  1. maybe i had a weird occourance but when cruising down the fwy my tranny would kick out of over drive and start slipping, if i accelarated the torque conv. would lock up and be fine, back to cruising itd be slipping again.put in a new tps, still did it. after a week i went home, drained the fluid-full of metal sparkles. long story short i got it rebuilt but it still did the problem just not as much. figured hell it has a warranty ill let it break and get it fixed again. shortly after i bought a bored out throttle body. problem solved. sounds weird, i dunno why that fixed it but it did.
  2. :shake: pipe dream. if you had that big of a increase your factory filter had to of been extremely dirty
  3. itll be alot easier to learn on a quality welder. i by no means call myself a welder because i work with a few guys that are great at it so i know what a good bead looks like, now i can lay a bead that looks decent (stick or mig) but I'm not up to par with my teachers. with that being said i have used garbage, and i have used $3000 welders. once you use something thats quality youll never want to touch that HF junk again. i have a ton of pawnshops around me that always have welders for pretty cheap. the person who sold mine to the pawnshop didnt know how to use it. i opened up the door and the wire was all tangled on the spool. within 2 mins i had it working fine. they had the polarity backwards for running flux core, and they had .035 wire trying to got thru a .030 tip. you will be much happier with a decent machine. i reccomend taking a little time to find a good deal rather then going out and spending $100 on sumthing down the road youll want to throw away. you can spend all day polishing a turd, but at the end of the day its still just a turd ;) and I'm sure you know this but by heating them up to fit over the nut you just took even more strength out of the cheap wrenches
  4. so when i went to HF and bought some cheap tubing wrenches that fit nothing (standard/metric was too loose/tight for any fitting without stripping it), thoes cheap wrenches were no better then me on the other end of them?? :fs1: that wrench set got tossed in the garbage can. :D i partly agree, you can have the nicest welder made, but if you don't know how to use it you will weld like crap, on the other hand sure some people might be able to learn how to weld good with a cheap piece of junk, but why not spend and extra $100 or $200 and get a decent little machine with a proven name that has real adjustments, not high/low. like darren said, you get what you pay for
  5. x2 :agree: replace the seal and keep an eye out for the axle you want on craigslist or j/y
  6. don't get it. go to a pawn shop or surf craigslist for a lincoln or miller. i have a miller 135 that i got from my boss, that got it from a pawnshop for around $200. it works fine for thin stuff using argon (up to 1/8 with gas/ 3/16 with flux). it has the wire speed, and voltage settings that your can adjust. ive been doing a few patch panels on my mj, for how thin the metal is i had a much easier time welding with the argon, compared to doing the same panel with my neighbors lincoln and flux core. i believe that harbor freight has wire speed but for the voltage you choose between low/high, much like an old crafsman my buddy had the was a pos in my opnion.
  7. do some research on your own and find one you like. k/n, afe, etc. when i first got my xj i bought a rustys intake adapter. 2 weeks after having it on my eletric fan cut my tranny line and soaked my filter. didnt come with a shield and didnt have any performance gains. same ol warm engine compartment air my factory box was getting, waste of money and no protection for the filter. i later got a AFE factory style filter and opened the lower hole on my factory box up to allow more air flow. again no real performance gains, just a good re-usable filter. but i beat spending $250 for the same results
  8. if you do it yourself id practice on a few in the wrecking yard before you try the one you want. check with a few local glass companys (speedy glass etc), i just saw an add sayin removal and installation of new winshied for xj for $190 and they come to your door step and i believe new seal. i was getting ready to do mine, long handle windshield knife for the lower half was $25, the pull handle knife was around $30, black sealant was around $20, rust dissolver $10, i was just re-sealing mine but still had to get a new seal. i decided to let the pros do it and save me the headache for cheaper than i could do it myself.
  9. OP didnt ask what it would take, he asked if it was possibe to fit 33s with no lift or trimming.
  10. waste of money in my opnion. your not really getting cold air, your getting the same warm air that the stock filter gets, just with a new tube, cone filter, and maybe a shield. this isnt the write up i saw, just found this one. same concept tho, the writeup i read said a little noise increase from sucking air but died down quickly after start up. this moves your intake up away from water, and gets your real cold air. just food for thought http://www.thor4x4.com/html/xj_cowl_induction.html edit: found it http://www.ericsxj.com/intake/intake.htm
  11. think you should re-read the fist post and not try advertising. specifys no lift or trimming
  12. p/o had rustys track bar mount on my zj. bolted/stich welded on and i broke the tab for the 2 bottom bolts clean off. not impressed.
