Meet Baby (my 88 MJ)
dave92cherokee replied to beaterjeep's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Just wondering if there is any uldates on your project? Was looking through this and other threads about lowering mj's and wanted to see what you did with the rear. -
If the tire shop damaged the tires rendering them un-usable then why are they not paying for a NEW replacement tire?
-
Thanks for the link I'll check them out and see what I can find.
-
You won't need all that to remove it. Getting it off is easy just unbolt everything then it can be lifted and slid off. Getting it back on is easier with two people though making it easier to align the bolt holes.
-
So you're the one with the blue led rope. Got any links to where you got it from as I've looked but was unable to find the thin stuff like that.
-
Awesome, thanks alot guys I'll go check it in the morning and hopefully get it wired up then check everything to make sure I wired it up right. Having to wrap my head around the single bulb style of the manche from the dual bulbs lilke the XJ's use takes a little bit. Was about to look into running a separate wire so it could be wired up like the XJ's with a separate turn signal bulb.
-
I'm working on getting the wiring done on the manche. It's a full 93 dash, harness, everything and I'm having trouble placing one last wire. It says that pin 11 on the XJ black connector (in my case white/tan) needs to connect to pin P on the turn hazard switch. However on the HO dash and harness I see no such pin and wanted to see if anyone could tell me which wire to splice into. Here's a couple of pictures from the FSM for an 88 and a 93 showing the two differences. Here's the 88: Here's the 93: Thanks for the help ahead of time as this thread has saved me a major headache trying to trace out all the wires.

You won't find a "new" one anywhere unless someone on here has one they've hung onto since bought new in which case doubtedly will let go of it. You best bet is the junkyard or some shops can take your old one and make a custom new one based off of it by stretching and rebending the tubes of an XJ unit.
-
That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the first pic. Just cut everything from the dash up off and tube it out.

Comanche Dash Bezel???
dave92cherokee replied to kawaboy13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
On xj's that's where switches for things like the power switch and rear window defogger. The black pieces for them attach separate of the trim piece so you could get some of them to fill it in. -
I sent him all the pics I've got of the mounts and the measurements of them in a couple of emails so he's prolly been busy trying to fab some up to fit.
-
So if we're a "cult following" then who's got the bowl of punch?

Nacho Cheese XL Chalupa Now back on topic, being in the middle of building a 4 door MJ if I was to do another one or start another one I would look at doing an extended cab MJ using two MJ cabs to space out and get the extended portion.

Wild looking J-truck custom on Ebay
dave92cherokee replied to HOrnbrod's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
All that work and didn't even bother to pull the engine and take care of it and the engine bay. -
Yes the red one in the pics at the top of the page is a real fab job, the white one in the video is a real fab job, and the one I posted is currently in my driveway being built.

rear bumpers.. how do i make them
dave92cherokee replied to swamprat's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=29159&start=30 There's a few pics I posted of the factory bumper mounts for both a short and long bed. If you can duplicate the mounts on the frame side then the bumper side can be adapted to any kind of bumper you want to build. -
LWB mounts SWB mounts SWB frame mount points LWB measurements drawings (very crudely and quickly done in Paint) Currently working on SWB measurement drawings and will have them up tomorrow.

Any updates over the last couple of weeks? Enjoy watching the progress especially the sandblasting and por.

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.p ... nge+repair There's a thread on naxja and many more like it that shows different ways to fix it.
-
I can get pics and any measurements needed from original factory swb and lwb bumper mounts. I just got through pulling them off of the two bumpers I have to get one of the bumpers straight to put back on the manche. I'm going to be stripping them down today and repainting them so let me know if interested.

It states that a driver may not allow people to ride in any part of a vehicle not designed or intended for passengers. Print out the section that states this and take pictures of the truck along with documentation that it is an antique fire truck and the judge should dismiss the charges. Sounds like rent-a-cop was having a bad day.

exhaust info request
dave92cherokee replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There's likely a crack in the exhaust manifold, the common place that they crack is where the pipes from each port come together. Just get a flashlight and look around them to see if you see a crack running around the pipes. To prevent this from happening again in the future have the exhaust shop put in a piece of flex pipe before the cat. This will allow the exhaust to move and prevent any cracks from reforming. -
New Fuel Sending Unit... Where to be found?
dave92cherokee replied to 87Chief's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs

Beginning of 1993 Cheromanche build
dave92cherokee replied to dave92cherokee's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well it's been a while since any updates so I'll get it close to where I'm at. Still trying to figure out what I'm going to do about the rockers, thinking I might order a set of xj rocker replacements and cut them up to remove the gap and get them aligned. Got the sheet metal bent to shape for the floor and welded in place. Stripped the rest of the floor and primered to stop any further rot. Will be cutting some patches to fix the little bit of rot there was on the floor. Got the 3" angle cut, bent, and welded to the frame will just have to finish filling in the rosette holes. Been working on the brake system in the rear and almost all of it has had to be replaced, also drained, cleaned, and refilled the rear diff with royal purple. Next weekend planning on getting the rear doors pieced together, as well as get the straightened rear bumper bolted back up. Will get some pics this week if the rain clears out long enough just hoping the forecast for the weekend is clear.
