  1. Said it before and I'll say it again... this is cool! The detail that you're posting up makes working on one of these seem not so bad. Thanks... now I want one.
  2. I've used the Herculiner a bunch of times and each time I've had a little bit of color show through. In the past, I've let it sit for a day and then come back with another good coat which does cover the color. This last time, I decided to coat the area with black primer since I didn't really need two coats. Worked out great! I got just enough cover with the bedliner without any color showing through.
  3. Decided that it was a good day to mate the topper and trailer back together for good. Also removed the 33s for something a little more reasonable: 235x75s on turbines... totally diggin' the turbines! I think it gives it a feal that jumps right out of a WilderNest catalog from the early '90s! Dated look? You bet! They really need a good scrub or I'm also kicking around the idea of painting the wheels black or a graphite color. Again, still need to finish everything on the outside of the trailer... but I still think it needs to be said: LET'S GO CAMPIN'!!!
  4. Bump to keep it fresh. August?... October?... eh?
  5. Pretty sure it would just about take a headlight swap to fully take care of the rust on this truck... take out the headlights, back out the truck, bring in the new truck, reinstall the headlights. Good to see this little truck enjoying itself in its new habitat.
  6. Sold. Thanks again, Austin!
  7. Thanks for the suggestions! Got it figured, though. Keeping it simple with a stainless strip... keeping it classy too. 8)
  8. Which one? The good one is still in storage so it must've been one of the other ones. As far as the panels, every been on MN-Jeep.com? Might want to throw a wanted add on their too.
  9. I want to say that Skip's Deluxe in Carlos has an XJ with a tan interior. They're pretty good on prices too. I'd give them a try. Otherwise, I know that Budget has one with a tan interior... not sure if it's a two or four door though. Still need to see that truck of yours. :wavey:
  10. That's a comfort feature. Another one of AMC's great idea like how the passenger door on a Pacer is a few inches longer than the driver's making it easier for rear passengers to get in.
  11. Thanks dude! Just checked on it and the bedliner is setting up well. Hopefully I can get this put together for the last time this week. I still need to finish up on a few things underneath like the lower shock mounts and getting the proper hardware for mounting the box to the frame. I should probably get back to the filler neck for the water tank too... need to finish the toolbox first. Got some material this morning too for some curtains... maybe some throw pillows. :D
  12. Well... that's that. Opposed to everything that I was considering, the final draw was a family truckster of a green '95 ZJ Laredo. I know, it's a belly button of a mid '90s Jeep, but I couldn't resist. After looking around and driving a few vehicles, there weren't any that just "fit". There's a back story too: My parents bought this Jeep ten years ago with 96k on it. I've done most of the maintenance on it over the years and this thing has never skipped a beat. It's got almost new tires under it, if it moves in the front end it's been replaced all of a month ago, everything works, it's got 186k on it now. The exterior problem with the ZJs is all the plastic. We all know whats lurking underneath. What did it for them was when they went out and bought a 2004 Liberty. They didn't want to fuss around with trying to sell it so they decided that they wanted to just hand over the title to the wife and I. Ideal? No, but it is a tested and good vehicle that'll last us a while. Right now all it needs is a wash. Comes down to it that it's pretty much what I was looking for: it's just something to drive and leave alone as I've got no interest in doing anything to it except for what it needs. I'm sure in a couple years we'll be on the market again. For now, it'll work.
  13. Finished off the lower portion today. Need to go back and touch up a couple spots of silver, but overall I'm happy with how it came out. ... nothing finer than bedliner!
  14. Thanks guys! That's what I was thinking. Just something simple.
  15. Haven't been able to touch this thing for a little while, but I managed to throw some time at it today. It started with just a good cleaning. Getting the box in the winter caused some problems that I couldn't really clean it out good or paint/seal anything. I also decided to take the crazy decals, stripes, and trim off. So, good weather equals blowing the thing apart. Eek! It's naked! Then, since I couldn't talk myself into painting it to match my Eliminator since the paint is in great shape, the decision was made to add a little flash since there was a couple dents and a little rust to take care of. ... more on that later. The stainless angle also found its home on the front to fill the gap. While waiting for paint to dry for the final taping off, the bed turned into a "no shoe" zone. Need to figure out a nice strip or something at the end of the carpet to keep it down while getting into the camper. Also, you may notice that the colors aren't quite the same. Well, I was going to go with the same carpet as the cabinets, but I changed my mind last minute to go with a rubber backed and ribbed type for a little more durability. ... getting there!

