Is anyone here useing this add a leaf? Will it really lift it 3.5"? it claims its for XJ's and Comanches. I'm going to rearch my springs myself and stick this AAL in so hopefully it won't sag much and give it all the lift it can. . i don't haul anything heavy or tow. I have 3" coils in the front now i want to stick in a 1" coil spacer and put the 3.5 AAL in the rear with rearched springs. if it truely lifts the rear 3.5" and stays there it would be great. but if it sags some i can allways put shackles on it. I would like to hear from others about there AAL's

Front AND Rear Bumper Pics
jeepthing07 replied to JOMJ87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I made mine out of 5x2" 3/16 Tube. Boxed the ends with 1/4" plate, the safety chain plate is also 1/4". Image Not Found When I tried to remove the old bumper ALL of the mounting bolts snapped off inside the uniframe. So while I had the bed off I drilled out the spot welds that held the nut plate in and made new ones out of 3" wide 1/8" plate. And used 1/2" grade 8 bolts now my rear bumpers metric free :D Image Not Found -
AW4 is electronicly controled you will need to swap computers. I'm sure the wireing is a bit different to

Once and for all: swapping in buckets
jeepthing07 replied to ORCA's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Comanche’s floors have extra re enforcing strips down the unibody on top of the floor too. XJ's don’t have this the XJ seat brackets don’t have the notch in them to clear it. -
Probably not

i agree i love the look of my yj (before bumpers, and snorkel) Nice YJ! They are the best "modern" jeep IMHO.Sure the early ones were crap but the later ones were built pretty good 4.0 HO, AX15 still no T18 but stronger than the T4/5 in the CJ's, Stronger frame than the CJ's. Sure the NP231 is chain driven and aluminum but it has a better low range than earlier jeeps and has a lot aftermarket parts available. Galvanized body panels and best of all leaf springs!

i got a little more done on it. I put Rusty's 3" 180# coils on it and got the dana 30 swaped in and a 33x12.50 mounted on it just to see how things cleared Image Not Found D30 Image Not Found Image Not Found I think I'm going to add a 1" spacer and cut the fenders and it should be ok if not i will put 32's on it

Loosen up the control arm bolts before you put it on jack stands. They can be a real B**** to get loose. its a safer than getting it up in the air then having to fight a frozen nut with a cheeterbar laying on you back under a truck up on jack stands. And with all the bolts loose its easyer to align the bolt holes cause everythings allready loose. then once you got it all back togeather take the truck off the stands then tighten/torque everything back.

1997 XJ's dident have D44's factory its probably a Chrysler 8 1/4 axle. the not idleing thing reminds me of my dads Dakota. it did that for months before i found out that the IAC idle motor housing gets carboned up and it won't idle because the plunger get hung up on carbon deposits. If Caseys gas was ran in it i would have to clean it out every other month, changed gas stations and i don't even remember the last time i had to clean it. If the problem is electrical i would get a Denso off a junkyard dodge ram of around the same year should be cheap and there higher amp

I’m going to the dealer tomorrow and order my own, the bigger size will enable it to haul more groceries. And they finally got rid of the old unreliable 4.0 and got a mini van V6. The plastic grill and bumpers are a great addition as well as the power windows... JK!

Bolt Locations for Bed removal
jeepthing07 replied to SomeNew Name's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I circled the other 4 locations in red the bolts are 15mm, theres a good chance of snaping bolts off in the bed if its really rusty Image Not Found there is only 3 bolts holding the parking brake bracket to the bed. you will need to take out the screws that mount the gas filler to the bed, loosen up the J-bolts that hold the gas tank to the bed then you can just push the tank up and unhook them (run most of the gas out first). unhook all the plastic clips that the taillight wire runs through under the bed. and remove the tailgate -

Right now i have 33's on the back of a stock comanche (2wd springs) :D it clears, barely.. but i don't have fender flares either. I'm putting a rustys add-a-leaf in the back soon though. i have 180# 3" rustys coils in the front. it don't like the 33's so I'm going to put in a 1" spacer and trim the back of the fender

So how can I tell what year my Dana 30 is?
jeepthing07 replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have instaled gears/lockers bearings in D30's and 35's the D35 dident change much at all. The later ABS carriers 93-94 and newer had bigger bores that the axleshaft spider gears set in but thats about it. besides the C-clip non C-clip axles. The D30 carriers are the same from low and high pinion besides the gear ratio splits on both 30 & 35 -
I got my herculiner on sale $45 for a gallon kit and i am very happy with it. It hides dents really well i prept it VERY good. spent a day removing peeling clearcoat with a rasor blade scuffed the paint up with scotchbrite pad and wiped it down with XYLOL. and it seems to stick very well. I'm glad i did it Image Not Found Image Not Found

Wiring issue with trans/case swap
jeepthing07 replied to Weezel's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Why can’t you just swap the speed sending unit/gear thing over from your old case? There’s just 1 bolt holding it in should be a direct swap :Edit: Now I see that its a 2wd to 4wd swap sorry... the cable driven sending unit on my 2wd AX5 looks a lot like the one in my cable driven NP231 I haven’t looked at both of them closely though. Maybe my original idea might work? It’s worth a shot anyways. The extra wires on the later years might be to keep the odometer from going backwards when backing up -
mines a 5 speed with the lever thing on the column it has to be pushed down to turn it back, just like any other GM column i have ever seen