  13. i want to love mine.... but ive kinda disowned it. needs so many things and can't find the motovation or place to start lol
  14. http://c2cfabrication.com/store/product ... 2f63ckg606 made in usa, a few can be found on ebay for a few bucks less edit: just found this http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-OEM-Front ... B003IMN694
  15. roll pan looks good but I'm my head steel would be better than fiber glass. the front needs a design where it elimantes the front bumper for a more flowing look, again just my opnion
  16. i guess it was more of a mid arm than a long arm. just glanced at it real quick but the lowers were located with brackets on the bottom of the rail probly 6" back from orignal location. ive only seen a few advertisements with the xj/mj skyjacker long arm/mid arm whatever its called and i don't know anything about it. i like that 4 link desing alot more than a radius arm or 3 link just for the peace of mind from having 4 pivot/secure points. can anybody clarify that the 4.0 came with only the ax15 for a manual or did it also come with the peugot??
  17. ive rattle canned a few trucks before and it was so-so. ive seen i mini bike painted with gloss black and flames then clear coated and i though it was a real paint job, but he did a ton of prep work and wet sanding. to me, now that I'm a little older than my primer red, sitting on the bumstops ranger, the paint does add up fairly quickly to the cost of a gallon of real automotive paint, maybe you can talk to yout neighbors or friends friend and see if anyone has a garage/compressor you can use. now you can paint a rig with a bomb can but with my experince/ post paint sanding/clearing, i would look to find somewhere that i could use a real paint gun. on the other hand i just saw a topic of somebody painting their mj on here with wally world olive drab house paint, from the pics (which definatly won't show flaws) it seem good. are you wanting a flat paint job, or shiny paint??
  18. take a shovel, food, water, emergency blanket, and dry set of clothes. I'm have a bad habbit of goin out by myself and got stuck 2 years ago. long story short i dug out the first time bare handed and kicking for 5 hrs, was soaking wet, got free decided to celebrate with another beer, within a 45 mins was stuck again, this time only tried diggin for 10 mins, then walked out 6 miles soaking wet til i got cell reception. had to use 2 hands to hold my phone up i was so exhausted and cold. since that day i now carry an emergency bag stuffed with food.clothers, come-along, military shovel, straps, fire log etc. a fun time can turn to miserable real quick (also i went a 5am by the time i got unstuck it was warming up to 33 degrees in 3 ft of snow, i don't go in warm weather now)
  19. i thought only ax15 came with the 4.0? i have a 29n spline 8.25 ive been putting disk brakes on that would replace the 35. and whats wrong with the skyjacker lift? true 4 link long arm, and the center section bolts in so the tranny can be dropped. i honestly know nothing about skyjacker other than its spendy. he said 4 wheel parts did the work so he should have paper work but now that i think of it he said he bought it off a lot like it is for $5500 :hmm: i just stopped by to tell him about comancheclub, then got excited when he said 5k and i offered 4k and he thought about it lol i really don't need another rig so any info to steer me clear would be accepted ;) and I'm not sure he said 4.88's, thats just what i think i rember but why check paper work? I'm sure i could tell the difference between 3.73 and 35's??? or do they not make 4.88 for the 35? (i didnt check the axle, just noticed it was soa and asked) edit: what i like about the skyjacker lift was it was a true 4 link long arm, lower arms were moved down and back while being braced all the way to the tranny xmember, and the upper arms moved just above the orignal lower arm brackets. why would this be weak??
  20. they will rub and if you don't have the plastic wheel liners it will probly cut the tires. 2" aal and my brand new 31's got some unintentional sipping lol 33's would be huge and probly work an auto tranny with stock gears pretty hard playing in the snow. put the 30's on and air down to 8-9 psi, that will give you a nice foot print. keep in mind that your air is low and don't be speed racer as you might pop a bead
  21. driving back from getting a pizza today and spotted this at the autoparts store. turns out the guy wants to sell it. asking 5k so i said 4k right now. hes a truck driver and taking off 2morrow and said call him in a month when hell be back. 6.5" soa with rancho long arms (i think it was the skyjacker because of the 4 link L/A), and skyjacker coils, locker in the rear poopy 35, and arb in the 30 both with 4.88 gears, 35's and set of tube doors, buckets seats, 4.0 5sp, odd tonneau cover, headache rack, warn bumper and winch. could use new paint, but could also use 97' fenders, header panel, and doors. with any luck i might get this
  22. its all rare around me in the wrecking yards lol i do have a 97+ mirror. id have to go look to see if its driver or passanger if your interested. you got a good deal tho
  23. I'm having some good ol' grilled cheese, bud light, and unisom to get back to a normal sleep schedule
  24. ran them in my turbo thunderbird and my xj with no problem
