I finally got around to putting the interior back together this evening. I replaced the broken a-pillar with another one off the shelf. Everything else went back together just fine. I ran the wires for the new a-pillar gauges while everything was apart too. Going to have a trans and oil temp visuals now! It'll be a little while until I finish the wiring, however. The camper is taking priority right now then the next project needs to be a new shop. It really won't be that much to run wires to some sensors, but I can't tell you how much I despise working in my garage right now... zero space and I'm not about to do anything more than I have to out there. Touched up the scratches at the top of the windshield too... this truck needs a bath badly! I didn't do anything with the water stained headliner yet. Not sure what I'll use just yet but for now I just wanted it back together. On an upside, I figured it would be a great time to upgrade to some '97+ door seals. These things are nice! Had a great set on the shelf that has been waiting to go in for over a year now. Another bit of a downer is at the valve cover. My old '88 did this same thing that the engine just comes alive up and over 2500 rpm. Changing out the valve cover on the other truck brought it back to life like the snorkles were all plugged up and it couldn't vent properly. For how long ago this engine was built, I can't even remember if I cleaned them out when it was apart... I like to think I did though. Anyhow, this is doing the same thing. Ho-hum power until you really tromp on the skinny pedal then it really wakes up. ... still bummed. :(

Probably true, but if Jeep were to produce a vehicle with a previously used name, then the least they could do it change up some sheetmetal to something more familiar. I like the lines of the Liberty. The front isn't too far off either. Just bring the headlights down a little, put a separation between the headlights and the indicators, and throw a corner marker on the fender flare to keep things legal. I'll admit that I really don't care for the Liberty's oversized front flares, but I was thinking more off of what could be done with what they already produce. As for the Grand front end... we'll see on the next rainy day I get.

I was thinking about this today. I guess I think of more what would it look like rather than what should it offer. Sure it'd be awesome to see a little diesel and solid axles and all the good stuff. Take a look through what Chrysler has to offer between the frame of a JK (which they use for a platform for awesome concepts already), the axles from a J8, and the CRD equipped vehicles and I think something could come to life. Drivetrains are swappable as are body modifications to make exactly what we want to see. Obviously, if a new Comanche were to be produced it probably wouldn't have the classic lines that we all know and love. But what could it look like? I like the idea that a slightly stretched wheel base of a JK Unlimited, the majority of the sheetmetal lines of a Liberty, and some magic fairy dust to make it all go together right would make for a real handsome love child. ... and offer it in lots of crazy '80s color schemes!!!

Thanks! Here's another: Curtains! Rainy day so it was spend rockin' the sewing machine. I'll snap another picture with them hung up at some point.

Time to get to the little stuff and start the list of things that need getting done yet. I found some dimensions for the brackets that make the pop out windows go "POP-POP!". Probably add a wing nut or something to keep it upright. Next on the list is a flash light... because everyone needs a flash light. Then there's the lights. I was hoping to just finish everything up by just throwing some lights in and some lenses to wrap it up... not so much. Can't believe that I never saw this, but the bulb sockets are toasted. Not to worry! Rather than swapping the sockets, I figured it would be easier to just change out the whole harness from the factory pulg back. Just pull one off the shelf, right? Yup! Then there's the tire carrier. I hate drilling into this thing, but wanted to add a little more support and tie it into the bed. Plenty strong! Next are the support poles. Again, these are another one of those little parts that I didn't get with the topper. Oh well. I made up these so they extend from 4-7'. At the top I added a loop just in case I were to ever want to tie to a tree or something. I dunno... seemed right at the time but I think they just look goofy now. Again, oh well. If anything, they're a good spot to hang some party lights. To keep them in the proper spot, just a simple hose clamp does the job. They don't need much since they're just there to keep everything steady. I found some cool clamps with a thumb knob to keep things easy. I wanted something simple for the rear bumper that didn't look goofy or out of the ordinary... I mean... let's keep this simple, right? Again, I kept with stainless but I have to say that I'm torn weither or not to paint it. The kick stands for the rear just bolt on. Obligatory weld close ups: I thought about adding a receiver or something, but I liked the simplicity of it. On a down side, seems as though there's a crack by the front window. I knew that it was there, but I don't know if it opened up with bolting the topper down to the bed... or if I'm just paranoid. Anyway... pictures!!! I think it looks pretty serious all put up! Need to finish up soon though. Reserved a spot for the first weekend in June for a maiden voyage!

I stand by what I said in another post that I like the way that the site is set up. It's not overly complicated to nevigate and I always get in the same groove with my flight path when I'm on. My two cents are that if things need to change then would it be possible to keep the same layout? Just like Mr. Rogers... I like my routine. I might not hang up my jacket and put on a comfy sweater, but I definitely like the familiar feel everytime. Ever notice how his crib never changed color or mixed up the furniture? Mr. McFeely would have to look twice at the address when dropping off the mail! Not to mention that Trolly just might fall right off his track if there was a throw pillow in the way... then how would Lady Aberlin know when to turn on the charm? On a side note, I like to compare the Mr. Roger's Neighborhood characters to members on CC. Want to know which one you are? I digress... moral of the story is that I like the atmosphere and feel of how it is now. For me, for the other creatures of habit, and for Mr. McFeely please keep things as close to the same as possible. Hello neighbors.

I went out and had the windshield looked at today. It's raining today so it was easy to see where it was leaking. The problem... yup... the "r" word. A couple small leaks came up where some surface rust had popped the seal. "Not a huge deal" I was told and I waited around until the windshield was out so I could see it for myself. He was right... not a real big deal but we all know that rust never sleeps. The rust was cleaned up (for now anyhow) and a new piece of glass was installed. Looking over everything, I've got some new scratches to touch up at the top of the frame. It's just a sinking feeling that everything is sealed up again just to know that someday it'll return. At the same time it's incredibly frustrating to try and try to keep something nice just to know that it won't last. As a consolation, the glass guy did say that it's the best frame on an '80s vehicle that he'd ever worked on. Yeah... thanks for that nugget of praise. Bummed... bummed out is the best way to describe it right now. :(
