Anyone make home made front and rear bumpers?
neohic replied to E4Marty's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: This ^^^ I have 1 of his on my Blue 88 and am very happy! ;) Glad to hear you're still happy with it! The hopeful plan was that I'd start cranking out rear bumpers that are somewhat customizable. Cranking out turned into building one. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=33743 Really taking a step back from this at the moment. The house needs some attention this summer to the point that I'm doing doors, windows, roof, eaves, siding, and tearing down half of my garage and going bigger. Hopefully getting back to this closer towards the fall if anyone is interested. -
Could get some ideas from watching TRUCKS! on Spike TV. Their project "Rolling Thunder" is the transformation of a Mazda truck into a nasty little road course Ranger. The truck features a Mustang IRS.

Of course I'm going to try and lean you towards purchasing the truck. On the other hand if you don't, there has been plenty of communication that we can probably send along some contact information to the new owner... if it sells, anyway. I think just knowing where it is, who has it, and that it's in a safe place is well enough for me.

Diesel Fuel Only - Factory Diesel Comanche

You make it sound like it's a BAD option. :brows: *cue the bad '70s porno music* -
Did he say if it was an all or nothing type of deal?

Find out anything cool?

Weren't the engines just stock 2.5s? I thought that towards the end of the reign of Comanche awesomeness in racing that the engines were still stock but were assembled by the team out of hand picked factory components. :dunno: Not to cut this one down or anything, but I'd totally rather have the '88 Dave Diedrick truck. For reals! What happened to all these trucks?! Any chance that passing along some contact information to the new owner would be possible? I'd really love to see some better pictures of this truck. It'd be interesting to see what kind of suspension components are under it!... drop axle in front?... fiberglass leafs in the rear?... I need to know!

Done some looking around and found a picture of it at an event in Detroit in 1990. http://mwphoto-misc.smugmug.com/Cars/SC ... ipm/Medium Sterling took 15th.

Okay, I take it back. Seems as though they had minimal cage work done for the interiors. Looks to me like they only had one main halo up and over the rear window. How come the truck for sale has two seats?
-
Kinda feel bad about using them as extra weight in the winter. Didn't these trucks have a front spoiler in the bumper? Wonder if that's in the "extra parts".

I think you can see the bars in the overhead 3/4 shot... Look closely at the front of the bed. I was thinking the same thing, but why isn't there any cage in the cab? Shouldn't the bars in the front of the bed tie into something? ... on a side note, I never noticed the wheels on these trucks. Got a whole stack of them in the garage.

... guilty. I want it.

Incredible is right. Raises a lot of questions for me but also keeps the awe factor very high. Incredible. Just incredible. Thanks Rob.

Long legggggeeed MAMA install
neohic replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just cut it in half and welded it back together with a sleeve. Don't try and bend it around to make it fit... it'll only kink. -

Just be sure that the unions at the "Y" are tight! I've got the same header on mine only ceramic coated and just about every other time I crawl under it to change oil I have to work the pipes back together and tighten the clamps again. I suppose that's partly my fault for not putting a decent clamp on them. See if you can find some good band clamps while you have everything out of the way and throw away the exhaust clamps that come with it. Good luck! -
Any updates from Brandt?

Good call on the leather. Looks like the driver's seat has already started the "VW lean" on the outside of the bottom seat cushion. That's typical. Out of the couple Jettas that I've owned and the several VWs that I've driven, it seems that any Jetta, Golf or Passat with over 100,000 miles have this. The leather doesn't stretch all that well in these cars and it turns into a goofy pocket. Overall, the interiors are very comfortable. Car looks good!

I was having the conversation with someone about the power difference with leaving 3.55 gears in a Jeep but running 33s... got me thinking, "why not try and see?". Honestly, there is a difference and I'm not sure if the HO has anything to do about it but I didn't really think it was all that bad. I know that the speedo was way off but the power seemed doable.

"beater cross" ... poor little fella... -
If the dark blue is available for zip up hoodies, I'd be in for one with tan logos in a small. As for hats... no hats? Geez! Oh wait... ... yeah, that just happened. Oh, no he didn't!!

It's back for an update! A whole lot of nothing has changed on this thing other than it getting a little worse. For a couple months now when I jump in to start it up, it needs a little gas to help it out. Fuel regulator took a dump but it still runs really nice with lots of power and good mileage. I'll get to it... probably. Otherwise it's turned into a real death trap on the road! The shocks were bad when I got it and since they've only got worse. I ended up taking a good used set of Ranchos off my shelf. Rides like a Caddy now!... a very, very rusty Caddy! Anyway... I like this truck.

You sure? I bet you could find a good custom build one to put on there if you tried. :D Truck looks good. Still can't get over the dumpster picture!