    What To Do?

It's times like this that I think "WWJD?" ... what would Jim do?
  17. This is exactly what I was hoping for as most of them that I'm finding are autos... which the wife likes too. Thanks for the input! Still on the search.
  18. Kinda cool watching something that looks so familiar on the surface and then appear so alien under the hood. This is cool! Glad it's working out.

The stripes on the hood have Chief written all over them but it's lacking them on the rockers. Repaint on the lower portion of the body?
  20. I know... as soon as I find a replacement for the wife's daily driver. I suppose this is somewhat of an annoucement too: I'm selling this truck.
  21. If we were to move it that far back I'd say go a little farther. October 18-21st is fall break at the school.
  22. Putting this out now so we can all start making our summer plans: The weekend of August 17th, 2012 is the proposed date for our next Comanche Club Pow Wow! Let's take a step into the way back machine for a second. While I wasn't there, it was a few years ago that we had the most CC members in one spot at THIS get together: Then there was the PARTY AT PETE'S. Remember how the plan was to get even more of us than the last time? Well... ... it didn't happen... but we had a great time! Then there was the Pow Wows of the past: 2005, 2006, 2007... and so on. What was cool about those? Uh... getting these trucks out and playing on some trails? You bet! Now... lately, I've noticed some talk about the Gilbert OHV park in northern MN. What I'm proposing is a mixture of the get togethers where we all meet up and hang out with a common interest and the Pow Wows that were centered around wheeling some Comanches. So, August 17, 18, and 19th or 2012 is the date as of now. If it needs to move to allow for more, so be it. The idea is to get as many of us in on spot for chillin' with some good homies, some wheeling, more chillin' with some good homies, and maybe a malty libation or two if there's anytime left. Need to break it down some more? Here we go: We need a spot to call a base camp. Planning has also been considered with xjrev10 and he has volunteered his place for camping. From there, he's all of a short drive from the already said Gilbert. There's also miles of logging roads and scenic highway for MJ enriched touring and convoy. Plenty of other such fun things for those who may need to break away and enjoy some MN specific goodness. For those who aren't familiar with how we roll up here, here's some links to some popular MN fun: Exploring the Iron Range Gilbert Trail Map Maritime Museum List Duluth Railroad Museum MN DNR Gilbert Site For those interested in the OHV park, or for those who think they wouldn't be, I think Austin (xjrev10) put it best that there are "trails you could drive a Prius down to trails with rocks the size of a Prius". Anyone is welcome to come up and play around with their truck as far or as little as they want. Trails you can go down without scratching your paint... trails that have big signs that say "expect body damage"... trails in between... I'm sure Austin will chime in with further details on the park and the overall weekend. So there we go. I'm sure there'll be more specific details as we get closer to summer. With high hopes that this thing will work out it brings up the question... who's in?
  23. I see your tailgate has already found a home. Truck looks good too!
  24. I did something silly today and went out and stopped at a few local car dealers. Nothing of interest at the first, but the second place opened my eyes to another prospective runner. It's another type of cult vehicle but it's also a vehicle that I've poked fun at in the past... but then I drove it and it really opened my eyes! Anyone have any opinions on the Chrysler PT Cruiser? From what I understand, they're a rebodie Neon... and there are like a gazillion of those out there but only with manuals. Apparently Chryslers had some issues with their autos. Anyhow, this one has 136,000 miles on it. Everything feels tight but I know that there has been some body work done on the rear lift gate and on the driver's door. On the up side, whoever bought this car from the factory had their priorities set! It sports the Limited package with all the options and leather seats, sun roof, non turbo 2.4, and a manual. Granted, this car really isn't "me". But that's what I need! Something that I have no drive to modify or add anything. I just need something to roll with. Any opinions on these things?
