Take the diff cover off, turn the axles, turn the pinion and make sure everything operates as it should without binding and without too much play/slop. That's about all you can do ;) .

Yep...my cables were a mess too. I never could get the ground loose from the block. I ended up just cutting it off and mounting the new ground a little lower on the block with a bolt in an unused threaded hole just below and in front of the oil filter. ;) Got my new cables from the dealership though...

Loose Steering w/popping noise
BLHTAZ replied to Ben-88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
X2 ... A loose track bar is very often the cause of this issue. You may need a new one as well if the bushing is worn out. -
Coolant/Heater related vaccum motor leaking
BLHTAZ replied to UNL1MTD's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yep...it's called a heater control valve and is not a big deal to replace. Just make sure that you bleed all the air out of the system after you are done or you will have overheating troubles that could cost you a lot more money. -
The ol' intermittant no-start
BLHTAZ replied to aerocorey's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I tried it laying on the ground with about an 18" extension on a 3/8 drive wobble... :headpop: gave up after a little over an hour and I am taking it to the dealership tomorrow to have it done. ;) -
It will keep the axle shaft locked together all the time, but it will not have the 4WD engaged. You will never notice it ;) . All of the newer Jeeps are made with a one piece shaft in the front now.

Just remember that 4 or 5 point harnesses are NOT legal for street use. We have 4 point harnesses in our YJ, but we also kept the regular OEM shoulder belts for driving on the street.

OK...I'll change my opinion on the pricing ;) Cheap (to me) = $700 - $900 Probably worth (to me) = $1300 - $1500

The ol' intermittant no-start

That was going to be my next guess at it. I can't imagine changing that CPS in a parking lot  KUDOS to you... -
I have seen that truck on eBay several times. Nice truck for play  . You will not get hated on here...just good constructive criticism and guidance ;) :D . Now...as far as your shock absorbers ;) ... my peference is the ProComp ES9000's. 4 Wheel Parts in the most common place to find them. I have those shocks on all three of our vehicles now.

That thread is a good way to get around the disconnect, but the light staying on is probably due to the vacuum switch in the t-case going bad.

Sounds like a likely scenario to me. The only thing you can do to confirm it is find out what the fuel pressure is supposed to be and test it.

:agree: What they said... I'd rather eat brocolli with peanut butter...

The ol' intermittant no-start
BLHTAZ replied to aerocorey's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Crank position sensor is a likely culprit. They typically are not an intermittent problem, but I have seen them do it. Check the wiring going to the CPS as well because it tends to get a little close to the exhaust sometimes and get damaged. -
I bought a pair of THESE for mine and they work great.

I was just looking at the Walker Evans site and was disappointed to see that I can't get them in 15"...only 17" . I just don't care for the look of the larger wheels.
-
Great Job so far Rich. Those wheels are sweet. We are thinking about putting the same ones on Tina's YJ ;) .

Maybe someones way of by-passing a bad neutral safety switch?? Just a guess as I have NO idea what it is and that is just what comes to mind.

I think $700 - $1000 should be fair. Cheap would be $300 - $600. Just my .02 ...

I'll let Pete post for himself whether or not he may choose to intervene, but IMHO there is no reason why he should do so. We've been going through this regarding a group buy on another forum. Even though the forum owner/admin clearly stated from the outset that the guy coordinating the group buy (the "seller," in other words) had no affiliation with the forum other than as an ordinary member and that the forum was not involved in and would not be responsible for the group bay -- when the "seller" collected over $15,000 and didn't even order the merchandise people started bugging the forum owner about how he "should" do something. WRONG! If you respond to an ad in the newspaper classifieds and the deal goes bad, do you call the editor and expect him to "do something"? This forum is a place for people to post ads. Pete can't personally vouch for every member's honesty and integrity. These are business transactions, they are covered by various laws (Federal, if the buyer and seller are in different states), and there are avenues available through which to approach dealing with a deadbeat seller. Personally, I think it's very unfair to Pete to even suggest that he get involved (other than perhaps to ban the deadbeat). Absolutely right Eagle. I admin a site (Florida Jeepers Offroad Assoc.) of my own (co-founder) and have been through this. I/we have told folks the same thing there as this has happened a couple times in our almost 5 years of exsistence now.

If you have an electric that you are considering installing in place of your mechanical, it's not hard to do as long as you have the proper controller. My issue was going from a closed cooling system to an open by changing the radiator which forced me to find another way to operate the stock electric fan because the old temp switch was in the radiator, but the new radiator has no place for it. The controller that I am now using will actually control two fans, so if I want to change my mechanical to electric one day...it should be no problem. :D
-
Yes, the closed system overheating problems are very often due to air in the system, but it is not hard to bleed it out using the "temp sensor removal method". These engines use both a Mechanical fan and electric so unless you are replacing the mechanical fan with an electric to run two electric fans, there is no advantage in my particular situation.

:???: man you confused the he!! out of me with that post... :chillin: Me too... :chillin: So...you are saying don't call him out... but... call him out... Did I get that right? :rotfl2: Anyway, if there is absolutely no response in that amount of time, I think it is time to make it public and see what happens. Don't be nasty...just let the group know what's up and who it is. Maybe someone on here lives close to the person or knows them personally and can help.

It pays to think of the simple things first. Glad it wasn't serious

Decisions on paint job...your opinions...??
BLHTAZ replied to BLHTAZ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I am with you on that and that is my biggest dilema. I am not going to do a complete change like that though, so it is down to this decision ;) .
