  1. Try starting it with the accessory belt off. I'm not sure how well/fast it's turning over right now. I'm thinking the new starter is grinding cause it can't turn the motor cause a pully is locked up. I had this just happen with a jeep & a van after they sat for a while.
  2. Care to share this link? Sounds interesting.
  3. Can you tell me WHY anyone ever thought a spring-loaded plastic tensioner on a metal chain would last?!?!
  4. Assuming you have an 88 4.0L 4x4, I would say a 91+ HO 4.0L with low miles. While you're upgrading, you might as well swap in a newer AW4 (or AX15 if you have the peugot currently).
  5. Insurnce company could care less if you ever fix it, once they/you get the settlement from the other (at fault) insurance company they're very happy. (You're not required to fix your broken car) But, you gotta have a bumper by law. Get some quotes (not too high or they'll total the MJ, lol) and take the cash to a local 4x4 shop & have them custom make one.
  6. Is yours a 4.0 or 2.5? That makes a big difference as far as timing chains. I've still never seen a 4.0L with a bad timing chain... Also, check the harmonic balancer for play or rubber showing. You can start the jeep w/o the accessories (belt) hooked up to alleviate the other pulleys, or remove the fan clutch & start it.

    MJ on eBay

Yeah, I'll give it a big old WTF?!?! too. I love the mini-clevis, they're so CUTE!
  8. Sounds like a plan, I'll have to see if Autozone/Advance stocks shocks that cheap, there's no pepboys around here...
  9. In the continuing battle against rusted parts on my MJ, the shocks are next in line. I have around 6 sets of stock XJ shocks in my garage. Will the rear shocks work on my MJ? (I assume the fronts are the same)
  10. A 91 XJ will be a high-output 4.0L, but you're already wanting to swap everything electrical I see. You will need a custom driveshaft for the rear. Possibly a different/cutom crossmember. I also assume that both are automatics? I wonder if the transfer case linkage will need modified? I wonder if the 4cyl fuel pump will pressurize a 6cyl? You do know MJs are sprung under & XJs sprung over, correct? (on this note, rear shocks/mounts are different between the 2) That's all I can think of for now...
  11. If you look at interco's website it lists the SSRs as AT tires, not mud tires. The regular TSLs or SXs work the best from what I've seen.
  12. Maybe we can go check it out sometime, I've been interestd for a while now, but I know nothing about this type of exploration (beside how to sheak around, lol). There's a whole website for Ohio: http://www.weirdohio.com/ & there's a book out about Ohio spots, I lent my copy to my brother though.
  13. Couldn't you weld in some tube stock (like 4x6 tube) like you can on an XJ, then they would double as rock sliders? (or are you looking for strictly restoration replacement parts?)
  14. I pulled em all off by hand easily on my door, but I had the inner skin off & the window rolled all the way down.
  15. To the best of my knowledge there are no interior lights, unless there are some under the dash that I haven't seen. This is a plain-jane base model MJ. So, No MJ has lighted visors or dome lights? I would think that the XJ front map lights would be pretty easy to install.
  16. You haven't been driving it w/o the stub shaft in have you? Just stuff an old rag in the hole and you shouldn't lose any gear oil.
  17. I got my MJ for dirt cheap cause it had a lot of small issues with it. It runs like a champ & I've fixed most of the issues now, but I'd LOVE to have interior lighting at night. There is no place on the headliner where I can see there ever was a dome light installed. Is the wiring all up there still? Also, on the dash my headlight/dash light switch doesn't have the "dimmer" effect to it that mj XJ's (pioneer trim model) does. On the XJ it has the ability to go from dim dash lights to bright dash lights, then it "clicks" over to trun on the dome light; on the MJ the "click" turns the dash lights themselves on or off w/o a dimmer. Is it just limited to that? I've never owned an MJ before, just XJ's.

    Ohio Guys

Like posted above there's a friggin ton of local Jeep clubs & almost NOWHERE to wheel in ohio. I'm a member of the club www.greatlakesxj.com
  19. Mine has fine pressure, but my guage doesn't show anything when driving around town. If I go wheeling through deep water & mud it works again until it dries out. I just think my jeep is happy to go wheeling & works better to try to get me to go again soon...
  20. Mine had thew same problems (I had a bad bulb sorting out the fuse in a front parking light), it was the fuse under the dash.
  21. If it's recently been rebuilt by 2 different shops, it should still be under warranty from somewhere...
  22. nope, nope, nope, nope. What's wrong with the 4wd MJ that you can't sell yours & buy it?
