  1. I had similar problems like that in past. Check the engine speed sensor. The engine would crank but won't fire cause the sensor wasn't working. Just my $.02
  2. Follow up to my brake light problem. I checked the ground on the rear tail light. That was ok. I traced the wires from the fuse box to the brake light switch then to where it disappears in the steering column. Traced from the tail lights back the other direction. I deternined it was the turn signal switch. Bought one at PepBoys. Just replaced it. NOW I HAVE BRAKE LIGHTS!!! This forum is great to help diagnose and fix my issues. Now I want to get my Comanche restored.
  3. Here is my brake light problem. My turn signals work, both R and L, my flashers work. All front and rear. Running lights work, as well. My brake lights don't work. Replaced bulbs and brake light switch. Still no brake lights. We should I start to diagnose?
  4. Yours is a Laredo - top of the line. I was simply stating that the fold-away mirrors were not a Laredo-only option. All model trims could get those. Do you have any pictures of the interior? Another thing I've noticed is that all Laredo's come with red or tan interior. Here is the interior. I always though of it as brown, but I guess it would be tan. Tim
  5. The bumpers are chrome with black caps. One thing I have not seen on other Comanches are the swing are mirrors. Mine are original equipment, but most of the others have the lower profiles. Does anyone else have these mirrors? Tim Yea, those are the "towing" mirrors. My '88 SporTruck had those, so it wasn't a top of the line option - could be had even on the basest of base models. It came with AC, cruise control, AM/FM Cass, power windows & locks, off road package. Not the typical "base" model. As for the color, it is the original - minus the clear coating. It has thin, red stripping down the sides and on the hood. The tailgate "Jeep" name is a sticker, not painted. I want to spend the $$$ to restore it. Keep the original color. Tim

  7. My Lorado '87 has the long bed.
  8. Forgive my ignorance, but what is "QD cleaner"? I have had a mas cyl leak previously, and I believe currently, too. I am also having multiple electrical issues - radio has power but not sound from speakers, fan blower doesn't work, brake lights don't work. I have felt behind the fuse box and it is damp. I plan on pulling it off and looking at it. What do I clean it with? Tim
  9. I get 400 +/- on a tank. That is mostly commuting back and forth to work and the auto parts store  I can get 450 ++ on highway driving. 87 4.0, 5 spd, 23.5 gal. Tim
  10. Hello Everyone. I found this site a few months ago and have been snooping around. I finally signed up. Its an '87 4.0L, 5sp, 4wd, Longbed, 260k original miles. My wife bought it out of college new. I started driving it in '91 when she moved up to a Cherokee. It became a spare vehicle when I got a '97 Wrangler. Both the Cherokee and Wrangler are long gone, but the Comanche LIVES ON! About two years ago I started to drive it regularly. It is showing its age - lots of aches and pains. I am wanting to get it restored to (almost) original condition. While I have the apptitude and physical ability to do most of the work, I do not have the time, space or tools to take on that task. I am asking for advise/suggestions on what to look for in a shop to do the work. Should I find a shop that specializes in restorations, specifically Jeeps? Can a small local mechanic take on this project? Can it be done in phases - engine and drive train, mechanical, body and paint? I live near Frederick MD, so if you know of a shop in MD or southern PA, let me know. Thanks Tim
