that I don't have to give a crap about damaging the body.
-
I don't want that on a TV show....the last thing I think we need is people finding out that these things are rare. I wouldn't have had nearly as many MJ's as I have if people knew much about them. case and point...I bought an 86 yesterday for $50. the tail lights are mint, and worth 5 times what I paid for it. sort of a nice feeling.

just over a year ago, I found this 98 xj in town...all smashed up, the owner wanted $1300 for it. I said no way, call me back when you're more realistic. well, he called back this past friday and wanted $600. I said maybe, but I'd have to look closer...called back and we've agreed on $450. it's a 98 4.0 5 speed (external slave) np231 (sealed output) 29 spline 8.25, 4x4, 3.07's. all power, cruise, tilt, air only thing it doesn't have is heated seats. 1000 miles ago it got a new radiator, h20 pump, radiator hoses, heater hoses, and thermostat. it runs GREAT and drives good considering the bent front axle. it was hit pretty hard up front. the bumper is pushed 1.5" to the passenger side. the top and bottom of the frame rails are square, and measurements show they're in the proper spots. the sides, however, of the rail on the drivers side, are rippled. the steering box is tilted toward the driver's side by around 15 degrees. looking at it, the lower bolt holes got divoted in on the frame rail, but the top bolt hole for the steering box is still in the proper location. I think I can straighten it with a winch and a hammer to tap and relieve stress to realign the molecules. then perhaps reinforce it with a inner and outer frame plate. the front axle is bent, too...but I'm not going to cry about that. it also got hit in the rear left quarter at some point, and there are a couple ripples where the rear liftgate mounts to the roof, and one on each side in front of the rear side windows. so it's not a "restoration" type jeep...it would be a beater. the body is, luckily, still square. all of the doors seal and close. I'll post the pics below, but basically I'm wondering if you would strip and scrap it, or if you would toss the 4.5" lift I have laying around, with the 3.73 axles I have in it, 31's, and beat on it. my wheeling truck is getting stripped and rebuilt this summer, so I won't have a wheeling rig unless I do this.

89eliminator's 92 Eliminator
JeepcoMJ replied to 89eliminator's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I have 2" spacers... -
SOA or not ? Your opinions ...
JeepcoMJ replied to DJM/78's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you ONLY need a drop pitman arm if you replace the frame-side trackbar bracket with a bracket that drops the upper end of the trackbar down. so, if your trackbar bracket drops the trackbar by 1", you would use a 1" drop pitman arm -

you should be able to put in 5-6" coils or add a 2" puck on to the 3.5" coils and everything else should still work. nope. he'll still need control arms or long arms for that height, a new trackbar, and sway bar links/extensions. -

:huh???: soa gives you 5-6" lift out back. other downside is axle wrap, that would be the only drawback. i haven't heard of many people using antiwrap devises either on these, ladder bar etc.... i'm considering soa in the future, i'm sure thats still an issue on an mj, anyone got any input on that? Yeah the smallest spring set up I found was 1.5" for SOA . I guess I'll have to wait on the 5.5 " lift .... :( there's no setup for SOA spring lift at 1.5". there are 1.5" lift blocks, that work with a vehicle that came STOCK with SOA, and I'm sure AAL's will net 1.5" lift, but they'll sag. none of that works on our comanches. they're a completely different animal. -

my anti-wrap device is an 8" long spring perch. -

yea...soa will lift it too high to work with 3.5" front. -
86 2,8L long box comanche X
JeepcoMJ replied to wannabeMJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
shortening the wheelbase is very difficult compared to shortening the bed. you can cut around a foot out of the back of the bed, though. a 4.0 swap requires a new hood, new front crossmember, new header/radiator supports, and maybe a little bit of massaging on the firewall. a 4.3 is just a GHEY option. to each his own, but if you're going to put a 90 degree block in it, you may as well put a 350 in it since the mounts are all the same anyways. -
color match it, put the xj limited bumper caps on it.

:shake: what? they don't teach it in our schools, and if they did it was a brief mention. and please don't disrespect the respect I have for those defending us.

Considering that Canada has been the butt of ALOT of jokes in the past (eh), you had to KNOW that there would be at least one joke, albeit tasteless, made in that thread. It's not a big deal...the only reason that it is a big deal is that we have two ex-military moderators who are fairly anal about a great many things, one of which is the respect given by civilians to those who have served. They seem to forget, however, that they fought for freedom...the right to choose, and the right to develop your own opinion, be it negative or positive, towards military groups and much, much more. While it's disrespectful to post jokes like such in a thread honouring those who served, the topic at hand is morbid enough that there does need to be something to lighten the mood. It's ironic, though, that some of the most vulgar people on earth are military types. Off the top of my head, I can list 3 marines, and from the looks of it, the rest of their platoon, as being downright dirty-spoken perverted guys who would kill you just for looking at them funny. Ironic how those types turn out to be the more influential and least flexible people around, isn't it? It really is sad that the last world war veteran in canada died. I applaud him for the fight for life, and the amount of heart he put in to serving not only his country, but the world as a whole, for a better cause.

I'm with don on this. this is a waste of space on the forum. it's a locker. hence, it is designed to lock. this is to protect your property from theft and/or vandalism. if we didn't have locks with combinations on our lockers when I was in high school, EVERYTHING in the locker would have been stolen. heck, even without...stuff was still stolen. sounds like a majority of your class should probably get a swift kick in the arse, and a crash course in "common sense 101" the rule was put in place as an attempt to avoid said arse-kicking, and said crash-course. looks like that didn't work, time for full on assault as far as your school's faculty is concerned.
-
While it's a shame he died, I also was unaware of any military activity by canada during any of the world wars. R.I.P. to the brave souls who have served and died for all of us.

ugh. tiger woods matters just about as much as barry obama thinks he matters.

Stock MJ with Dana 44?
JeepcoMJ replied to M1A1TankerTom's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
But it doesn't always have it with those packages, mine has the tow package and the Off Road package, and came with the Up Country package, and it still had a 35. This has been leading me to believe the 44 was swapped out of it, especially since the PO built and wheeled XJ's and the MJ was just his DD. sure hope you're talking about an xj with that up country package...as that was xj only, from 91 on up. anyways, I've had 3.07, 3.55, and 4.10 factory gears. the rear end in my wheeling jeep has the 4.10's in it. that truck was a 1987 4.0/auto/2wd shortbed with no tow package, not metric tonne, and it had 3.54 geared dana 44 in the back. my 1989 that I sold to TNT on the club here, was a 4.0/5 speed/4x4 with higher rate (equivelant of metric tonne, but not factory) rear springs, factory dana 44 with 3.07's. don't know what engine/trans/wheelbase the 4.10 dana 44 was out of, I bought it from TNT after he traded the 3.07 d44 for this one. it was a comanche original, though. -
check the fuel pump connector (under on driver's side towards the front of the tank). also check the CPS connector (rear of intake manifold, 3 pin flat connector). then check the ballast resistor (white ceramic piece on driver's side of engine bay, 2 wires connected) and jumper it to see if it's not working.

yep yep...I just put a 93 trans into a 90, so I had to make a pilot that measured 3/4" ID, with the proper 1 and 1/16" OD. the OD is bigger in 91, I think.

1/2", is what the 87-90 are. 91+ should be .750 or 3/4"
