I got the overhead console mounted in the truck tonight. I had to cut the bracket out of the XJ. The center mount for the console is bolted to a cross brace in the roof. I fired up the cut off wheel and chopped it out. I then trimmed it to fit between the roof supports in the MJ. I then re-installed the headliner, visors, and console. Disreguard the hole in the headliner. Always measure twice! Not that I am almost 75% done with the interior. I needed to address the drivers door panel. From this, To this, (bonus pionts if you can point out the difference)

I will post some pics of the brake mods next time I tear the interior out to finish welding in the seats and install the carpet. I did remove the part where the XJ brake cable would go through the floor. I then made a "L" shaped bracket to put the brake cable into. I did not shorten the MJs brake cable I just looped it under the drivers seat on the floor. The carpet will cover it up. The dash is really easy to install. It is the steering column that is a bear to do. There is a lot of cutting and drilling involved. I basically mounted the XJ column mount (with the dash removed) to the brake pedal bracket. Once it looked good. I drilled a hole through the mount on the drivers side and bolted it down. Once it was bolted down I then used the bracket as a template to drill the rest of the holes. I made a couple spacers for the cowl area, it is spaced away in the XJ, and boleted the cowl down.

I wish I would have let well enough alone. I just finished installing the XJs parking brake lever. Wich meant all the work modifing the dash for the brake release was all for not. Oh well. It looks better with the center brake lever in the console's hole. It is really easy to install a XJ lever in a MJ too. There is some minor cutting to do on the XJs brake lever and you gotta make a cable mount. Unless you want to cut a hole in the floor. I have cut enough holes in the truck this week! The only XJ part you need is the parking brake lever. Everything else was the MJs. If the weather cooperates tomorrow I should be able to get the overhead console installed. Then the interior will be finished for the most part.

It was a late 80's Cutlass Calias on a Bronco frame. The car body sat about 8" above the frame and the wheel wells were not any where near lined up. The front tires were under the bumper while the rear tires were under the door jam. It was dangerous, at best! Edit: Taz beat me to it.

Well all the work messing with the seat belts has been for nothing! The next time I have a thought I need to just let it go. I spent the last 4 hours putting these in. Not done just yet. I need to have the XJ brackets welded in. Now I need to re-do the seat belt buckles again! __________________

Call and talk to Jeremy. Do not email them, call. Have the measurements of the arms and the pics handy. Let them know exactly what is going on. It looks like your arms may be too long. Did you order the kit directly from RK?

Newer style windshield rubber seal in an 89 MJ

I am wondering the same thing. I hope someone has the right answer, which is yes. If not I will try it this spring. -
Well, the mounts are in the right place. Are you running just coils up front? Or do you have a BB on top of the coils? I had my RK 6" coils bow a little when I tried to bump it up to 8".

shelbyluvv replied to camjeep3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Unless he got a kit with a drop track bar bracket and pitman arm. But unless your kit is a 6"+ lift there is no need to mess with the pitman arm. BTW... What lift are you installing? -
edit steering column questions? wrong year sorry jt
shelbyluvv replied to steve's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sorry, I was bassakwards when I was typing. Pretty much the only column that will work is a 95. They changed the dash mounts in 96 so that column is totally different. Tear it apart and see what make it tick, fix it, and do a write up! I would like to see the inner workings again. It has been a while. -
I'll be here

As far as I can remember, it has been a couple years, the Chryco column will not work without doing a lot of re-wiring. Then It still may not work. 95 was the first year for that column too. There are a ton of write ups out there on how to repair the GM tilt columns to take to slack out of them. It is pretty easy to repair the loose ones too. -
MOOG is some of the best stuff you will ever use. You will likely never replace that part ever again.
-
Take a pic of the mounts and trans crossmember. I want to see where you bolted the new brackets to the frame. I think you have the mounts pushed to far forward. There for awhile you could not use a RK LA kit on a MJ because of the way the unirails and crossmember mounts were made.

You will need a pitman arm puller and a BFH for the pitman arm and a "pickle fork" for the track bar. -
MJ Wheel Stance WITH PICS WAHOO!
shelbyluvv replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You sir are correct! I knew I seen that a "groupbuy" went under. Glad to hear it wasn't the one you were using! -
You could always go with a set of drop brackets. There are a bunch of other things at need to be addresed with going over 4.5" of lift. Brake lines track bar swaybar links shocks This is just the front end. The rear has it's own set of problems. New leaf pack or SOA? what to do with the load sensing arm Make sure you do as much research as you can before you pull the trigger on a off the shelf lift kit. At the least the kit should address most of what I've mentioned. Good luck and post some pics of the build!
