To Stroke Or Not To Stroke... Like Thats A Question
mpace6a replied to MancheKid86's topic in The Pub
From the pics, the body doesn't look bad at all. Should be a fairly easy fix I would think, especially since you do it for work! Sounds like a great truck too! -
Comanche Coulda Killed Me, (Some Pics Not For The Weak Stomach)
mpace6a replied to MancheKid86's topic in The Pub
Glad to hear you're ok! Looks like my uncles knee when he had a bit of an accident while tuning a chainsaw....jumped off the tailgate of his truck and caught his knee. Future paint sounds awesome! Buy your old mj back and make a chop top! -
Why Is It So Hard For People To Spell 'comanche'?
mpace6a replied to johnny quest's topic in The Pub
Thanks, I haven't tried that spelling yet! -
I'm assuming its just water from all the recent rain. May have a slow leak..not sure, Something i'll have to check out tomorrow.
-
I would be more inclined to find clean, not running, than running and rough. Hell I payed $1000 for my mj because the body was solid and the interior was nice, but it had a blown 2.hate in it.
-
Hasn't leaked any for months, since I replaced the distributor o-ring. That was the lowest transmission bolt on the drivers side. The next one up looked like it was just dipped in old oil, not milky or foamy like the picture.
-
In the process of pulling my transmission, because it needs a new mount, slave cylinder(old nuts are stripped), and need to run a new clutch line. Got the first two bolts that go through to the block off, and the threads on both were covered in oil, with the lower bolt being really milky, like so: IS this anything to worry about? I'm guessing (hoping) that its just oil that leaked into the bolt hole when my distributor was leaking, but want to make sure its nothing important before putting them back in.

temp reading cold all the time could just be a stuck thermostat. Happened on my dodge, they have a failsafe that locks them permanently open if they get too hot.
-
I was getting a crazy loud clunk/pop for the longest time, thought it was my ball joints, replaced them and U joints, still there. Then i suspected the swaybar links, since the bushings were so worn the drivers side was rubbing a groove into the tracbar mounting bracket. Replaced those, still there. Tie rods are next.....

'86 Rpm Issues... Way Too High For 65?
mpace6a replied to xjrev10's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
. That just cannot be. . Think about it - engine is coupled with direct gearing to the ground via drivetrain and tires. RPM is always directly proportional to ground speed (minus maybe a tiny slippage error between tires and pavement along with an even tinier clutch slippage error). Tachometer must be in error, possibly speedometer as well. Like Jim said earlier - check against a known good instrument. No speedo. Hasnt worked for the past 4500 miles or so. GPS is what my speed is based off of, checked between two at that time. Tach being off i can believe, because the engine screams at 3000 rpm (according to tach) like its redlining. . Bingo. . Speedo is GPS surrogate, therefore tach must be off. Whats confusing, is that, up to high speeds, tach seems quite accurate. Then again i could also be remember wrong...that was several months ago, and no i can't go past 35 mph without getting death wobble...so i'll have to fix that, find an empty downhill highway with some tailwind and try again. -
Id maybe go 1000 for it, depending on how it runs. Body is alot straighter than I was expecting.
-
can't see the pics, but if the body's rough 1000 is overpriced (here in MO anyway). Bed damage or any cab damage thats not fixed by replacing with xj body panels is a huge strike against price. but as far as engines go, just get a 3.4 out of a firebird or camaro and swap it in with an ax5 or ax4.

'86 Rpm Issues... Way Too High For 65?

My 2.8 5spd 4x4 spins ~2300 rpms consistently at any speed above 55 and lower than 93mph, since that's where it tops out. I doubt I have the power to spin any more in 5th gear. -
That visor is ugly too...you should just give it to me ;)

^^lolBeen real busy with work guys, that and any time I get some free time it rains again. Jeeps been parked for the past 2-3 weeks because I haven't had time to fix the slave cyl or leaky line. Don't dare take my dd ram down there, it slides around on wet pavement, it would wind up like that axle if I try getting down there with it

Supposedly a lot of rifles and armored vehicles as well. Bigger than humvees, smaller than MRAPs...don't remember what they said they were. Saw it and though..damn, if they get one, I want one too!.Second amendment says you can have whatever you can afford so that you can practice and maintain a state of readiness in fulfillment of your patriotic duty to defend your free nation. Funny how there are restrictive laws contrary to that constitutional guarantee though, eh? I always thought that restrictive laws were unconstitutional, especially given the obvious nature of the 2nd. Although like many i fear our government is well past being "for the people", so the laws make sense for them.

High Fuel Economy Engine Swap Options?
mpace6a replied to Oyaji's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I believe this was directed at me. Regardless, i love it. -
I'm gonna look into speedglas for my next, whenever my brother gets into welding ill give him my old hf hood, keep the miller in the truck and get another for home or work if I'm still in a shop
-
Yea, i went with the miller 1600i titanium series. just a standard 4x5 shade hood, but the shade flips up, it has a built in grind shield. little on the heavy side for a hood, but i didnt notice when i was burnin some scrap together last night. so far i like it, lets see if it lives up to be as tough as theyre advertised!

Looking For Advice -Wisdom On 2.8 /4.0 Swap
mpace6a replied to banjobill80's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
From what I've found online, the non HO version of the 4.7 weighs in at 438lbs. and the 5.9 is somewhere around 500lbs, supposedly below. Anyone have any experience with a dodge 4x4 5spd going into an xj/mj? ' For a young fella with ants in his pants looking for power and torque to give him max acceleration, weight is a factor. Shaving off weight is often a better way to gain acceleration than simply adding power. (An even better way would be to go out and buy a sports car instead - but to each his own...) . Don't look at me - I am the guy looking for a sensible diesel swap - I certainly ain't in no hurry! :D Never been a fan of cars...always had trucks . :MJ 1: . Still..diesel is always a kool factor...I still have my external slave ax15 just sitting around, if i can find a om617 that someone doesnt want my right arm and first born son for, it may get mated up and dropped into an mj too!
