  1. Anybody? Or does everyone else have this same problem, lol. :hmm: :(

    Gas Gauge

As you can see, the blasted thing doesn't work. Out of about 6 that I've pulled from yards, only 2 worked, and they only worked for about 2 months apiece. I would like a WORKING XJ/MJ gauge (has to be the Black/Red combo), shipped to 32778 area. PM for more details. Not looking to spend a fortune here, but I'll shell out enough clams within reason. Thanks.
  3. I couldn't tell you the name because I don't even remember it, quite frankly  :( But one of the reasons I don't is because most of the people that work there are a$$holes who charge outrageous prices even the smallest things. A sun visor for inside the cab costs $15 dollars there; ridiculous! Anyway, more madness! Went out for a drive on Sunday to Astatula to a friend's house to talk to his old man about a job he needed me to do. Unfortunately, that won't get off the ground til' later this week, so I'll just have to do something else until then. Decided to wrench on his 86' GP, so I helped him finish up wiring in his distributor cap and plug wires. Can't wait until he gets done with that. Looking forward to hearing those Hooker headers scream  Checked under my hood and found out that my battery decided to slide into my the alternator, which chewed a pretty good sized hole in the side of it. Blew acid on the passenger side of the compartment, but I cleaned it up. Will probably go back and do some scrubbing with some baking soda within the next day or so. For now, I just slathered on some rust inhibitor, which has solved most of the corrosion issues. More down near the stabilizer and the frame. :headpop: That crap also got onto my linkage.... And, you can see the paint peeling off the alternator fan. $80 later, I got myself a new battery hooked up, and tied down. It's going to take a Tornado to make that battery move. Decided to retire my classic AMC gauges in favor of the red ones. I like the look of the red ones better and I finally have a working oil pressure gauge! :clapping: Still don't have a working gas gauge though. After a 20 minute drive. You guys wish you could have that much gas in your tank. :shake:
  4. Haven't done any street promoting for a while, but I got a few new guys at my local auto parts store all excited when I told them I was picking up some parts for my '87. One of them was surprised and couldn't believe any of those were still around, and he ran out and gave it the look-a-round. It was pretty nice.
  5. Unless you were somehow in the wrong here, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Pardon my French, but @#$%ing old people in FL don't know how to drive worth $#!&! I've been seeing crap like that and have almost got into about 5 accidents since I've been driving because some old fogie thought they could pull out ahead of me, or tailgate 3 inches from my rear bumper. Rant over; and yes, I do also realize that kids today drive like morons too. But down here in FL, it's like bizarro world or something. Complaints aside, keep an eye on what's bothering you, and like MJRemi wrote, if the pain is still there after a few days, go to the doctor and put it on that guy's tab.
  6. Looking good! How good does that Lowe's paint hold up? I'm thinking I might give that a go if I like how it turns out...
  7. Oversized battery came loose and decided to play rough with my alternator. Alternator chewed the side of it up and sent battery acid over half of my engine compartment. Cleaned everything up as best I could and used a gratuitous amount of rust inhibitor on the spots where the acid hit. Decided enough was enough, so I went and got a factory sized brand new battery. $80 later, problem solved. Now I'm flat broke though. :fs1:
  8. What is the BS (back space) on these wheels? Do you have spacers on the front wheels? :hmm: Didn't occur to me at first to document that, but after some trial and error, figured out the BS should roughly be 2.5 in. Unfortunately, I don't have the tools handy to remove the wheels for a few seconds to make sure, but I'm pretty sure that's what it is.
  9. When I had to get some rust off the roof, I just taped over the drip rails. I'm 75% sure that there isn't a way to remove them without causing stress later on. My advice? Cover them with newspaper or something and then tape em. Also interesting read.
  10. Anyone know of an aftermarket centercap I can pick up for these Ford Turbines? Bolt pattern is 5x4.5 ---- Not sure if I have to buy specific caps, or if I can even get any for them. Not looking for anything fancy, just something to keep the dust from getting inside the wheel bearings. Any help is appreciated.
  11. if you happen to go back and find this red MJ still sitting there, could you find out the price on that windshield visor thing? I'm not sure if i would like it on my truck or not... uber rare moon visor, snag it up!!! i want it I highly doubt that particular MJ is even still there, suffice to say.
  12. Do you mean replace the whole socket assembly, or just the bulb? Same problem as jasongreg, to a T, and I've been trying to figure out the solution for about a week. :fs1:
  13. Exterior: Depending on the 4x4 system (if any), some of that may hook up. Depends on tranny / rear end though. Rear axle takes a bit of fabbing, but can be accomplished; there's a lot of people around here who've done that swap. If the XJ is 4 door, then the front doors can be swapped over. Engine of course can be swapped over. Tranny too (with some work) if you're looking to replace yours or upgrade to something else. Fenders, bumper, front end can be swapped over too. Interior: Everything from the driver / passenger portion of the cab forward can swap in with a bit of dissasembly. This includes door panels, dash, steering column (if same setup as yours) gauges (if both clusters have a blue surrounding, then they can be swapped, but I'm unsure of the white, electronic-speedo driven gauge cluster) etc. Basically, whatever you can think of, you can probably swap it over. As far as seats go, if your MJ has a bench seat, and the XJ has buckets, a bit of searching here can show you how to swap over the brackets if you want buckets / a center console. Hope that helps.
  14. Nice Razor grille. Too bad I don't have an FSJ to put it on. I like your idea though, that thing would look great on a wall.
