Bench Seat 4 Point Safety Harness
neohic replied to comanche1989's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Someone needs to ask... Why do you need a 4 point harness in your truck? Do you go racing were you need to pass inspection? Rock crawling perhaps were you don't want to fall out? Something else? I've though about the same thing for one of my trucks but I'm going with bucket seats. If I don't make up a full cage, I was thinking about just going with a simple support bar (kind of a mini cage) that ties into the b-pillars at the factory seat belt mounting locations... if not just some factory shoulder belts anyway. There's a lot that goes into figure where to put supports though. For example: Having the shoulder straps in the proper locations could be the difference between comfort and compressing your spine. Everything changes then too if you're not the only one who drives the truck. Difference height people require different strap locations. Then there's the performance of putting it and and taking it off everytime you drive where the shoulder belt is just one convenient pull and a click. Unless you need one, what would be wrong with replacing the belt with another? -
That's true. A ridiculous amount of abuse however also a little loose and clunky so everything lines up without much fuss. The problem comes in when someone sees them and thinks, "Yeah! These are cheap and they kinda look like those fancy rod end heim thingers that I see in those buggy magazines!" They are klunky and a little loose for a reason. When someone turns around and drives their rig on the street with those, then it turns into chasing the steering wheel around because their alignment won't stay true. I'll say it again just for good measure... they are klunky and a little loose for a reason. Flip through the Ghetto Fab thread on Pirate4x4 and you'll see tons of them! In lots of applications, I'd very much call them hack. In some situations where you want a ridiculously cheap trail rig that goes on a trailer to head to the trails I think they'd work out just fine. On the trail... plenty of flex and easy to find a replacement. On the road... scary and liable to kill a family of four in a minivan. So... with all that, and in the right application, they can work very well: Dude's username on here is Doc... hasn't been on in a long time, but I know him. He actually gets a ton of grief over his truck. It performs awesome! It also has the same tractor joints for upper and lower control arms both front and rear. Speaking of the rear... it's a Dana 35 with moly shafts and some (I think) 4.56 gears. He says that he's broken a few axles with it, but it was the type of lines where the tire got really pinched. Overall, it's a cool rig and quite the trail monster.

There really should be a discussion on these. I've seen a few people who actually use these things as control arms and beat the crap out of them! They're plenty strong being the use that they are intended for and they're mega cheap and easy to come by. I'm not saying that it isn't a little hack of common, but for a low budget offroad-only rig, I think they'd work fine... at the risk of flaming, anyhow. :D

Neat. Looking back at the pictures, it looks like you're cutting the rockers out too, yes? -
Ssh! Don't tell everyone... :peek:

I'm sure he'd sell it if I went and asked about it. Like I said, it was just a year ago and he knows my truck... he even waved at me the last time I went by in it a few months ago! It had a little rust around the rear wheels and the rockers under the front doors were a little beat up. At the time, he had it at the end of his driveway asking $5k. I stop and we talked for a while and, without even asking about price, he just comes out and says that he'd like to get $3k for it. Eh... I really didn't need it and I really, REALLY don't need another vehicle. That aside, I'd still love to have it.
-
I thought that too but it was over a year ago now. I got a call from the seller a couple months after I looked at it asking if I was still interested... guess I left an impression on him. I really don't have time for something like that let along another camper build. I see it still sitting through the garage windows everytime I drive north of my place. I'm sure he'd jump at the thought of me buying it... whenever that might be.

Who displays jealousy with a question and an arrow made of text? <----- This guy! My brother had an '82 Westy that we were looking in a V6 swap shortly after we did his VR6 Cabby. His was in awesome shape! Low miles... all original... stupid clean... his daughters loved it... but the problem was that it sat just too much. He sold it almost without telling me. At the time, I found nice Syncro for sale very close to me that had a trashed interior. Perfect! The stars seemed to be aligned to put the two together right up until he sold it. Good find!

Although unfortunate to see a clean (well... SUPER clean by MN standards) MJ with that kind of body damage, I just love the Chief package in blue. Diggin' it! -

Fell asleep a couple hours ago knowing that I have to drive home this afternoon. We were in 12th then and we're in a sturdy 9th now.
-
:dunno: I'd daily it.
-
We were up to 9th position at the end of last hour but seem to have dropped back to 10th. Hmm... just the single digit felt pretty good for a while anyway. Going back to two just stings a bit.
-
Well, we stumbled a little over night. Went back to 14th place with 4110 out of a possible 4805 points. We'l get it back... we'll get it back...
-
Going into hour #9 at 11th place of 62.
-
Thanks dude! 1990 out of a possible 2230 points thus far.

Hope you passed the wonders of Comanche Club onto the new owner. -
Same numbers yet. I've been searching on a few since Jay posted and I think he might be onto something with 39... it's the only one I've been looking at though. We're in hour #4!

What's next on the list? On to cleaning the dirt out that's way in the little crevasses? :D -
We've got quite a bit, but more information never hurts. Numbers that we're still looking into are 12, 14, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 27, 39, 40, 41, 42, and 44.

So there's this thing I do every year. It's a 50 hour trivia marathon and it's always held over the second weekend in February. See, the local college radio station in my old stompin' grounds holds it and it's kind of a big deal in the St. Cloud area. It probably isn't what you're thinking either as most of the answers are not just a simple Google search away. LINK. In short, this is a self admitted 50 hour nerd-athon. A big part of the event is the visual trivia packet. Each team who registers gets a packet of pictures. You don't know what kind of question will be asked about concerning each picture... the idea is to just find out as much info as you can before they ask whatever question they might ask whenever it may be over the 50 hours. This is where I'm asking for your help, CC. I've posted a link to radio station's Facebook page. They've never done this before, but they posted all 46 pictures from the visual trivia packet. Have a look: Facebook Pictures! What I'm looking for is anything that you might know about any of the pictures. We have a forum of our own that we have been discussing the pictures for about a month now and we know much about many of the pictures. I'd post up what we know, but this is a competition after all and I'd hate to see prying eyes wandering about our small team's slice of the interwebs. So, whether you take some time and do some digging on them, or if you just know something off the top of your head... any help is awesomely appreciated! Hell, much appreciation to anyone who read through all this picture-less text! Thanks dudes!
