:rotf: Wasn't me...I got it in an email from a friend down in South Florida. Yeah, sure ya did Brent :D . Now we know what you're doing with your time off :brows: .

Nice going on the house there jeff. That lift is scary as hell. Someone is definitely going to be killed. Those anchor bolts are small to begin with, then add in having them installed and removed X times. (and never properly torqued). A vehicle would HAVE to have stabilizing jacks used under that thing. Oh well, Darwin at work again.

Changing gauges in 89 MJ, auto on column
aemsee replied to Shane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Had the same experience putting a full cluster from a 88 in to my 87. Had mounting posts. IIRC, had to modify something to be able to use them though. But it worked. And Hornbrod is correct, a dremel tool is your friend. -
does that have dual batteries? one frozen, shorting out internally? how many amps is the starter drawing? maybe starter just took a crap

Damn, those are prices I like to see! THANKS!

That is another reason for the CV shaft swap. Although my CAD has always worked perfectly.

Thanks Brent. I'll look in to them. Who else has an inexpensive favorite?

This shouldn't be an issue. I have a very restrained right foot, so I can control the urge to unleash all that 2.5 liter auto fury upon my drive train. :D .

Looking for opinions on shocks. Going to go with 3" coils and new rear leaf packs. Needing 3" shocks. Had some Rancho's 9000's 5 way shocks on my ZJ. They were noizy as hell, and pretty stiff even on the lowest setting. Mostly a DD/ weekend kind of truck. No heavy offroad here. Don't want to spend more on the shocks than the truck cost, either :D . I know I'm not the only one on a budget. (read as cheapskate).

Like a GF threatening you with a tire iron causing you to get out of the vehicle 400 miles from home and start hitch hiking with 34 dollars in your wallet. Hmmm, sounds like you speak fromm experience there Sam  ?

I just bought two CV joint shafts for the D30 in my truck. I don't wheel it hard and they are probably stronger than the stock little joints anyhow. Hopefully I can score an affordable 21 spline 242 T-case to go along with them soon. The pinion bearing is a little noisey in the 30 so I might as well do it all at once. It'll be nice to be able to actually drive this thing on the road in 4wd someday without it hopping around corners. Anyone do this switch? How'd it drive?

There are still a few stations that have non ethanol gas around here. Or at least they don't have stickers on the pumps :D . Actually I have done alcohol content tests on a couple and they were indeed alcohol free. I did notice in Fl that EVERY station had the "may contain" sticker. I was teaching how to test for alcohol content for fuel class. Had a gallon of 10% ethanol in a plastic fuel container. Started out at 10% for the first class. After 4 weeks in the can, the gas was barely registering any alcohol. Container always sealed and kept in temp controlled room of 70 degrees F. The alcohol was vaporizing and leaching vapors out of the plastic can. So, if you start with 10 gals of gasohol, let it sit in your truck for a couple of weeks, you will be down to about 9 gals. total fuel. That won't help the mileage! Gotta luv the govnmt. Don't think I'll ever have the opportunity to say that! :D I had to Google Javelina. It's real name is Peccary (aka; Javelina). Javelina is a Spanish/ Portuguese mixure of a name for them. I say... Fuzzy Pig... Bet that would go good with some BBQ sauce and beer!

I'm running the same size and my speedo is off 4 MPH +/-. Remember when you calculate MPG that you have actually traveled further than the odometer shows so your MPG will be slightly better.

Now wouldn't you really rather go down THERE and work on it?

They don't dig in like the MT's that i have on my Comanche. You're right, we don't get much snow around the Puget Sound, but it does happen. In fact, the beginning of Jan. we all drove around in over a foot of snow that lasted a few weeks. The NW is also known for many Mountains and high elevations, huge amount of precipitation... so we might know a bit about extreme weather conditions. I can't speak for Kansas... You're on your own. Yeah, my sister has lived in Seattle for 25 years. I was just givin' her crap about your weather. :D .

That's some darn nice pricing. Anymore XJ boosters in that yard?

87 2.5 AW4 4x4 4.56 gears 235/75/15 tires. btwn 20 and 23. Mixed driving. I drive it like a little old lady though. If you have an option, don't buy the gas with the ethanol in it.

Finished up my jumbo cup holder. Had a mini console left from my 88 4spd. Painted it black, added a cut out textured piece of fiber board, a large PVC coupler with a handle slot cut out and presto change, a cup holder. And yes, I like the BIG cup of coffee.

How thick are the replacement shims you put in?

Engine compartment light?
aemsee replied to Cdn Glenwood's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The light pulls out about 10 feet (?) and has a magnetic side to it so it can be attached to any metal part, kind off cool.Hey, I have one of those! :D Hey Joe, did I sell one to you? Have you installed it? Is it working OK? Yes you did. No I haven't. Don't know. :D Been too cold here to worry about underhood light. Just finished my custom cup holder and fixed my interior lights. -
Kansas, Washington?? You guys don't get SNOW! :D I have buddies that swear by them as well. Just never took a shine to them myself. Thought they liked to float instead of dig in.

Unless you have a pressure guage hooked up just don't "add another can of Freeze 12 to top it off". Over pressure can damage the AC components. Freeze 12 and 134 will not cool as well as r12 on older systems because it requires higher pressure. That is why even on some newer vehicles the ac is not as cold at idle as it is when your going down the road making higher rpms. Also, it should take less of the two than R12 because it is lighter. If you are going to have it evac'd, most shops will not do it if they know something other than R12 is in the system as it will contaminate their recovery equipment. Only reason I thought about using Freeze 12 was that a complete kit with dye, sealant, gauge, adapters and gas was about $65. I wouldn't have to change anything other than the nozzles to do it. Was going to use it on the 86 because it couldn't do any worst than it is already. 134's oil is not compatible with the r12 oil or o-rings. It will cause slug build up in the system and will eat away at the o-rings. Now the 88 will get the full conversion since the system was open during the build. New o-rings, the components have been flushed, and a new filter/dryer. I'm no expert on this by any means so someone smack me down if I'm wrong. Sounds like you have a good handle on it. Carry on

Glad you're OK. I've driven alot of vehicles with BFG A/T's on them in the snow. I think they are terrible in the white stuff. They don't seem to clean out very well.
