  1. I'm just seeing this. I have been lurking on CC for quite some time and just recently began to post and respond again. Don was, as many others have said, a huge resource and someone who showed respect even for those of us who didn't even know enough to ask the right questions. The older I get, the more I realize how important and valuable people like Don are.
  2. If you’re not in a hurry just let him know you want some and get in line. Really good pricing and good communication. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I vote for 2 or 3
  4. Sent a PM Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. The yellow cab (the main color and on the hood) is the same as my 87. What do you think the interior color is? I have recently been "educated" about the various tans, creams, etc. that might have come with this exterior yellow.
  6. Do the S10 style fit exactly or require some trimming of the interior?
  7. I am running wider axles and chose the rear 7" Wrangler TJ flares on all four corners. There is some cutting away of the sheet metal and I haven't quite figured out what to do to replace the inner liner for the fronts, but I really like the look. Once I get the rears finished I will post more pics.
  8. Good to know about what fits and what doesn’t thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. @sinkrunThat's a good question. The truck is in another state but I'm hoping to get the engine build number to get more info. @Pete M That doesn't surprise me, but I thought that @MeanLemons is changing just the intake. I'll go back and take another look. As far as the Renix swap, I'm asking what components make it up and/or are required to make it work. To a novice it seems like some later model components might have come over with the later model motor, but based on what you say about the HO upgrade I guess not.
  10. Pete- First, I'm asking what "should" (and probably was since the truck is running well) retained in the '87 Renix MJ when the later model motor was swapped in. this is to help me understand what all is involved int eh Renix system. Second, I am wondering about why (what would be the benefit(s) of) I would swap in a later model intake (like the one MeanLemons describes in his build thread.) What are the advantages and downsides of putting non-Renix era hardware on a Renix motor? Third-I didn't say it very well, but you're right that I am thinking about what it might take to convert my Renix to a HO format. Fourth - got the tranny handled. Thanks for hopefully helping me to clarify.
  11. I have a 1987 MJ that came with a 4.0 I6 and a Peugeot 5 speed. I decided (without knowing what it would entail) to swap in an AW-4, and my buddy had a 4.0 that he was told by a friend of his was from a 2002 TJ. I don't have the time or the space to do this swap, so I took it to a fairly reputable 4X4 shop and had them handle the swap. Now it's worth mentioning that a different shop had started the process of swapping in this later model motor into a different MJ but had never been able to keep it running. If I was going to spend the money to swap in this motor, I wanted to make sure that it was running and ready to go. When I dropped it off, the owner of the shop noted that the techs who had started the swap process had retrofitted the Renix system. My other Jeeps are much later models so I have no experience with Renix. My research seems to say that the components that were moved over were all of the fuel injection bits a pieces, especially the injectors and the fuel rail. Swapping the AW-4 in means that it came with its own TCU. What I don't know is what else had to have been fitted to the newer model engine in order for this to work. This is kind of an intellectual exercise at this point, but I want to understand what I have in the engine bay at this point. I say it's an exercise because it's running good and shifting just like I would expect it to. And I get that many of the guys on this forum are not fans of Renix, but at this point I just want to know what I've got so I can look into any modifications that might be beneficial. Thanks in advance. This project - including a Dana 44 high pinion and a Dana 60 - is going past the three year mark, so I hope that some of my posts in the near future are about things like driving the vehicle.
  12. I'm interested in a set of these if you're making a list.
  13. So what are the advantages of doing this intake swap? I'll check out nickintime as well.
  14. I just got some but it will be a month or so before I get them installed. there's about 1300 miles between me and my MJ at this point. I'll try to remember to post here when I get them installed.
  15. And the Notch Customs are supposed to clear 35s
  16. I just had an email conversation with Max (I think that's his name) at Dirt Bound Offroad. His flares are apparently always fabbed as part of the armor. I'm waiting to hear if he'll fab just the flares with some way to mount them. They look similar to the ones Krustyballer pictures. Late to this thread, but I also talked with Russ at Notch Customs. They have changed the way they attach the mounting studs to the flare based on customer feedback. They are now 'glassed in instead of glued. They're supposedly shooting an installation video with an actual MJ showing the rear wheel wells. He noted that on the long bed that the gas fill door will protrude into the flare. I like the way they look and the price. Installation will be a bit of a job for us non-bodywork guys.
  17. I had some trouble with water on the passenger side as well. The culprit was the seal (foam rubber-type as I recall) that connects the cold air intake to the outside. I didn't do the repair myself but I know the dash had to come out at least most of the way. I also re-sealed the heater fan. Let us know what you find when you get into it. This seems to be an issue on some but not all of the MJs.
