Engine Quest 0331 Head Questions

I wish I had the money to buy an Edelbrock head. -
Engine Quest 0331 Head Questions
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The new 0331 castings are reinforced in the crack prone areas to eliminate that issue, I've done research on peoples experience with them and they seem to be holding up really well. I have the new 0331 on the bench and made sure everything lined up properly for the install, it seems the only issue so far is the raised ports on the intake, I started blending in the ports today and everything seems to be going very good. -
Engine Quest 0331 Head Questions
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks cruiser,I know it’s a bit of an oddball but I’d rather have a brand new casting than rely on the shady machine shops around me to prep a used head, and it seems the 0331 head is the only one offered new by suppliers. -
I have a new Engine Quest (same as the Clear Water) head I'll be installing on my 89 Comanche soon, I know the ports are higher on the HO heads and my question were if it's necessary to port match the renix intake to the HO head? does any one have personal experience doing so with the cylinder heads sold by these suppliers? reason I ask is I'm not sure if there's enough material in the area that needs to be ground, thank you.

I need the hard lines that hook up directly to the AC Condenser between the flexible ones that are still available for replacement. I'm going to be using them for my 89 Comanche 4.0 ,If it makes a difference, thank you.

Water Pump Recommendation?
big66440 replied to CrustyBoy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I deleted my EGR years ago without any issues, depending on your states emission laws you may want to keep the parts you remove to reinstall them for inspection. -
2WD WJ knuckle swap for MJ?
big66440 replied to WranglerMangler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did this to my Comanche and yes I do recommend it, I have a 96 XJ dual diaphragm booster, steel braided brake lines, and WJ ( Akebono calipers) up front and my Comanche stops better than some of the newer cars I've driven -
What brand 02 sensor to buy?
big66440 replied to VorTekX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've had good luck with Bosch sensors (the old style with the white/ceramic body) you can still find them on Ebay, part number 12009. If I could make a suggestion, I would suggest making absolutely sure the circuit to and from the O2 heater circuit is in great condition including the O2 heater relay. I had an issue with the wiring on mine that was driving me crazy, I even added a "backup" ground similar to cruisers fuel pump "backup" ground setup and the issues were solved, the O2 sensor plays a HUGE role in the way these 4.0's run and idle. -
Brake upgrades - start with this
big66440 replied to ghetdjc320's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Yes, I swapped the calipers, spindles, rotors, lower ball joints and "half shafts" "dummy shafts" or what ever people want to call them from a 2WD WJ on to my 2WD MJ. If your MJ is 4WD you'll need a spacer to align the front U joints and wheel bearings properly ( JKS part number OGS930), I'm using Spidertrax WHS011 adapters to be able to use my original steel wheels with the 5x4-1/2 wheel bolt pattern. If you plan on using 15" diameter wheels there's a chance you may need to grind the caliper for clearance since WJ's came standard with 16" diameter wheels. -
Perfectly fine,I've had it blocked off for years.

[Renix] EGR Tube Fix
big66440 replied to Parei_doll_ia's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
COOL! Let us know how it works out for you, I have a Doug Thorley tri Y header I've been thinking about installing but haven't exactly because of this reason!!. By the way welcome to California! which part will you be moving to? -
You can block off the intake where the EGR itself bolts on, you can either make a block off plate using the gasket as a template or buy one, I was able to find a nice one on eBay.

4.0's favorite oil? (and change interval)
big66440 replied to brucecooner's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I use Mobil 1 or Napa full synthetic ( made by Valvoline) 10W-30 and the Napa gold oil filter # 1773, and do my oil changes every 6,000 to 6,500 miles. -
Very cool!! I had a 66 Coronet 2 door and I always wanted to do an "R/T" version of it and install the front grill and headlight assembly from a Charger, I'd love to hear this beast!!

Mishimoto gets my vote as well, on top of making a great radiator their customer service is top notch.

High Altitude CPS—Renix 2.5 Question now
big66440 replied to 89 MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You could modify a non high altitude easily as well, I did it on mine and haven't had any issues,BTW I highly recommend it! -
Thank you for the write up!! Do you feel confident these new lenses will endure and keep their “like new” look for years?
-
Mine always cranks any where from 6-10 seconds before it starts, I’ve done all of Cruisers tips and even installed the factory bypass for the CPS without any luck. Even if I prime the system a few times ( I’ve verified there’s fuel pressure with a gauge ) it doesn’t make a difference, funny thing is once the truck starts (even if it only runs for a few seconds) it starts up normally afterwards.

Oxygen Sensor heater issues
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Both the cap and rotor are grey and have brass posts/contacts, I'll be honest with with you but the fact that the cap says "Made in USA" makes me feel confident it's a quality piece, the rotor has no writing on it but it came in the same box as the cap so I'm assuming it's from the same manufacturer. I pealed off the electrical tape for the wires to the knock sensor, coolant temp sensor and oxygen sensor and found out all 3 wires for the oxygen sensor had been "repaired" at one point with very crappy looking soldered sections of wire beginning up close to the front of the valve cover, I re-soldered fresh new wires and replaced the connector as well as added an additional ground cable that grounds to the frame for the heater circuit. I noticed right off the bat the rich/lean fluctuations are happening quicker ( according to the REM) and the engine feels more responsive, I will keep you guys updated on this issue, thank you. -
Oxygen Sensor heater issues
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Cap, rotor and spark plugs are less than a month old (Duralast cap and rotor- made in USA and Champion 344 spark plugs RC12YC if I remember correctly). I’m thinking of adding an additional ground just for kicks. I’ve completed all of your Renix tips cruiser. -
Oxygen Sensor heater issues
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes I have, Based on the condition of the spark plugs on cylinders 3 and 6 I have quite a bit of oil consumption, I wonder if that could be causing the issue. -
Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone else has issues with the oxygen sensor heater circuit failing after just a few months of use? my 02 sensors (I've tried both Bosch and NTK) last only about 7-8 months and it's always the heater circuit that fails, any help would be appreciated it, thanks.

I'd be interested in this as well,,,, more importantly though I'd like to see if any one can figure out how to remove/install them.
