  1. Looking good, when are you gonna tear into the drivetrain?
  2. Good to hear it run, Ive been collecting parts for my 5.2 swap too. I have an 89 lwb, 4.0 with a Ba10-5 in it right now. I picked up a 92 Dakota with a 5.2 and a bad auto trans. I just didn't want to put an automatic trans in a stick truck, so I picked up a 93 Dakota with a 3.9 and an AX15 manual trans. I also bought a flywheel from a 5.2 Dodge 1500 to connect the ax15 trans to the 5.2. My brother in law found me some zj frame mounts in a jy, so now I just need some time to get rippin into it. I do have a couple questions though. What can be done to get the AC lines hooked up,, and is there any way to use my renix tach with the chrysler computer? My last dodge project was a 3.3 in a 91 daytona, and the tach worked as is in that one. Thanks, Mark
  3. I like the idea of moving the axle back on the springs. Seems like the tires always move forward a little when you lift it and this just corrects that.
  4. is your exhaust system full of coolant? If it is, just beat it down the road a couple miles, it'll clean out.
  5. I can tell you that my son and I put an AW4 and 231 in his 89 cherokee, that had an AW4 and 242 transfer case. It went in easy and works fine. The one we put in came from a 92 cherokee 4.0 HO
  6. I used to run into this problem all the time with the old GM 2.5 like in a cutlass cierra. I think the problem there was with the lifter not adjusting in far enough after grinding the valve and seat. I think the right way to fix it is to put in new lifters, but you can cheat a little by shimming a little under the rocker pedestal. I used pop or beer cans sometimes. Start by doing a compression test to see if thats even the problem.
  7. According to Napa , 87 to 89 comanche pn UP93591 cable length 51.75", housing length 43.63" List price $22.12 each
  8. Auto Zone sells Russell 2pc. fitting kit for-3 AN pn 640281 $22.99 My neighborhood NAPA store sells the line for about $20
  9. I've worked on some gas engine garbage trucks with Propane carb hats added to the top of the throttle body. They just turn off the power to the injectors and turn on the propane solenoid. I think they also have an auxillary ignition control box to change the timing curve on propane. I never liked the stinky stuff

    Gas prices

    $3.87 for 89 octane 10% alcohol $3.97 for reg.87 octane
  11. Although my 4.0 is worn out, I am just slightly under powered with 4.10 gears, 33 inch tires and Ba10-5
  12. when you have it up on the lift, check your front axle joints too. Make sure theres no rust showing around the caps.
  13. I was under the impression that 4.10 gears were the most common gear in the early cherokee, and I would think the same would go for comanche.
  14. I bought a 2500 watt generator 25 years ago "just in case the power goes out". I used it for that reason once for an hour about 8 years ago. Of course I need to keep it in running order, so I've used it a bunch at the race track and the junk yard . Guess I got my $200 purchase price out of it!
  15. worked for me, Good luck with your venture!
  16. so, are the RC shackles longer than stock already? Sounds like the way to go, should improve the pinion angle a little.
  17. Kinda kool, I don't know if I like the chevy fenders, but what else would you use? Maybe The jeep trailer type fenders?
  18. Are you running spring over on the rear?
  19. I know it may need new seals, but maybe when you had the axles out, the lube just ran down the tube and now it's finally dripping out. then again it's good to do it now instead of when the diff is full of dirt and water
  20. They have sheet metal reinforcing strips behind them, with studs welded on them. I think its a 3/8 socket thats required to take the nuts off, or twist off the studs, which is normal. there's a short stiffener strip on the top of the front wheel wells, you can bust it off, or put a 1/4 x 1/2 bollt in to re-attach it.I think those studs hold the inner fender panel on too, so if you want to keep them, you need to do something to hold that in too.
  21. Thanks, thats the way I saw it, but was hoping I didn't miss something.
  22. I bought an AX15 yesterday off CL. It's out of a Dodge Dakota 3.9 4x4. It looks the same as a jeep trans, Does anyone know for sure? I'm gonna use it in my 89 MJ. I also got a 95 jeep ext slave bellhousing from a different source. Hope it all fits together!
  23. My son drives an 89 XJ that I think is the same color as yours, I love it. My MJ is dark blue, like so many others. I bet you need a starter, but make sure all the connections are good on the battery cables first. As far as the HO swap, I don't kow if it's really worth the hassle to change it over, a well tuned renix is a good runner as is. Just my 2 cents worth.
  24. Thats cool! I guess I was thinking of my YJ, which is 2 1/4. My MJ is 2 1/2 but I cobbled it on there from a Dakota. Hey it was free!
  25. I was thinkin it was 2.25 all the way, but my 89 has a bolt on flange, so its hard to tell.
