Rotational Grind/bump
88whitemanche replied to The_Kack's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Double check the transfer case linkage I had something similar that happened to me.... -
Well the fluid is brown but a clear brown not a gunky brown but I don't know if it's burnt or not...I will know more later on today when I check it
-
Ok so when you say to drain and refill...do you mean new fluid? Or just drain and refill with the old fluid so the old stuff can move around circulating the debris that was stuck....then change to new fluid eventually after a few oil changes? Sorry if I ask plenty questions...I used to have an Mazda millennia that the auto trans went out in me biggest p.o.s and ever since then I've been driving stick but since I had the opportunity to trade for an aw4 cherokee I said why not? But that issue for the auto trans. has always been a scare for me....
-
Just a question...I've asked this forum and I've asked a few guys that are reputable mechanics Cc- says to do the oil and filter change But these guys say not to because there may be gunk and materials that are stuck in the transmission that draining the oil and putting new fluid may cause the transmission to slip
-
What's up guys So I've been working in the 98 cherokee 4.0 aw4 It has 161k miles I'm going to doing all the fluids on it in the next coming weeks.... I wanted to know should I change the oil and filter in the transmission? Or should I just leave as it is? I really don't know any info of the service history on the jeep but just for peice of mind I wanted to know should I? Or should I not? Thanks
-
Ok so my next question is regarding the transmision....it has 160k miles and I don't know nothing about the service history of the truck...do I still do a fluid flush and filter change anyways? Or do I ride it out till it goes on me? *the transmission is still in good running form*
-
Well it's a 98....took a few hours mainly because the lower tranny line at the radiator has a quick disconnect that it was pretty much rusted so I had to on blast it for a bit so it can get loose...other than that it's straight forward...just time consuming it's my second jeep and first 4.0
-
You mean motor wise? I'm replacing now as we speak the radiator because it cracked at the seam....man what a headache compared to the 4cyl motors...but it's a learning experience

Hey guys I just traded my gmc Sonoma for a 98 cherokee 4.0 aw4 231....I am please to say its in good shape but it does need some maintenance.... What can you guys do to advise me to look for while I tear into the truck? Thanks any info is always welcome
-
*update* I haven't been doing anything to the jeep lately just enjoying after upgrading my tie rod...but I have been seeing other rigs...just past weekend a buddy of mine bought a 1974 international scout 2...tho to visit him and trying to get his truck started. While doing that I was noticing that it was strange that this rig had an inline 6 carb motor....I thought scouts either came with a v8 or a 4 cylinder come to find out a previous owner had dropped in a 74 cj5 driveline in the truck....sweet! Pics to follow and also finally got to trade my 99 gmc Sonoma for a 98 cherokee 4.0 auto 4x4.... Enjoy the pics As regarding the cherokee....what do you guys think I should look for? As far as problems or upgrades to the driveline?
-
I would like them more for a trail rig...can't really hate on the creativity
-
I've never had any problems with someone fixing my truck? Well my only mechanic...I only go to him when I don't have the right tools or some of the knowledge to fix my truck...but other wise no problems even took it to his electric guy and worked on my truck for 2 days with no problems...

If the body is in that bad of shape....I could imagine the frame....smh
-
Sweet! Can't wait for more finished details!

Track Bar Movement
88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I get what your saying...I really love my turbines I love the way they give that factory look to the truck even with a small lift...but the back spacing on these rims suck!!! I'm leaning more to get some d-window rims because I don't like spacers even if they are hub centric.... -
Track Bar Movement
88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yep...and the guys had a hard time getting them into the rim...I have the BFG all terrain and the lip of the rim some how hugs the rim and had trouble getting them in there...even to do an alignment the guy took over an hour and a half to finally get all four alignment mounts on the rims. -
Track Bar Movement
88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes I do have the 10 spoke turbines...no worries they ended up doing them for free to....but preferred the weight that go in the edge if the rim...now no death wobble but I do still feel a bit of a shimmy around 40mph though but not much -
Track Bar Movement
88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Eagle that's the first thing I checked after I felt the death wobble but no mud... Just an update While looking at my suspension I just decided to get a new drag link and draglink tie rod and while I was under there I was checking if my ball joints were bad...turning the tire just to see any different movement then I noticed where are my balance blocks? P.o.s sticky balance blocks were gone!!!!! Well since I had everything off I put the new draglink and tie rod in....and I'm at the tire shop demanding to not have the sticky balancing block! But the ones that go in the edge of the rim!!!!! Bastards!!!!! Will know after the balancing and alignment if everything went ok Thanks guys for all your input.... -
Track Bar Movement
88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well it is my daily driver and I drive mostly highway mileage to get to where I'm going. It sucks because right when I'm picking up speed at about 40-60 mph is when it's about it's peak to go in to death wobble and when I'm slowing down it wobbles more like I know something is wrong there -
Ok when this happened to me there's a connector 101 where it is in the back of the engine bay in the driver side right above the brake booster....it looks like this Clean this with electrical cleaner and toothpicks And it should start right up with no problems...this connector causes too much issues with starting or just wiggle it before you try to crank your truck and see if it makes a difference

Track Bar Movement
88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks guys I figure it was the track bar moving when I had someone turning the steering wheel but come to notice even after just a few months ago I redid my whole steering brand new and one night of getting stuck and mudding crazy death wobble at high speeds 45-70mph...I know for a fact bent my tie rod and got replaced with a zj tie rod and now I think just for the sake of it just replace my draglink and draglink tie rod end....now I know a track bar won't cause death wobble its most likely the draglink....since that's what's left in the steering.. -

They look great! How did you grind them? With a wire brush?
