  1. I'm totally in the same boat as you are. For this kind of money I could easily get into a newer Honda CRV that I've had in mind for a few years now. Agreed, it probably wouldn't be as practical as a modern vehicle. I've been entertaining going backwards with how overly-computerized new vehicles have become. I've been envious seeing really nice XJs running around town... then this gold one came about locally.
  2. It's honestly a very clean XJ inside and out with zero rust nowhere. The only immediate thing to do is replace the tires. The left front strut will need to be fixed down the near future as well. To answer your question, it would still be fairly low miles and be in good shape in 5 years if I was the new owner. Clearly the seller didn't need to get 17k for this since he lowered the listing price after a short period of time. The ad is not getting very many clicks either. It's a neat older vehicle. But for now I'm liking the money I have in the bank more.
  3. Yeah... there's this. I'm NOT 100% Out on this yet. I've been keeping an eye on it. Has dropped 1k since I last drove it. I understand overpaying for something you want... but I also understand the fee of convenience.
  4. Appreciate the words of encouragement. Team Comanche Club helped me decide not to act on buying this XJ. Think I still want one sometime in the future, but for now my baby is the 1986 MJ that's nestled in the garage. A few nights ago I linked the seller this thread to illustrate that he's got it listed at an absurd price. Probably didn't like the push back from researching its honest value. Bet he's hoping some dope will hook with its inflated price.
  5. Thank you to everyone who has helped me better understand what an old XJ like this is all about. Definitely had rose tinted glasses yesterday, and even while I posted this topic. Thinking that my insurance would NOT go all-in on coverage for this was not even on the radar.
  6. Subtle wear indicates to me it has been driven on a somewhat routine basis. Don't think it was covered in a thick mat of dust like you see on Discover+ shows. Yes, tires need replaced. Wish I took a few shots of the engine compartment. The vehicle is very clean throughout. The plastic bits and hoses look supple. Engine mounts look like new. Intake manifold and rest of engine was free of any oil and dirt grime. Also, it didn't look like it had detail job. Dude is already texting me of similar XJs being sold recently online for 17k. If I get a good feeling at the right time I may offer 12k for this one.
  7. WORD
  8. I appreciate the honest insight guys. Unfortunately I doubt the guy will go any lower than 17k, he is known for not budging on price. When driving yesterday, it did feel quite solid — but it still is 26 year old Jeep. It's mine if I wanna take the dive, but this would deplete my saved nest eggs. I'm afraid this might turn into another project vehicle, rather than a care-free daily driver.
  9. Yes I know, the engine compartment is identically clean as the chassis. Immediate need is new tires. Buyer said it drove well from KC on interstate, but at 60 mph they do shudder from their age. Also, radio needs replaced Nothing else is very noticeable so far, except for LF strut needs replaced later on.
  10. The seller is locally known for his modern classic Jeep finds. He picked this one up at a KC auction. 'Barn Find' that's always been garaged apparently. Here's a few more pictures. I doubt the mileage was altered, based on the condition of the undercarriage.
  11. As probably most of us know, when you buy a car it is rarely during the best time. This beaut shown on my local classifieds a few days ago. Always have been intrigued of the follow that these OG suvs have. This would ultimately be, and replace my daily driver... a 2002 Honda CRV. This vehicle is PRIMO for its age. Am I being really fu5king stupid if I pass this rare bird behind????? • 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ 4x4 4.0 • Only 120k miles • 17,000 firm
  12. Cincinnati Chile. Made with homemade tomato meat sauce. Using Lindt® 85% chocolate. Made 2-UP with kidney beans and white onion.
  13. In my small Kansas town, my MJ gets a fair amount of attention, actually. I take it to car shows to hangout with other weirdo rides. While there, I've heard a few shoutouts from pre-16 boys saying they dig my WIP. Also, randomly while driving, I notice various levels of attention as people pass my cool old truck.
  14. 20 More Years! Other automotive forums & websites are missing something that WE have... also any social media for that matter. It's great to be a member of Comanche Club.
  15. Picked up a fine 7 year in my 86 today
  16. Reached milestone today. Next stage is mold making
  17. Awesome, thanks fellas, especially for the informative replies. Eaglescout: no I don't have the trans out, or lowered. Currently, truck is in driving state like always, but it's good knowing how to proceed as anticipated. Eagle_SX4: thanks for introducing this "new" way of bleeding to me a few months ago. ***** Looking forward to this project. Think I'm gonna order an OEM Slave soon to match my Mopar Master. Aftermarket is the line only.
  18. Guys, please have a view of the video below. I still have yet to complete this project. But once I finally buy a slave cylinder, I then have all the parts needed. — Eagle_SX4, is this more or less the procedure that you use to bleed via the slave? — Eaglescout526, this shows using a vise to bleed a complete hydraulic system. Would installing all three parts connected on my 1986 even be realistic, or would it be far less of a headache to mount parts separately and then connect the line... then finally bleed?
  19. Lambo... because of the Countach MAD MAX: Road Warrior vs Fury Road ?
  20. Forwarded from my local classifieds... Description Was a spare from early 90's Cherokee. The tire has 0 miles on it. 225/70 R15. Message me through this ad. https://www.nextechclassifieds.com/listings/2231610/
  21. Not 'funny' but just some 60s Hottie riding a water jet
  22. Can you tell me the exact Migliore product you use? Looks like all quality stuff. As I was using lacquer thinner to clean overspray today, I noticed my rags were turning black from rubbing the plastic... hence SOLVENT based. Using the torch method generally works pretty well, but it does require repeat spot treatments. And the sheen still remains flat.
  23. After a few all-day-long days during this holiday weekend I finally got my CRV "finished". Sometime in the near future I'll polish the paint either by hand or by motorized tool. Overall I'm happy with the results. I don't have an air compressor so I needed to go with rattle cans. It took 3 spray cans of base color and 2 cans of 2K clear coat. I could easily have used an additional can of clear, however. Some areas are glass-smooth, while other parts have subtle orange peel. Not bad for working in a small garage with terrible lighting. I also used this opportunity to fix prior paint damage and sun bleaching on the hood and roof as well. MASKING PAINTING & CLEAR COAT
