How do you set your truck up
Rokhound replied to Rokhound's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Who had the beer  that sound great but here we go with this thought: Ok guys I got the old 8.8 out from under the truck to day. I also started to set up the new 8.8 today. I have the truck set up on jack stand the front is on the 33’s and the rear is on jack stands and she is level at the frame rails and top of the truck bed rails now I don’t know if this is important but I thought I would mention it. So I got my handy dandy angle finder out and but it on the tail shaft of the t-case and it read 0 degrees what is that all about. I thought it would read differently but what ever. So I took that info and put it into the new 8.8 so the pinion on the new 8.8 is at -2 degrees and the spring perches are set at 4.5” form the ends. So I guess my question after all this BS does this sound right. -
Here is my question for you guys how did you set up your truck to receive the new rear end. Why I am asking if the truck is set up on jack stand and leans forward or back it will throw off my reading of the t-case degrees so in return it will throw off my pinion right. So how do I go about setting the truck up or am I making this harder than it is??? I am new to all this and this is my first truck I have ever built so that why I am asking.

that tab is part of tranny not the cross member i only metioned the the cross member because i did not see that tab until the cross member was out of the way i hope you find what holding it in there
-
Did you take the cross member out all the way if you check on the back of the tranny bracket there is a tab that hold the exhaust pipe up that was were mine was hung up. Same thing happen to me the 4x4 tranny fell out and the 2wd would not move so I bet it is that tab.

Some of the guys say that a ZJ steering set up will work and then you can you there TRE just a thought. That way you end up with a bigger better set up or you could upgrade to something like Rock Kawler set up. My plan is running the ZJ set up until I get the money for the Rock Kawler set.

If you look on the gears it should have what gear are in it. If they are 4.11 then great you have upgrade. Now what I would do is call the damn junk yard and tell them that you want a 4.11 front axle to match the rear since there dumb a$$es can’t read and you want it at a he!! of a price like 50-100 and the upgrade the front and add a same kind of lift like 3-4 lift and be happy. If you do ask for a front end I would pop the diff. off in the lobby and would let the gear oil run all over the place check the gear and if there right I would then just leave mess and all as I walked out the door I would say thanks and have a nice. Just my thought but that is what I would do.

About time for this :D I just want to see some finished.........well more complete pics if it is any thing like the black one then this one well be a nice tiny bother to that one. -
They seem to balanced out alright I think maybe why I got them so cheap is there 10x15 and nobody want to run that wide of rim on the trail but at that price I will just have to be careful when I air down that’s all. But yeah I think there alright I mean they don’t seem to be bent and beat all to hec. The kid and the wife bought me those for x-mas.

Traded my 89 Caviler today to the junk yard for my 8.8 got the leafs and disc brakes. The car was junk and the wife wanted it gone so win/win makes the wife happy and me. Plus my stainless steel front brake lines showed up in the mail plus with the great weather that we have been having here it just been a great day. You guy weren’t lying when you said that 8.8 was heavy. More pic later when I start building the 8.8 so until then -
that would be the one thanks
-

Thanks guys. I my have a line on a 8.8 with an Aussie locker installed I might have to pimp my self out to get the it but if the price is right i am going to what i can to get.

i have a question on the same page so I don't want to hijack this thread but i read some where that you could take a front drive shaft and make it work on the rear using the two joint is this true and I will start a new thread if this goes of on its own just wanted to ask. watson

I went over on NAXJA and did a search and pulled that # up and went down to the dealer and handed him the number. He look at me like I was weird or smoking something good and asked "were did you get that number" like it was top secret or something. But I got the bolts so I am happy I will be buying one more set to throw in to the truck. For spears just incase I need them. Plus are you done with the 8.8 swap and if so is there any thing that you would of done different if so what? Plus any thing to watch out for that I could run into.
-
I will get pic of the drive shaft and it does fit and it looks great. Plus here is the flange bolts part# Ford P/N N800594-S100 2.19 a peice I guess that one guy had the wrong number.
-
The flange that I have has Ford stamped on it so I think it is the Ford Ranger because the guys at Car Quest and I did some research on the net and they came up with that you could use the ford ranger flange. I am going to find that link and I’ll post it up here I just thought it would be a cheaper solution and one that you can find at most junk yards.
-
What size are these bolts fine or course
-
well the dealer ship wanted like 14.00 per bolt. so i guess it to the junk yard i go