  18. Yeah. I meant the Peugeot BA-10/5. I described it that way because everytng I have ever read or heard about it is that it isn't worth rebuildng or replacing if there is another option. To be fair, this tranny has the same mileage as the motor, and that's not half bad.
  19. I've had my 87 MJ for a little over 2 years. What was going to be a "simple" upgrade of the rear axle to a Dana 44 (to get me to the Metric Tonne place) has gone totally out of control. The rear is now a Dana 60 and the front a Dana 44. Both geared to 4.56 with a four-link in the front, Hell Creek springs in the rear. The lift is designed for me to be able to run 35s. The original 4.0 l-6 has about 275,000 miles on it and the tranny is the much-loathed 5-speed. I also have an XJ with around the same miles, so I am a fan of the 4.0 I-6 motor. I have found an engine rebuilder locally with a good reputation, and I have also talked with HotWire about a harness, so what's the next step? It's a little weird that I don't do a lot of wheeling, but am building the truck for some travelling I do on some pretty nasty fire roads and often just pairs of ruts that go from A to B. I want to go to an automatic transmission and since I'm already committed to some new drive shafts and want a new motor (which i can spec for any year that will physically fit), I'm looking for recommendations for a particular tranny (with overdrive), transfer case and motor combo and from what years in particular. If you have donor vehicle recommendations, that would be great. i have looked over the forums using some generic search terms, and I apologize in advance if there's something out there with good info that I've missed. Most of the posts I;ve seen so far seem to be focused on swaps that allow the use of existing wiring (with modifications) and sticking with MJ / XJ parts from a similar era. (I do have a line on a very low mileage 4.0 from 2002 that I can use as a back up instead of gong straight to the reman.) Unfortunately my job keeps me hopping about 60 hours a week and it' tough to check out the forums on a frequent basis. (yeah, I know... wha, wah, wah!) Any thoughts you have are welcome.
  20. Good to see this - it's great timing. Thinking about spring under instead of over. What else would need to be changed? I have been working with a shop to rebuild/upgrade front and rear axles (D60 rear / D44 front) and lift my long bed MJ so 33s or maybe 35s would fit underneath it. I am not a hard core wheeler by any stretch, but I do want something that can haul some weight on some nasty funky fire roads. He's recommending a bunch of parts out of the Clayton Manufacturing 6.6" lift kit, and with springs it's $2700! no way I can go that much. i don't have any place to do this work myself but I'm looking really hard. I am open to ideas, criticisms and suggestions.
  21. That's correct. i looked at the Rubicon 17" wheels with 4.5 on 5 but the centers don't look to be big enough to manage the lockouts. In the mean time I decided to go with new axles. nothing purchased yet but 5.5 on 5 seems like a choice that would give me some other options on wheels.
  22. I'm getting ready to swap out both axles in my 87 MJ and I want to go to a 5" on 5-1/2" bolt circle, probably 17" bout would consider 16" I want to have a little more choice in for the tires and I want some more room in the center hub area for the Super Winch lockouts on the front. I know I could buy new wheels but I would rather find some at the Pick a Part if I can. What do you know of that meets the criteria above and is also aluminum? Thanks
  23. Alex- Just looking through this thread. The '97+ conversion is in my future...far but in my future. What caught my eye was the Euramtec B pillar lights. Are those the A-7180 lights here: http://www.euramtec.com/parts/c/c01/7180.html if not, do you recall the model? I had no idea there might be improved and new lights
  24. I know this is an old thread, but it's the only one that came up when I searched "blower motor replacement." I have an '87 MJ and strangely, it seems to be leaking rainwater into the cab through what I think is the blower motor (heater fan motor?) seal through the firewall. it seems crazy but I haven't been able to see any other place the water might be getting in. The windshield seal is good. How do I get that sucker out? I'm not afraid to tear into something but I don't want to take a bunch of stuff loose/apart that I don't need to. Any help or resources are appreciated. Happy Holidays! P.S. this is getting critical since the MJ is my DD for now. The XJ is getting a new floor and heater core.
  25. KYMJ-Any luck finding this leak? I'm reluctant to start removing the dash in my driveway in the winter, but here in Indiana it's been pretty wet/rainy and I need to do something. Plus-I've never had the dash apart and the heater box looks challenging. I would be willing to tackle this if anyone could point me to a reference for how to disable and reassemble all of that stuff. If you attacked this from the engine compartment side did you just try caulking around the blower motor hole in the firewall or something else?
