OK i want to go OTK for somewhat cheap but strong. I am thinking of building a setup for the MJ. I was thinking Johnny joints with a straight hole and lock nuts and washers on the axle. My questions are IS the idea a safe way to do it and drive on the street? Any ill effects with this? I know i can get a Waggy setup and go OTK and ream the nukles but I was wanting to use some nice DOM i have left over to build it. Anyone built there own from SCRATCH. Thanks guys. Cole

I was thinking of a Ranger rat rod project in a Flat Charcoal and black trim. Even thought of redoing my current scheme on the MJ with that combo. Love the rat rod trucks. Cole

how big of a coil am I going to need
JOMJ87 replied to JeepDew's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got close to 8 on my front With just SOA and its not to my liking yet. Its sit to low in the front for me. I like the nose to be up alittle. I am going to drop the rear and see what happens then. I was thinking 2wd springs for it also. At that height you are going to have Alot of steering concerns that might need fabricating and Long arms would be a must at that height Cole -
Unbolt the fuse panel and theres a plug on the back. Theres also a plug on the firewall in the hood. right beside the master cylinder. Cole

Well thats where it gets tuff. I only drove the MJ with 4.88s about 2 weeks and the fan clutch broke so i started the swap early. I think its better then the TBI by a bit but it wasnt like a incredible jump. OH and i ran out of day light on the way home from work so i will get the pics hopefully tomorow if i get off befroe dark. My favorite thing about this Swap was I have learned the one thing i was scared to death of and that was the Wiring harness. Before this swap i couldnt read schematics at all. I am more of a engine and Metal working hobiest But i had installed car audio systems in high school for extra cash so i went for it with the harness and learned alot. Ill get those pics tomorow. There are and thats suposed to be FEMAs job. Every county and state have Emergency Managment people. They do any planning for natural disasters to Terrorist acts. Even the Military has these people. I know this because i DO IT for the USAF. My career fields name is Emergency Managment . We do that exact job for the USAF along with teaching Chemical biological and radilogical Warfare, Responding to any of the mentioned type of attacks to Detect and identify what it is. All the planning you can think of is done to try to make everyone prepared but in reality you will have people that don't want to listen or they are set in there ways. Believe me I am sure there are crazy plans out there similar to this becasue WHAT IF?? Is always how you have to think. Like WHAT IF 100 thousand people decided to grab alot of guns and ammo and take over the US. We would have to have some crazy plan to combat this meaning several LARGE prisons and not ones in use today cause as most know those are pretty full. Everyday law enforcement probably couldnt handle this kinda uprising in most cases so Martial law would have to be used to help out. Just a crazy made up thought but you have to plan for everything. It sounds crazy but it is a fun job. Cole

I also wheeled for 2 years with a stock D35 and it had a locker the last 9 months with my BFG 35s.I have recently upgraded do to the fact i knew it would break at some point but it never had at all. It even lasted threw tellico but I don't use like the skinny pedal as much as some. Upgrade if you can but if not just buy extra shafts. Cole

Yeah i just googled it cause it sounded like a conspiracy theory idea and i thought it would an interesting topic to read on. Some Wiki is verified but soem is not. I don't take it all to heart but alot of times it can be right on and others its way off. Cole

Everything runs great. I have some cleaning up of the harness to do so that i don't have an extra C101 or whatever its called connector. Its more or less functions like its stock. I wanted to go aftermarket with the gauges so i only messed around and got the gas working but i COULD have the stockers working in a few min if i wanted them. The hardest part was to move the wires on the C101 connector to different slots. It was tedious but my gas mileage doubled  from the old TBI setup so i am happy with it. Its does have a studder in the throttle on intial blip liekk when you first push the peddle but i am thinking its the air filter i have on it right now. I need a 92 MJ or XJ intake setup for it. I will take pics tonight and explain some more stuff. Cole

I am done Except for adding my front locker and D-shaft. I also am going to put a HD ignition system in. I kinda feel bad that i am almost DONE so i have been contiplating repainting it but a Charcoal with black decals and star with the same design. I am nuts but I can't just stop now. OH and my heat aint working because i didnt get all the wire harness attached so i can try to get it going cause its cold this time a year. I will get pics of everything and try to get them up. If i had alot more pics i would post a DIYs on the Motor and harness transformation plus some of it isnt up to mosts standards but i trust it to work and function for 10 more years. Look for pics and updates coming at you. Cole

OH and just to be a :smart: So you have rear doors on your MJ??? :D Cole
-
I agree with Rokhound, I would beat the pins out of the hinges and replace them. I want hurt and they prob could use replaced. And while your at it make them removable doors. I have a write up in my project page if you would like to read about it. Cole

I love my OD paint and scheme BUT I do regret not spending more time on it. I got in a hurry and waited to late in the day and with the humidity down here made soem panels look like crap and the Flat paint sucks when you try to apply a second coat in some situations. I Think if i ever redo it i will buy a cheap gun and a gallon of paint and go at it. Here are some pics. But I don't really have to big on a concern cause this thing is ment to be scratched and dented. Cole

Not trying to be a jerk or flame. Your best option is to search. I can post thousands of posts and threads and they will be all diiferent. I promise you will come out ahead to search the forum for Spring over Axle (SOA) lift and then check what comes up. ABout 2 pages up thers atleast 1-2 threads on this also. If you have trouble searching just post up and we can throw you some solid links to get you started. Cole

Now if you take some messurements there might be someway to fit it but thats a pretty big maybe. Good luck with it Cole

The tanks are identical if the size is the same. theres only a couple tanks choices. And like i said above the internals and pumps will interchange between senders. Cole

i need help with decisions
JOMJ87 replied to manche0230's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I didn't say designed i said FIT to an MJ. Rustys kit for example says it will fit but once you go to put it on you have a lot of issues with it installing. Not trying to get in an argument, but if i had the RC lift and the motion lift kits to choose from, I would go with motion. Now with that said, there are other kits out there for him to choose from. The pitman arm comment comes from the fact that installing a drop pitman arm without changing the trac bar mount will cause bump steer cause they are no longer parallel. Again, not trying to step on anyones toes, i am just commenting and giving MY opinion. Cole -
camber adjustment options
JOMJ87 replied to comancheman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When i first done the instal of my front axle and control arms i didnt get the adjustment right. For about a week I noticed that the Top of the tires were in more then the bottom. After i reajusted the axle they sit perfect. All it took was the control arms being adjusted. This may be alittle of your problem but it is free to check if you think it could be an issue. Just another idea but i may be way off. Cole -
i need help with decisions
JOMJ87 replied to manche0230's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Motion said it all. The longarm being the selling point on the whole kit cause it has been fitted to a MJ. I am sure if you talk to them they can recomend several diffrent shocks brands to fit that lift. Without knowing what they can order or what ones will fit perfectly it would prob be better and simpler just to get it all from them or Whoever you choose to go with. OH and that steering setup is a 200-300 upgrade from alot of places and it helps ALOT. NO experience with there kit but it LOOKS like a nice kit and not to bad of a price. Cole -
Build a set. I came out way ahead on mine. I think all the info is in my project thread. If not let me know and ill find it for you. BTW i used RE joints and I love them and they are proven. Cole
