  1. Follow up to last nights issues: Truck started like a champ at 6:00 a.m. this morning. Somehow, not surprised. Started again at 11:30 a.m. with no issues. Drove it to the shop, noticed again that it "stumbled" several times going to a stop. Last and most noticable, when turning into the shop it just about died, had to gun the throttle to make the turn. In shop parking lot idle was 1000 rpm. Left it in the shop for a couple of days till Miles, their senior tech, has a chance to check it out. Miles is a great master tech. Not cheap, but very good. A fellow I used to work with used to tell me a simple fact of life: You either have car payments or you have car repair payments. I am getting closer and closer to just biting the bullet and buying a BMW and the heck with it. A BMW can not be much more expensive that what I am paying in the last 6 months. Sure is a much nicer car than a 26 year old Jeep.
  2. My truck crapped out a few hours ago. Same symptoms. No fire, just cranks fine. Same blink codes as Friday. 12 and 22 ( no did not clear them yet). Only other thing I have observed since the fuel pump was replace: Stalled twice at a stop light - restarted right away. Also thought I noticed engine want to stall momentarly several times in the last week. Push on the gas and it went away with a small surge. Suspect that the CPS. Last CPS was not a MOPAR part. Stupid me.
  3. Yes, you are right. BUT it is more fun when you discover the cable has broken and your spare fell off somewhere down the road and it is just not there. Fortunately for me, my winch cable broke while the truck was parked in front of my garage. I discovered the spare just sitting there when I got back home form a quick trip to Costco.
  4. $400 says: "We don't want to be in this 3rd party photo hosting business - there is no way we can make any money. Please take your pictures and GO AWAY!"
  5. As the title says. Need a pair of lights from a stock step bumper with harness would be great! Shipping to 92020 Thanks,
  6. The problem is that people want to play games with the smog checks in an attempt to get around them. So the ODB II port and the tail pipe sniffer are directly connected to Sacramento. Smog stations that play games - risk jail time and their business license. Every so often, the BAR catches somebody and the Attorney General's office is happy to make a public prosecution example. Yes, just clearing the check engine light is the simple thing to do prior to the smog check
  7. I will give a try to clearing the memory this weekend. Interesting that you always have the code 12 and assume you have tried chasing it down. With California smog checks, a "check engine" light is an automatic FAIL and terminates the smog test. So this is important every 2 years. Perhaps it is time to try "deoxit" on some of the PCM connections?
  8. For at least the last 6+ months, I have been getting random check engine lights that come and go. Most of the time it is code 12 - indicating the battery has been disconnected. Last night's codes were both 12 and 22 (coolant sensor or circuit). I am pretty sure the batter has not been disconnected in quit a while (more than 100 start cycles) and the coolant sensor was replaced late last year when the water pump was replaced. So the question is why would I keep getting these random codes that come and go, seemingly all by themselves? Perhaps just the random Jeep electrical connector issues? Or something more? Last work on the truck was a fuel pump replacement about a month ago. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks,
  9. Progress stopped in mid May when I gave up my slot in the shop to find a transmission mount. Found it quickly thanks to a Comanche Club member, but the truck was by then out of the shop for a while. At the same time, Anita's chemotherapy got much more complicated with a weakened immune system. She spent 14 days in hospital from Memorial Day to June 27. Her surgery on June 26 went very well. She is doing great now. Monday, we got the pathology results from surgery.- no cancer found in the samples at all. Radiation starts in August. Current plan on the Comanche is to pick up the finished truck in mid August. So expect work to resume this week. Will call Matt tomorrow to confirm. I still need to order bigger injectors and who knows what other minor things.
  10. Last evening I found this massive 67 page thread on CLD tiles. Lots of actual good testing data in this thread. http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/member-reviews-product-comparisons/146403-sound-deadening-cld-testing-69.html The last post has a findings summary. My key take away was that it gets VERY expensive for not much gain to go from 25% to 100% coverage with CLD tiles.
  11. 1) Credit card. Not saying you will need it, but just cheap insurance. Call your credit card company in advance to let them know you will be traveling. Sometimes when you live in Southern California and charges start showing up in Georgia or Costa Rica, the bank "assumes" it is a fraud transaction and declines authorization. No fun when you are trying to fill up with gas in Kansas at midnight. 2) Autoclub of Southern California Membership Card. Never can tell when you will need it. This last Thursday the battery on Anita's 2 year old Camry crapped out at the beach. AutoClub got it started and we got home. Toyota is replacing the battery on Monday. 3) Power Pack for your cell phone. Navigation takes lots of juice out of your cell phone. Faster than your car charger can replace it sometimes. No fun loosing power to phone in the middle of nowhere on a secondary road. Ask me how I know! Now I will take a decent size batter pack for the cell phone with me on long road trips. 4) Have fun and don't forget to use the roadside rest stops! Last summer, I took two different coast to coast round trips in the 91 Comanche - 15K miles in less than 4 months.
