    Rusted Out MJ

Those bedsides make me hurt inside. Box around the holes in the frame and keep driving it. Or just bring it to MO and I'll put it to good use!
  2. not that simple, auto part store wants to know the engine id code weather it's a T or a U[Redwolf Go to a different auto parts store. Tell them you need gaskets for an 86 2.8 Comanche. Most people do not know what their engine code is. That's why they have computers behind the counter.
  3. Check the windshield right around the VIN plate. Nice. :laughin: Yep. But it shall serve me well, and breathe new life into the mj! Pretty excited to get back to working on it again. And this time I'm doing something worthwhile, not fighting my craptastic 2.HATE
  4. Is it that simple? I see this thread going to at least 8 pages.............Yep, it's that simple. Since the only difference between old and new motor is going to be age, all the gaskets for the original motor amc put in it will work for the swap. And no, I wasn't explaining that for your benefit cruiser. Just tossing it out there.
  5. Picked it up. Turns out it's the same xj I looked at for a DD last week, guy just gave it to His dad for parts and a questionable title for his 98. But I know the engine and trans are both good since I drove it last Wednesday. Need to figure out some wiring issues, then going to start tearing down both for the swap
  6. Just get the gasket kit for your Comanche. Go to Oreillys. Ask for a gasket kit for an 86 2.8 Comanche
  7. I've been planning on it originally since I bought the truck 3 years ago. But then again the plan has gone from 4.0 to Mercedes diesel, to 318, 360, 4.0, diesel, and back to 4.0. Couldn't make up my mind, then $100 xj pops up and made my mind up for me!
  8. Awesome, thanks neohic. Picking it up tonight, so should be a fun week this week starting the tear down of donor and mj!
  9. Yes I know the woes of swapping a 4.0 into an 86, done more than enough research to be comfortable with it. However I know that 96s can be wiring headaches due to being the go between year for obd1 and obdII. Is this any reason to avoid using a 96 donor xj? My goal is to swap everything dash-forward into the mj, and the donor was $100, so I'm getting it regardless, for parts and scrap for my brothers xj if nothing else
  10. it has 4.10 gears and it does great for me on highway and mild offload use! I was skeptical at first ten I just put them on and it worked great! It's the D35 I'm worrying about! Good to know...a buddy of mine just dropped off a set of 32s for my mj, guess theyre going on now!
  11. Truck looks good! Hope my mj looks half as nice when I'm done....
  12. Stock gearing in that? My 2.hate doesn't like turning the 205s on my mj, can't imagine what it would be like with 33s
  13. I've got one already, but just wanted to attest to Steve's quality and service, Top notch! First design had a flaw in the rear corners, I made mine fit, but when someone pointed it out, Steve offered all of us who ordered one a free replacement because of the flaw! I never even asked for one, I was happy with the first, but Steve sent one anyway! Great service, and the quality is awesome as well!
  14. That's Set89's mj, he has a build thread here, "just charge it"
  15. Any chance you could measure the length/width of the skid, and take a picture of the rear mount?
  16. Does anyone have the dimensions and mounting specs for an oe front skid plate? I want to build one, but unsure of how to mount it.
  17. Have you thought about the Weber 32/36 DGEV Carb instead of the Rochester junk carb?My oe carb had a float support(?) break on the inside, can't buy a new one according to all my google searches of the number on the top of it. The adapter plate I made is for a marine carb off a mercury my uncle gave me for free. I looked into the weber, but I refuse to spend that much money on the 2.8. The long and short of it is, the motor isn't worth it. It's not even worth the time I spent making the adapter plate, but I miss driving it so that's what I'm doing. I'll take my $300 for a weber and save it for a parts xj to do a 4.0 swap.
  18. Good to know, thanks Eagle. I found the specs and part numbers for the stock bolts, but so far I haven't been able to find them. I'm putting in new springs (hell creek metric ton), so I'm planning on just cutting all the bolts off so I don't have to fight the Missouri rust to get them off.
  19. Awesome, thanks for the info. Now I just need to find some shackle bolts that aren't dealer price. Fastenal doesn't have the right length, and being in MO, bolts under vehicles don't come off in one piece.
  20. I'll check tractor supply...but what about the size I need?
  21. Trying to find the right size u bolts for my rear springs, and so far I've seen 2.5x9", 2.562x9", 2.62x9", and 2.75x9" u bolts recommended on various forums. Does anyone know which of these is the right size? Mine arent coming off in one piece, no way no how, plus i don't want to re-use them anyway. Any help is appreciated.
  22. Like 87Warrior, I'm off i70 in Independence, MO, basically Kansas City. Can't offer much, but I can show you good bbq
  23. In the process of putting a simple carb on my 2.8 to get it back on the road while i keep looking for a donor xj. Just milled out an adapter plate from a piece of 5/8" aluminum plate. Milling the plate down to 15/32". Just enough room for the studs. Sitting on the intake. Just gotta figure out the throttle linkage, and what emissions and vacuum crap i can rip outta the engine bay.
  24. Weird. I couldn't find it when I looked through my posts. Thanks for finding it th
  25. If you go through St Louis, you should stop in Kansas City. Best BBQ there is. If you've never had Gates, you don't know BBQ.