  15. If we're talking strictly horsepower, ignoring torque and gearing, then I would have to say it'd be about 90-100. Basically, If you needed an engine example, look at GM's OHV 2.0 found in the first gen Blazers. The measly 83 horsepower that it pushed out makes me glad I have a respectable 120 horsepower 2.5. Would I like being stuck with 83 horsepower? No, but I'd still drive the hell out of whatever that engine was in.
  16. Well, yes there is "only" one bracket per door ... but look at it. The one bracket runs the full height of the door and has reinforced mounting plates welded onto it. It's a lot more than just putting a small piece of angle inside the door skin at each mirror mount. The purpose, obviously, is to keep the mirrors rigidly in place. If you mount them just to the door skin, they'll move all over the place as the skin flexes. Interesting. Probably going to second guess doing this then. Still, it's always nice to learn something new.
  17. So then mounting that style of mirror would be a no go? Since the brackets aren't inside my door?
  18. Am currently running the OEM stock mirrors (old picture) And I was thinking about going this route eventually, because for whatever reason, I like the look of these type of mirrors better than my current ones. I won't get these exact mirrors, but I'll probably end up shelling out bucks for the OEM chrome Jeep ones w/ all the mounting bracketry etc. Now, aside from making the truck look like it has "wings", and being made fun of for having them; can anyone tell me if there are any serious cons to these mirrors? Aside from the obvious "I will have to drill holes in the door, water can leak inside from the mounting holes, they're fugly, etc etc" what are your opinions on them?
  19. Sweeeeeeet! :clapping: FINALLY got around to refinishing the J10 emblems today. Ran out of flat black and had to throw glossy black on the other one. Should have just used glossy for both.
  20. Actually, when you get down to it, I prefer Hagar over Roth any day. I've always personally thought Hagar was a better frontman than Roth, mainly because Dave was more about the party aspect and Sam was about the show. But last night, I wasn't disappointed; Roth and the gang really shined, and brought out some old tunes that I havent heard played live in years. Still.... I'd pay for a front row ticket if Sam was back in the band before I'd pay for a front row DRL show. :D Heard and have listened to Crosby and Williams. Afraid I haven't listened to Como, but I have heard of him. :dunno:
  21. Taking the gf out for a "romantic evening" tonight to the Amway Center to see my favorite band, Van Halen. This'll be a good time to see how the old MJ runs out on the open road after all the recent work I've done to it. Will be sure to post pictures of the concert and stuff on the way there. Anybody else going to see them besides me? The opening tonight is supposed to be Kool & The Gang. Never heard of them, but they were before my time. Should be an interesting night.
  22. More updates to the "Heep"; on an related note, that's the name my friends and I have have given it. Kind of an inside joke... :brows: :D Started tearing down the inside late last week to add an additional ground to the dash circuit. Went pretty smoothly (after I fixed my tail-light problems) and was able to notice a big improvement the new ground provides. The lighting barely bogs down anymore when I'm running the heavy duty stuff. Gotta thank Cruiser54 for the how-to's. Passenger's side, behind the kickboard. Not too ratty over here. Might pretty it up one day; but for now, it'll do. Driver's side. Anyone know what that wire is that's hanging down low (closest to the floor)? Been trying to figure that one out for a while... Valuable work space. Here's where the real magic happens. :shake: After I figured out the lighting problem; and re-assembled my interior (again ) started to do a bit of clean-up work. The inside after a few Gunk-ings; also, the only Chrysler thing on my Jeep currently. :fs2: Exterior of the aluminum cover. Scuffed up with some 60 grit, and ready for painting. Not to mention awaiting flecks of old paint to fall off. First coat of "Daytona Yellow". Looks like regular yellow to me... :shake: After 3 coats, mostly taped and awaiting the black stripes. First coat of glossy black. Had to add another coat of yellow to some parts after I scraped old paint flecks off. Somehow I ended up buying glossy black when I wanted flat black. Saturday comes and I got the stripes done, so I shot the crusty oil cap with some new paint. Decided the glossy black wasn't a bad idea afterall. My old nemesis, the engine head. Forgot to mention that not only did I Gunk the engine compartment a few days earlier (made it look 10 times better than what it was), but my old valve cover was cracked AND warped. That's Karma I guess. :ack: Important oil lifters. Almost ended up taking apart most of the engine that day. Dropped a new VC bolt down into the lift shaft and about had a meltdown. Luckily, my old man had a considerably long magnet and I was able to fish it out; so the crisis was averted. Everything assembled. Not the best paint job, but it's good enough for me. A better shot of everything. Since I was on a roll, decided the next morning to go over to my chap's house and trade work for work. I help him on his '86 Grand Prix, and he helps me on the Heep. Here's after we finally got that damn header panel off. Felt weird taking the "face" off of a car for the first time. Don't know why, but whenever I look at a car, I view it as having a personality (face, etc.) New, old quarter panel. Now that that's on, I have a 90% straight truck. :clapping: My friend's kept asking me what the "PM" stood for on the bumper, and I didn't know. Fortunately, they have now dubbed my truck the "Pre-Menopause" truck. Adding more goodies. Now everyone can tell what my truck is when I drive down the road. :chillin: Finally, as of today, this is how she sits.... Until the next time I start adding things. :brows: :wrench:

  24. Got that dang thing off yesterday. Appreciate the information and pic guys.
  25. How the heck do you get to the bolts inside behind the passenger's headlight? A buddy of mine and myself have everything else unbolted, but we can't figure out how to get behind the assembly to get at the 2 bolts holding the fender on. :dunno: :dunno: Trying to keep most of the bolt holes intact so the new fender will fit right. I really hope that I don't have to drop the radiator, bumper, and everything else on the front to do this.....
