Quick advice (used trans)
ftpiercecracker1 replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't want to leave this thread hanging. This was my last correspondence with the seller. I have heard nothing back from him. I take that to mean he does not want to divulge that information. -
Quick advice (used trans)
ftpiercecracker1 replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
In months of searching the entirety of the state of FL this is only the second nv3550 that has come up for sale on CrL. The other one had been rebuilt, but was popping out of gear. That guy was asking $450. Is the problem with the TJ shifter simply a matter of swapping out the stick or is it the actual location of the pedestal? -
Quick advice (used trans)
ftpiercecracker1 replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes. . . . . . and yes it's true they do have quite a few for sale on there, but I'm leary of buying a trans that I can't lay my hands on, a used one especially. Same goes for any big ticket/easy to get screwed on, auto part. Engine, trans, diff, t-case, etc. I've dealt with enough slimeball, shifty eye'd, junkyard thieves to be extremely cautious. You have to take accept their word and simply hope they are honorable people. Even if they are honorable and the item was damaged in transit or they send the wrong part by accident the hassle of sending it back, exchanging money, trying to get/find the right part has kept me from going to CarPart.com route. I think that qualifies as a rant. Rant over. FPC. -
Bottom line, I need a new trans, been searching for a long time. Need quick advice from someone with nv3550 experience. At $250 this probably won't last long. Trying to find a decent manual transmission, at any price, is like hunting hen's teeth. Don't know if this problem is easily remedied or more systemic. https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/pts/d/jeep-transmission-2001/6379113977.html Thanks, FPC EDIT: contacted owner, still available as of 10:40pm 11/8. Has 140k

Since we are now sharing plumbing stories I have one of my own. A few years ago I was working for a apartment complex as a helper/grounds keeper. During a punch out I had to remove the escutcheon plates from a bathtub. Unfortunately no one had warned me that in this particular design the handles were also part of the valve assembly. So there I was crouched in the tub removing the first handle when I started to get that gut feeling something wasn't right. An instant later the handle and valve guts shot out followed by a geyser of water that could have rivaled Old Faithful. There is no plugging it with my finger and I don't have a clue where the main is. Looking like I had just jumped out of the pool I had to rush downstairs, oh yeah I forgot to mention this is a two-story building, to find my supervisor to get the main shut off. All was well in the end, but I hope not to have a repeat anytime soon. FPC

Problem solved! One side of double pole breaker was smoked. But there is still a mystery. When I tested the breaker across the poles, one lead on each lug, I read 0v, BUT they read 120v individually, from one lug to ground. The only thing I can figure is the one side of the double pole breaker that was still functioning was sending power all the way through the hot water heater circuit and making its way back to the bad side of the breaker.

So here's the deal. I have a 2 year old whirlpool hwh ALL. COMPONENTS. BRAND. NEW. and still no hw. I have verified 120v, via multimeter, on all legs/contacts. Both incoming power legs have 120v Both elements pass continuity test, 13ohm. Elements pass grounding test, infinite resistance between hwh body and elements. breaker is on, duh. Tank is full of water, 100% certain. Out of ideas. fpc

Scavenger hunt! this month: guess the package!

I would definitely have submitted a picture, but my truck is immobile. -
The interior is hideous, but other wise; Wow that thing is so cool! Lockers front and rear too! The only thing missing is a turbo diesel. Its obviously a big number, but i have absolutely no idea what its worth. What do you think its really worth? 40k? I figure more than 30k less than 60k
-
I am strongly leaning towards getting a tundra as well, if I can find one in my price range. Its a really well proportioned truck IMO. My parents have an 00 model that just clicked over 310k and that truck has seen some serious abuse and neglect. Oh the stories I could tell. Only ever had to replace the radiator once and a window switch, that's it, besides the normal tires and brakes. I'll report back when and if I find something. FPC