  12. Noticed the 86 Diesel in New York at $5200. 4 X 4 also. Anyone looking for a diesel MJ?
  13. Gabbo, In your research - did you find any before and after actual sound measurements? Asking because I have found a lot of "opinions", but not much factual data. Some of the best documented data I have located was on the diesel truck forums. But most of it was undocumented opinions.
  14. WOW! Love that AMX! Cruiser, are you the lucky owner of that machine?
  15. I know it's been asked before , but it may make more sense now ? I too will have succumbed to the PB drama ... The issue with space for photos on the Comanche club is "Who is going to take care of the problems". Pete sure doesn't need more volunteer issues. For me, Imgur solved the Photo Bucket problem. But I did not have that many pictures on Photo Bucket. Others have tons of them. Facebook also screws with picture links now and then. TDIClub hosts its own pictures, but does not allow links to the outside for those pictures. That assures that the pictures stay with the TDI thread. Maybe something like that would help. But again, What works best to minimize volunteer time is best in the long run.
  16. My semi-educated guess is that you have cooling system problems. First, replace your radiator cap with a new one with the proper pressure. See that you did that - GOOD. Next get your radiator pressure checked. When did you last replace your thermostat? My guess is that it has been a while and it may be stuck, restricting the flow. As long as you are replacing the thermostat - may as well replace the water pump. BTW, be sure you get the correct water pump.. Hoses are also relatively cheap, so replace them too. Don't forget the temperature sensor, replace it and save the old one. Even with everything refreshed on my truck, the temperature still gets to about 215 on a 4000 ft climb. Last year I had cooling issues going from Seattle to Spokane. Doing all of the above resolved my cooling problems. Not cheap, but it worked!
  17. Minuit, Thanks for a factually honest and real measured results!! Most reviews/sound deadening reports lack any quantifiable, repeatable results. Once my TDI diesel conversion is finished, my plan is to attack the noise of the diesel engine. Unfortunately, that will not be cheap or easy. Especially with a low end, older vehicle like the Cherokee/Comanche.
  18. If I remember correctly, there was also supposed to be a version of the Bendix Electrojector system for the 1957 (?) Oldsmobile. Bosch and Volkswagen finally came up with a reasonable production system available on the 1968 (?) VW Variant. MPG was huge as I recall. A friend's dad purchased one and was way over 40 mpg in 1969.
  19. Suggest your research this site; https://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ Lots of good, factual information, without the marketing hype. Here is another very interesting/useful thread: http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94-98-engine/576543-ideas-consider-when-soundproofing-your-truck.html
  20. You might want to try to refurbish the one you have. See this DIY: http://comancheclub.com/topic/33662-refurbishing-the-fuel-sender/?hl=sending&do=findComment&comment=338625
  21. 3000 lbs will stress your cooling system if it is not in good condition. My advice is to make sure your cooling system is working like new, stock from the factory. Last Summer, I towed an 86 MJ from Victoria, B.C. to northern Michigan with my 91 Comanche. I had cooling problems early on in the trip. Once they were properly fixed, the trip went smoothly the rest of the way. Just watch your stopping distances! The brakes on the MJ also need to be in excellent condition. My 91 has the full factory HD trailer package, right from the factory. 3.55 Dana 44, AW4, HD cooling, Metric Ton suspension. Factory tow rating is 5000 lbs. with an equalizing hitch.
  22. Yes, no Santa Ana winds in June. Wait till September/October when the Santa Ana's start. FYI, the Santa Ana winds are caused by a flow of air from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean in Southern California. The air heats up 3 degrees for each 1000 feet it drops. So by the time it hits the coast it is 45 degrees hotter than when it left the Rockies. So nice 60-70 degree air becomes 105-115 when it hits southern California. But that is not the worst thing. Brush/forest fires get feed by the Santa Ana's and rage totally out of control till the winds die down. The Ceder fire in 2004 burned 280,000 acres, destroyed 3000+ homes and killed 15 people In San Diego.
  23. Kaiser Daren. Saw one at the Vault in the Peterson Museum last month.
  24. Tuesday saw 124F temperature in San Diego County at Ocotilla Wells, Ca. Ocotilla Wells is in the desert just off highway 8 after you cross the local mountains. That is a record high temperature for San Diego County. Death Valley was the hottest spot in the nation on Tuesday at 127F. Glad the a/c is working in the house.
  25. Congratulations on the keys (at LAST).
