Quartz Jeep Clock Q's
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm not blaming the clock, just curious about it since I've only tinkered around with these clocks on few occasions. Haven't checked the voltage, but wiring wise, the clock is A-OK. I just thought it was a bit strange seeming as how the newer ones have replaceable bulbs, but this one doesn't. :dunno: I'll probably run a voltage check w/in the next few days to see if it's putting out anything. -
Went to the JY this past weekend w/ a buddy of mine to browse the new imported vehicles, and I ran across a pristine 88 Chero. Wagoneer that had only been there for a day and was completely un-pillaged (save for the motor, which was completely pulled and the husk turned in) (Will post pics of it in my Build thread) But anyway, I picked up a Quartz Dash clock which is a direct plug in to the system in my own truck. The only problem is that the bulb(?) is shot, so there isn't any display. Does anyone know if there is a way to replace the bulb; or is there even a bulb to replace? Or am I going to have to send it to the "For Service..." location stamped on the back to get it fixed? 2 Pics of the clock, in case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about. Not mine of course (always too lazy to take my own pictures  :thwak: ), credit goes to Marcus Ohms @ Go-Jeep for the pics.

Only one I personally recommend is any LKQ yard. My own preference is the one in Daytona Beach. There's a good number of Cherokee's and 4 MJ's there. There's also the holy grail known as the Wagoneer Cherokee that just came in the other day. Pristine shape if you don't mind some tears in the "Limited" embroidered leather seats. :wrench:

Sadly, don't even know if it's still there. Plus, I don't go to that JY anymore. They always charge ridiculous prices for everything they have. :fs1: :(

Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it!

How common is red interior?
Zenobian_84 replied to 89 shortbed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ah, now that I think about it, I've seen a few Cherokee's w/ the blue interior. -
Not fog lighting, but the lens underneath the headlights. Case in point, Don's BEAST Comanche. This thing is totally sweet!  This is basically how I want my own front end to look like. Admiration aside, does anyone know where one can get themselves a pair of ambers like those?

How common is red interior?
Zenobian_84 replied to 89 shortbed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Seen a few reds, but figured they were pretty common. I always had a thing for the red/burgandy interiors.... Another question (that I don't want to start a new thread for) is about the Turquoise(?) trim. Picture is pretty old, but will suffice. I have YET, to see another Comanche with this trim design except for one other (which was an 86). Do I have rare trim here? -
1989 Comanche SporTruck Renix 4.0 / AX5 / 2WD / D30 / D35 / LWB Build date:Illegible (1989) Current Location: Fruitland Park FL (FP JY) Status: Junkyard as of 9/2011 - Awaiting being crushed Notes: Factory fog light option (first I ever saw personally) Had premium gray shag carpeting interior (it was EVERYWHERE, even on the dash) and really nothing else notable. Had a very straight body and NO RUST whatsoever. Makes me mad, considering it only had 135k on the clock... :fs1: Current owner: Whatever the name of the junkyard in Fruitland Park FL is. :(

How hard is this to find?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Dang, I would have figured that more than one person would have wanted power everything in these trucks. :D :shake: At least there's a bunch of Cherokee's I can nab everything out of to do the conversion, should I get tired of my forearm ever hurting. :brows: -
Wait a minute, where did you get that instrument panel? There's a guy or 2 on ebay that sells those stainless steel "panels" for the XJ/MJ/ w/e that fits that design. I was going to see about getting myself one (only $20, and he has a pretty nice collection of different designs) but I thought they'd look goofy with the restoration I want to do to my MJ. If you want to know more, head over to ebay and search "Jeep Cherokee Dash Bezel"; I think you'll be quite surprised.

Almost at the point of the 3000th mile I've put on the MJ since owning it for going on 6 months. (Just hit 168 a month or so ago, and is halfway to its 169th) Still running like a champ!

Factory power window/lock setup for the Comanche. :hmm: I know they exist, but have only ever seen 2 Comanches (in photo form) with them installed. I know I could just pull the rear power window/locking setup from a Cherokee and wire it in w/ everything, or make my own system to handle it, but I figured I should ask. Is this very out of the ordinary to find in the JY's? If so, does anyone have a picture of what the system looks like on the driver's side, so I can keep an eye out for it? (passenger side looks like a backseat XJ setup, from what I've seen.)

