Awesome thanks. My plan was MT springs in the rear since my old springs are saggy and leaning on the drivers side, v8 zj coils up front, shackles in the rear, and spacers up front to level. Partially for looks, mainly to have a bit more fun offroad, without going into a big lift since i've only got a 2.hate under the hood. nothing major till i decide on an engine, but no reason why i can't have some fun now . :MJ 1: .
-
Awesome! Did you get 2" of lift out of them?
-
Seen more than once that we can use chevy drop shackles to lift the rear of the mj ~2". Does anyone know if these will work? Something that caught my eye getting some bedliner at oreilly's...2" drop shackles for an 88-08 chevy pickup/van.

Does anyone have any blueprints for, or places to buy, front bumper brackets to build a winch bumper? Preferably using as many existing holes as possible, perhaps like for a front hitch? Ive found prints for rear bumper/rear hitch/ front tow points, but I'd like to have more holes plotted out on the print than $500MJs tow points in the DIY section.

Mines bright orange...but unless someone took it for a joy ride, it hasnt left the state in the past 26 years.
-
Thanks for the correction. I could've sworn i read that MJ's weighed in around 2800-3100lbs, but can't seem to find that anywhere now. I'll have to hit a scale sometime...But general consensus is an 8k winch is plenty for jeep recovery?
-
Thats awesome. Now you have the two sexiest sets of wheels ever put on jeeps. I'm jealous.

Since 4wd.com is having a sale, and I've been wanting to buy a winch for a long while now, figured now is as good a time as any to buy one. can't really afford a Warn, don't want to go with a harbour freight...whats everyones opinion on smittbilt winches, specifically the XRC8 and the X20? I've always heard that you should get a winch with twice the capacity of your vehicles weight, don't think my MJ will ever weigh more than 4,000 lbs. Leaning towards the X20 since its waterproof and has a lower gear ratio, as well as 3/8" cable instead of 5/16". Anyone own either, know someone, opinions about smittybilt as a company? It'll probably get used the most for pulling my little brothers XJ out of all the holes he likes to get stuck in, since my 2.hate can't do it...yes i should put the money towards an engine, but blah blah. Anyway, thanks for any input guys.

The 8.8 is roughly 1.25" narrower Here an axle is $200 out the door, but that may be more worthwhile...I've been reading and youtubing gear changes and it doesn't seem like it should require any outside help.
-
Gears are cheaper, and it's the cad axle I already have in the mj. Why no 8.8 for you? Just because it's a ford axle or is there more to it?
-
Is there anything wrong with putting used gears in a d30? Obviously I'll be going over every gear to make sure there's no issues and what not, but assuming they're not chipped or cracked, should they be safe? And I can't find where I read it, but is it true that all 2.5/5spd xjs came with 4.10s? Hunting down a limited slip/4.10 8.8 for the mj and don't want to drop $500 on new d30 gears
-
The later 2nd gen rams with a cummins had better transmissions, particularly the 6spd, and 4wd has solid axles front and rear.
-
H3R3SQ didn't build those, the previous owner did. There's a link in his thread to the po's build that goes into it I believe. Afaik, Mnkyboy built his own too, maybe he'll chime in
-
Thanks! Guess my leathers may just need a ton of ingenuity to make tilt....when they get here, I'll tear into it, and hopefully with success do a write up! Got a handful of 2dr xjs in the local pnp. Time to pull parts and get crazy
-
That makes sense ....just completely separate seat from hardware and just swap the cushions, more or less. I'll keep searching DIY, but i think I saw it in a build thread.....
-
Getting a pair of mint xj leather buckets from a friend in texas. I swear up and down I saw a thread on here before about someone making regular buckets into tilt buckets..but can't for the life of me find it. Anyone shed some light on this? I can deal without tilt, but I'd rather not...and I really want black leather buckets.

Went through 4 thermostats in a 5.9 ram before one actually worked right. They can be bad from the start, or just gunk from the cooling system causing them to stick open. Annoying buggers.
-
Truck looks good! Now I'm considering getting rid of my ugly orange... So is the 5.9 all that silverstars came on? Because I'd do anything short of murder for a set.

Tow Hook Bracket/frame Stiffener

Look up $500MJs front recovery in the DIY section. If you can cut plate and drill holes you can make your own, very simple -
Any chance you can repost the pics? Only one I can see, through 3 different internet connections is the blueprint for the plates. I'm 99% sure I understand, just like 100% more.

No snow out there in KS? We're white all across MO...from the Ozarks up to Rockport last i heard...Although here in the KC area, all the snow is on the street. If its not paved its not white...kinda ironic.
-
Definitely not. What would be best is for you to just trade me your j20 for my mj, that way you will still be welcome :)
-
Cool thanks. I did away with all the vacuum stuff for cruise control since it was missing components and I'm never on the highway enough to need it, figured I'd switch to the one piece cable since I have to replace it anyway
-
Anyone know the length of a non cruise control speedometer cable, in an 86 2.8/ax5/4x4 mj? Got my first speeding ticket, in 4 years of driving, so I think I should probably get around to fixing this.
