  1. Pretty simple -- opposite ends of the spectrum. The Eliminator was a top-end model, with bucket seats, center console, alloy wheels, the whole enchilada. The first year of the Eliminator, it was only offered in 2WD. The SporTruck was the base model. I have an '88. Bench seat, idiot lights, the ungly "station wagon" steering wheel. rubber floor mat instead of carpet, only one side mirror and it's a cheapie, screw-to-the-door type, not the XJ style, and base model 15x6 steel rims. my sportruck must be middle of the line. Its got both mirrors, the XJ style, but has the idiot lights, bench, but had the supersoaker carpet. How hard is it to switch a steering wheel? Ive got my hands on a interior-matching jeep wheel with the fake hex screws in it that I wanna put on.
  2. You're coming back to us Cole. you hvae fun, keep yourself safe, keep our boys safe. I may be a canadian, but y'know what. I respect them. It takes balls the size of a 4.0L to go over there and know you may not come home. Support the Troops. I'm against the war, but you guys need our support. Rock on, Jeep On, and Come home to us! -Rob
  3. Black? Ah. So look for blue or black, what engine do you have? I'm rockin' a 2.5L, as is cole.. so either his or mine have been replaced :)
  4. they are blue chunks of rubber about 3/4" thick. Normally right close to the ends of the wire.
  5. should be, I'm currently trying to track down a AX-5. I would highly appreciate a 5th gear on my 2.5L
  6. I'm looking for a gmail invite. just one, I had Gmail before, but forgot my password. anyone have an invite that I can take from them?
  7. My junk takes a slight beating because its in the drivway along with some arseholeish kids to play hockey. Lets just say the MJ makes a helluva Zamboni. nothing like flying backwards into the driveway, scaring the hell outta everyone.
  8. looks exactly like mine. the AX-4
  9. I grabbed a relay and switch from a junk pontiac that was in the shop at school, wired it all up with ground and power connected to the battery, but how I did this, I got sneaky, I have the stock clamps, with the 'tightening nut', so I crimped circular connectors to the wire ends, did a western union to a 15a fused line for power and a western union for a ground wire. and looped the circular connectors over the little threaded rod, tightened down the nut and voila. As for mounting the switch, I just tie-wrapped it to my steering column as I don't care what it looks like at the moment haha
  10. nope. stock sealed beams. and misaligned at that haha. After that new alternator and my new set of fuses, and wiring wrestling, everything is supah-brite now :brows:
  11. My thread for my ongoing buildy of my MJ. Time for some pics to start it off. Sorry for the blurryness, I got these while wearing sandals a tshirt and holey old boxer shorts.
  12. give Carquest or napa a shout. I got pads for my junk from them. Tell them its the D35 rear end in an '89 Comanche. Or tell them the smaller axle. Give Carquest a shout, they rule for MJ stuff, alot of Jeep stuff, acctually.
  13. oh well, that swap won't be for a while anyways
  14. na man. Williamsons, its a local insurance company. I don't care. Ive got a XJ to wheel haha and to 89 MJay, call into the office, sounds like your signal has gone for a dump. call in when it happens, tell them its all the time it goes intermittent and they'll fix you up aha
  15. yeah. I'm considering doing a 4.0 swap with cherokee parts. tcase and everyhing, but not the front axel, as my insurance would double as soon as I go 4x4. I found a 200xxx km 4.0 5spd. 231 xfer case but I couldn't care about that.
  16. 1 wire gm? I thought thats what it was hahah. oh well, its fine now, Ive got my fingers crossed.
  17. I work in a call centre, doin T/S for Time-warner Cable's RoadRunner internet. its a semi-decent job for a H/S sutdent, and it lets me drive the MJ haha anyone here from ohio (like 75% of the site :P) that has RR (or had Comcast/Adelphia) you've probably talked to me if you've called in for Tech support haha.
  18. I'm a call centre monkey, Sin. My desk drawer normally contains 24 cans of pop, :brows: some days I walk to work.. I drink alotta pop haha (work is a good 10kms from my house)
  19. Concrete baby!, my dad works at a concrete plant as a millwright, so most of the walkways and driveway fixes we have are concrete that he got from work haha.
  20. It's gotta be some loose connection under the dash. Maybe something that your foot can kick when you go for the brake peddle? Ahhhhh ... The "real" ignition switch is not where you put the key into the steering column. There's an operating rod down the column from the key cylinder to the actual switch, which is near the base of the steering column. I have heard of those shorting out. See if you can get access to look that over carefully. If there's a loose or partially fried connection, maybe you're sporadically nudging it with your brake foot. I had a rats nest of wires down by my brake pedal, which I moved outta the way, up into the dash. well, read my newest post in 'Alt Aftermath' thread and you'll see :)
  21. battery AND oil light don't come on when I turn the key on. Whoa whoa and whoa. just drove to work (sucks balls at 6am) but when I went out to start the MJ (which has been sitting since 6pm lastnight) my oil and battery lights came on when I turned the key, and my upshift and seatbelt and ebrake lights came on too. and my headlights were there, and my dashlights were bright as hell, my heat worked. And here's the kicker. it took a good long try with alot of pedal pumping to start it, slow slow crank over. I then drove less than a 1/4mi to the corner store to get some pepsi before going to work, in and out, start the mj. rolls over nice and fast. crank crank start. I'm dancing in my chair right now. I think it may have to do with all the 'searching' under the dash i did lastnight. looking for things that seemed out of place.
  22. battery AND oil light don't come on when I turn the key on.
  23. Oh man. I'm stumped. Seriously. I was driving home tonite. highbeams, windsheild wipers, no heat on but I had the radio going. about 5 minutes from home (~10 miles) my lights started to dim really badly. Eventually they went out, engine was still running, but no lights, I drove through the city with no tails/heads, brakelights still worked. Pulled in the driveway, it was barely running when I got home. I turned off the truck, and as I was getting out, accidentally smacked something under the dash. my dash lights started blinking. bright as hell. So I turned on my headlights, got my lights back. this is driving me up the wall. I can go for short trips, work and back and forth to school. Eagle, you mentioned something about checking for continuity on a certain wire? Anyone?
  24. Eagle, I'm going to take your word, and do it right. first I need to find out what is toying with me. Something has got to be shorting out and just sucking down all my power. I drove 40 miles today, and as I'm coming down my road, first gear and just coasting, everything went off. Radio, headlights, everything but the engine. How could I drive 40 damn miles, stop for an hour, start it back up, drive another 40 miles back and then in the last 8th of a mile, it does this.