86' XLS Comanche Questions
Zenobian_84 replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't believe the switch on the right is factory. I've seen a lot of factory switches for 87-92, and only a few 86 trucks that actually HAD added options; but I've never seen that particular switch. Could be wrong though. :dunno: Also, I have to add.... that truck is a BEAUTY!    How much did you pay for it? If you don't mind me asking... -
Pretty sure I'm going to have to redo the oil pan gasket.... it's losing about 1/2 a quart of oil every 2 days. This time, not using the cheap @$$ $12 cork gasket. The thing comes loose waaayyyy to easy, and at the worst possible times. Still waiting to get a chance to go do the following: Go to the junkyard to pick up a fender Install my fog lights and switch Fix my interior lighting Get new tires for the truck Put the new rims on the truck Get the rest of the rust off the bed and cabin / repaint each. Repaint the roof Redo the headliner -------------------- Too bad I hardly have any time at all to tackle even one of these things. :fs1: :headpop: :shake:

Does this usually happen?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No, I did not damage the board. It looks exactly the same as when I first put the entire cluster in. The connector is completely to the board, and I never calibrated it from when you shipped it to me. When I first put it in, it worked, but was about 1000 RPMs off from where it should be. The speedometer works fine (never posted that the speedo is broken?? :redX: :hmm: Everyone seems to be misguided here that everything else is broken? ), its just the tachometer and gas gauge that are the culprits here. Another theory I have. Does anyone know if the 2.5 gauges put out less OHMs than the 4.0's? Or do both gauge types (2.5/4.0) put out the same power? Because since I installed them, my backboard lighting behind the gauges doesn't work. :redX:  I'm going to remove the new XJ units I put in and see if the Gas gauge and Tach start working again. Will post results here. As always, the feedback is appreciated. And, I'll probably go with Pete's theory. Never trust JY stuff. Especially important things like readout gauges.... -
Does this usually happen?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, I did way back when. The sending unit change only pertains to the Oil and Temp gauge, which aren't the problem here. Unfortunately I wish they were though, lol. -
Fiddles around with the truck for the first time in god knows how long today. Weather was real nice so I decided to do some gauge swapping. :D :wrench: Back when I put the new cluster in, my gauges were the AMC read out ones (upgraded from dummy lights) and looked like this. Everything but the Temp and Oil gauge worked, and today, I put in an XJ Oil and Temp gauge. The Oil gauge works as it should, and I believe the Temp is working as well, but didn't see any drastic increase in temperature like I figured should happen, but that's not my main concern right now. ------------- The problem is, after I put in the new gauges, my Gas and Tach gauges stopped working completely. :redX: I checked all the connections, grounds, and everything else I could think of that would affect either of them, and nothing was wrong. Has this happened before to any of you? What do you guys suggest I do to fix this? I have another Gas gauge to swap in from the XJ I picked from, but I don't have another tach. It's strange, because I don't think I've ever seen this happen to anyone else before.... :hmm: :dunno:

Factory speaker mounting diagrams
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Makes sense, but I'm having a tough time scoring some decent power window setups. I know I could hit up a 4DR Chero. and snatch some, but It just seems a pain to remove everything to put it into my own setup. :dunno:  -

 Appreciate it! Never seen them mounted w/out the B-pillar trim over them before. -
Also, sorry for the x2 posts, but I forgot to mention that my boss's wife (she must be only 4'8) drives a full size 1998 Chevy Silverado Z71 w/ a 3 in. lift every day to work. It's hilarious watching her get into the thing. :rotf:

I know everyone probably doesn't think much of this car, but it was my first car, and therefore, my first forray into the world of automobiles A 1997 Pontiac Sunfire 4Cyl 2.2L (Me with long hair. Man that felt like a long time ago.) The car was surprisingly spacious, and other than replacing the starter, 4 new tires, brakes, and adding fog lights, it was a very low maintenance car. It had almost 190k miles on it too! That Sunfire never left me stranded, and I still regret selling it for the MJ sometimes. I know for a fact, that I got 20 or better mpg in the city, and definitely all of 25 or so on the highway. Definitely a good car to have for a beater. Not to mention they are literally a dime a dozen down here in FL. You can pick up a pretty decent one for $1400 or less (most of the time around $1000 or so.) The only downside I can recall about them is if you get the older ones (96-2002) before the major facelift in 03, you'll have the "less than desirable" 2.2 engine compared to the better EcoTech 2.3 engine. IMO, there is no difference, just how you take care of it. The second problem is that some Sunfires (and Cavaliers) have braking problems that cannot be fixed. EX: Driving down the road and hit the brakes, it'll feel like they stick and you jerk around when you brake. I'm not sure if this was widespread or only affected a small # though.

The LQK I'm talking about is about 3-5 miles from the Daytona Speedway. If you get onto 1792 and follow it for a whiles, it will branch off into 17, and 92. Take 92 for about 2 miles, and it'll be on the right hand side (this is of course if you are taking SR-44 onto 1792) Here's a link to their site to check their inventory. I suggest you get out there if you're interested! There were about 4 MJ's out there this past weekend in good "picking" shape! http://www.lkqselfserve.com/FindaLocation/LKQFlorida/LKQDaytonaBeach/tabid/173/Default.aspx I wish I could have heard that J20. I also wish I had access to any sort of welder. Shame I don't. :( Or else those floor pans would have been done 2 months ago, lol.

Thanks for the advice. It's not so much the current speakers I have (4x6 $40 200w Pioneers) impead the crank, it's just that the crank keeps bumping into them and makes the screws holding them to the backboard become loose. And yeah, Gorilla Glue.  Definitely headed back to the JY this weekend.
