Aftermath of a Dead Alt.
Kenosha Warrior replied to Kenosha Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
less than 20mi I can tell you that. a quick run around town. never going out of 3rd gear. Ill give it a bit, its sat for over a week without power/being driven. Ill give the fuses a once over too. -
I just replaced my alternator and battery because I soaked my alty while driving through a lot of *deep* puddles. well. my wipers, lights and heat are all working nicely now, same with my new alt and battery. nice and powerful. My only problem now, is that my upshift light, my seatbelt light and buzzer, my brake warning light and all those lights in taht little area aren't coming on anymore. no more seatbelt buzzer. nothing. Even the Oil pressure and battery lights on the dash (idiot lights) that normally come on when you turn the key into the on position won't light up anymore. everything else is running hunky-dory.

a 2.5L would have what behind it? a 231?
-
whats the t-cases the 4.0 mj's would have? Ive got a 2.5, what one normally came behind that?

The 228 or 229 was what they were using as the 'Selec-Trac" option back then, and just like the NP242 Selec-Trac on the newer XJs, I don't think the option was offered with the 5-speed. So it's most likely an AX-5 with NP207, but as noted, it could be a T-5 tranny. ot I know. but whats the difference between the Selec-Trac and the Command-Trac

just to be safe, check the batt and alty. I know a few members that can vouch for this. its a real pain as it'll leave you stuck in the middle of nowhere if its not rememdied. -

Is it right on full, or way past? Are your wipers, heat, radio and anything else electronic working ok? Renix's don't like wonky power. if there's an issue with your alternator or battery, the fuel gauge won't read right, the heat and wipers will lag and your low beams will be extremely dim. if its right on full, well. mine doesn't work period so I just carry a 5gal jerry can in case of a run-out. -

yeah, it likes to move on its own haha. I'm doing piston rings, lower crank bearings and such in the summer so it should cure that. -

he plays hockey, and its all his little 8 and 9th grader friends. I get them back pretty nicely though, I'm head of the AV dept at school, we create all the movies and stuff for the school wide assemblies. nothing like a video of the school hockey team skating a practice in speedo's with David Hasselhoff's body. thats my payback. screw the physical stuff, mental is much more fun. Ill youtube it when I get my hands on my copy of it. -

Being an '87 I don't think I can get a factory build sheet that'll have accurate codes, but I'd be willing to bet a latte that my '87 SWB is factory original with the D44. I bought it from a girl whose father was the original purchaser. There is nothing about the truck to suggest that they ever did anything other than drive it, and maybe change the oil once every five years or so. I have to replace the driver's door window mechanism when I get the truck back on the road. Maybe I'll get lucky and find the original build sheet tucked inside the trim panel. ive heard of them beneath the seats as well... ithink (comancherob?)found his there. yepyep. under the drivers bucket or centre of the bench. -

mine will roll in 1,2,3 or 4. Rev is the only gear that will hold it. It was rocking about 4-5" back and forth when they pushed it. thing that makes me a little scared is that I'm on a sloped driveway at almost a 30 deg. slope. it was moving 6" in reverse and then back to its original position. christ I hate my brother and his friends. no respect for anyone else's property, they've taken out my mirrors, tail lights, dented the hell out of my pass. quarter panel, I can't have anything nice on my MJ because they yank it off, dent it, ect. They even took the window outta my dad's van when he first got it. -
my idiot brother and his friends are playing hockey in my driveway. The MJ is not moveable at the moment as its got no serpentine, alty, battery. Its got no ebrake so Ive got it sitting in reverse (AX-4 tranny) since I can't drive it out of the d-way. they want me to push it out, when I refused, they started pushing on the front, trying to roll it down the driveway. how much damage of possible could that do to my tranny?

No start/odd start
Kenosha Warrior replied to Kenosha Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Rebuild is not looking good right now. I can't get the damn pulley off. I'm going to call McKeowns Dodge/Jeep in the am, and carquest also to see if they have any in-stock or can order one on the ASAP.