I'm in the market for a new-to-me truck. I'm just a handyman so I don't need anything beyond a 1500. $4000 is going to be my maximum if buying from a private party, more if I go through a buy-here-pay-here. Which is another question I have. Would you rather go private party and maybe not get quite as nice a truck or go buy here pay here and make payments on a nicer vehicle? I like first gen tundras, zr2 s10, old Mazda trucks, don't know much about Rangers. Here are a couple trucks that have caught my attention. https://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/cto/6305419863.html https://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/6333810449.html https://spacecoast.craigslist.org/cto/6313939928.html

A Comanche is just like any other vehicle, if maintained it will serve you well. I've driven my MJ from south FL to TN and back many times. Once pulling a fullsize bass boat with a huge azz topper on the bed loaded to the gills with my crap and then from South FL to LA (state) and back. Never left me stranded. Though I wouldn't recommend one for an older person for their lack of safety features.

Most likely to be a brute conversion.

Alzheimer's is so cruel. I have an uncle in his late 70s who has it, physically he is in terrific shape. No medications, perfect eyesight, good strength, but he just can't remember a whole lot anymore. Thankfully my Uncle is a cheerful soul with an abdominal spirit. I understand those suffering from Alzheimer's have the potential to become quite nasty/hateful as the disease progresses. As has been stated already, spend time with him, if you can, while you can and while he still knows who you are, but don't beat yourself up about it. You still have a life of your own to live. An assisted living facility will help a lot as this progresses. I'm sorry your relationship with your father was an unpleasant one. I wish it could have been better. On a side note: My father is turning 60 this weekend. Thankfully he is in excellent health, but it does little to comfort me. Years pass like minutes it seems and I know all to well I will be dealing with the same thing in not to long. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you want to look at it, I have an extremely close relationship with my father. On top of that he is also the primary male figure in four different families. I could go on, but this is about you and your time of need not me. Stay strong, be thankful for the good times and take more pictures. FPC.

What do you mean by "real roof"? Is it a soft top? If it is, I would imagine they will offer a hardtop just like they do for all Wranglers. Even so, why would it matter if it is a soft top or not so long as it doesn't leak? Is a solid roof that important for an effective light duty pickup? I would probably prefer a hard top too, but even if it's not it wouldn't stop me from buying one. Also, from what I have been reading we probably have a lot to thank AEV, makers of the Brute truck kits, for as far as the design of this truck. Apparently Jeep worked quite closely with them during development.

Did someone order a two jeep pickup? Que the music . . . . . "At laaaaaaaast mmmy LOOOOOOVE has come along.. .. . . . ." I. can't. freakin. wait. More info http://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/our-latest-2019-jeep-jt-pickup-info-and-preview-images.1119/

I love scavenger hunts. I won't always be able to participate, but i would be willing to give it a go.

That is a long bed on that truck right? I found a 92 2dr xj for $650 within 10min of looking. Bad motor, trans not far behind, but body is in pristine condition. If only . . . . . .

I think its freakin sweet. I absolutely love the concept. I actually like the color too, pair that with some black interior and hot d**n. The wagoneer front clip doesnt hurt either. I wouldn't know what to do with all that extra cab room, but I too am very curious how they grafted the two chassis together. Would kill to see more pics/get more build information.

I've seen this picture before, but I have always wanted to know if it is legitimate. I gives me vertigo just looking at it.

I can scarcely believe no one has posted this yet. I know we've got some memebers in Texas. How are things down there? Waters starting to recede? I've watched a ton of videos and the amount of flooding is no joke. I was also impressed at the civility on display from all creeds and colors. Very little looting as opposed to katrina, dear God what a sh*t show. I would be there in an instant, but since I live in south FL, I will be occupied with Irma. Cat 4 as of tonight and her path is still unpredictable. I've been through about half a dozen hurricanes by this point. House has never even come close to flooding. I live in a close knit, secluded community, out in the sticks. I have several boats, and most importantly a 4x4 MJ so i don't have much to worry about. Unless it's a cat 5 I think I'll stick around and enjoy the ride.
