Yes...ProComp does make good stuff. Their springs tend to be a little stiffer than others, but that mainly seems to apply to the leaf springs as I have not heard complaints about the coils.

IAC woes ... at least I believe it's IAC
BLHTAZ replied to BLHTAZ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I know of that tool, but I don't know if anyone has one at the dealership. I was going to start asking around, but I just took the chance and replaced it as it really seemed to me that it couldn't be anything else but the ECU and that is not likely as they rarely ever go bad. -
I thought it was pretty sweet too...minus the tail of course  If I had the money to collect, I would do something radical to at least one of them like that :D

I, nor anyone, could guarantee that it's the source, but if you can see it wobble that badly...it's definitely A problem. If it comes apart while you are driving it could cause a fair amount of damage so I would be careful. The seal is simply called the front crank seal by most people that I know. I will get a total together for you tomorrow and shoot you a PM. We can probably cut the fee in half now since I already missed the diag one time ;)

You are correct...that is not normal. The balancer on the 4.0L engines have been known to do exactly what you are describing and when they do...it's time to replace it ;) . It is attached to the end of the crank shaft with one big bolt. The same one fits all 4.0L's from 1987 - 2006...and since you will likely ask, I can get you one for $57 + shipping. It weighs about 8 lbs, so shipping is probably going to be $10 - $12 ;) . You can probably still find one of those in good shape in salvage though too.
-
Well...I know up north they go for way more than they should, so I don't know what you may get up there, but down here you might get between $3000 - $4000 if you do good.
-
I don't see that they are saying that you did that or are uneducated...they just don't want it going that way. Your comments "seemed to be" bordering on being hostile which happens all too easily in these types of "conversations" ;) .

As far as I have found...if there is nothing in the specified location (see Eagles previous post) then you "should" have standard bearings. Mine should have been standards, but when we opened it up...they were .010 undersize so there is no guarantee and the best thing to do is get in there and find out for sure.

Welllll...somehow we managed to win it...

It's gonna be worse than that if the Steelers don't get their %$^* together... :headpop:

I finally had a chance to drive it tonight after getting the idle (IAC) issue fixed. The guage stayed on around 60lbs for about 3-4 miles, but then started to move. After I got it good and warm, it was idling at about 35lbs and was running at around 50-60 at 2200 - 2500 RPM. It's pretty cool to finally see the guage work as it should after all this time with it not working...it actually moves with every little fluctuation of the RPM's

The new IAC is in and it is running perfectly :D -
What year truck did the cluster come out of?

Question about seafoam Need kind of fast
BLHTAZ replied to fatcat0491's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I poured it in through the throttle body and when it stubbled a bit...I just slowed down a bit on the pour or I bumped the RPM's up a little. Either way, the stuff is great  I add a can of it to the gas tank in all three of our vehicles every now & then too. -
It worked perfect for mine with the RE 3.5" coils without any other adjustments. Here is a picture of it just after I had put the lift on it with the AAL's. It depends on what truck they come off of. Most 1/2 tons have 2.5" wide springs, but hte heavier duty models typically have 3".
-
Yes, that is it. They don't make one for an MJ and because the XJ springs are shorter than the MJ's, it works fine. It is the one that I used.
-
XJ leaf springs will not fit an MJ. The long leaf that we are talking about is an add-a-leaf that RE makes that will give you an appropriate amount of lift to match the 3.5"coils. Look here... http://www.rubiconexpress.com/Products. ... 55C7543984

 Awesome...it's a great feeling to get it fixed and running again, isn't it... :D

I'm with CW... If you can get a Warn at a REAL good deal, then go that way, but the MM will do you fine. We have a MM8000 on out YJ and while it has not seen a lot of use, it has never let us down. The only difference I have seen is it is a bit slower than the bigger names.
-
Yep...mine was broken in the same place when I bought it. I finally got around to changing it about 2 months ago after having it for over a year ;) .

I did the RE long leaf on mine with the RE 3.5" coils and it matched up perfectly, but it was a VERY stiff ride.
