  1. 1. Might be going out on a limb, but I need a picture of how the factory speakers are setup on the doors, and behind the bench/buckets inside the B pillar. Why I need this is I need to figure out if I am going to have to weld a piece to fix the "chewed" part of the speaker mounting place. Not only that, there are about a dozen screw holes where the PO or POs tried to mount speakers, failing of course. Refer to the picture below to see what my problem is. It's hard to explain adequately, so I made a crappy MS paint picture. Apologies if it's hard to follow. Because of this dilemma, and the fact there are a dozen or so "new" speaker mounting holes in BOTH of my doors, I figure I'll have to mount the speaker to the tempered hardboard I replaced the factory stuff with. 2. The second problem I face is because I do not have the factory door "box surround" on the speakers, my speakers bulge over the outside and cause me to hit my window crank when I use it to roll the window up and down. Obviously, I'm getting tired of this, so any advice as to what to do? Other than getting new door panels and doing the restoration I already did to my own, of course. Anybody ever try to get the black top of the door panel off after Gorilla Gluing it? :rotf:  3. I saw door panels for the first time this past weekend without speaker mounts in them. Just an armrest and a window crank. So... where would the speakers have been mounted in those? I'm assuming behind the horizontal grill looking piece in the kneeboard? (Like in a Geo Tracker or some such small compact car) -------------------- On an unrelated note, now would be a good time for my friend to sell me his XJ so I can pillage it for parts. :fs1: Too bad that won't be happening anytime soon.
  2. Good progress man! Not bad for a freebie. In fact, it eerily reminds me of the same looking truck I found at a Pick and pull in Daytona beach last weekend. the exterior was the exact same looking, inch for inch as yours. Except it had maroon interior and yours is gray, lol. You've given me reason to get off my lazy @$$ and start working on my own floor pans. :fs1:  :thwak: Also,  awesome J20. Can't believe there are still any left on the road.
  3. 1987, Comanche SporTruck (?) Renix 4.0 / AX-5 / 231(?) w/ Select-Trac 4WD / D30 / D35 / SWB Build Date: 1987 - Toledo Ohio Plant Current Location: LQK (Pick and Pull) *Soon to be crushed most likely* :( Status: Awaiting passerby's to salvage parts to keep their MJ's on the road. Notes: Assuming this was a halfway finished project when it got turned in. The original color seems to be faded white or gray. And if it was a SporTruck, it would have had the original black stick stripes. Maroon colored interior in pristine condition when it was turned in only a few days before. Current owner: LQK (Daytona, FL branch)
  4. 1989, Comanche Pioneer Renix 4.0 / AW-4 (Auto) / 231(?)w/ Select Trac 4WD / D30 / D35 / SWB Build Date: 1989 - Toledo Ohio Plant Current Location: Daytona, FL (LQK Pick and Pull) *Soon to be crushed most likely* :( Status: Awaiting passerby's to salvage parts to keep their MJ's on the road. Notes: Factory sliding back mirror. Grey colored w/ Maroon and white "Pioneer" stick decals. Maroon colored interior with most of it in fairly good shape. Current owner: LQK (Daytona, FL branch)
  5. Ha, that's definitely one way to do it.
  6. Well, the reason I brought up yellow, is because I wanted the interior of the cab (pillar trims and the like excluding the dash, seats, visors and roof) yellow, and everything else black. Not sure how decided on this I am. Most likely, laziness will occur, and I'll keep rocking the turquoise look.
  7. Same. Shame it was dinged up, and I didn't have the right tools w/ me. Goes to show you that you should be prepared for anything I s'pose. :dunno:
  8. Seems like my posts are few and far between these days. Back from the graveyard with new news in tow. Not literally of course though. Sort of hard for me to tow anything other than my own @$$ out of bed these days  Went off to the LKQ P&P over in Daytona today with my old man. Truck's been running great since I've gotten the new steering shaft, box, and alignment done. Now that it drives good, I figure it's time to start making it look good. :chillin: The LKQ over in Daytona is a massive place. Everything is neatly organized and it was a real surprise considering what other forms of crap Junkyards I usually go to.... Like this, a straight path with everything in nicely spaced, uniform lines. Quality stuff here. Ew gross, General Motors cars.... Just kidding. I'll always have a spot in my heart for GM's cars, even if I may never own one again. :rotf: Everything is organized into the "Big 3" categories. With everything else in the far back corner under "Imports". It only felt like I had to walk a mile to get to Chrysler's lot. Of course, I ended up walking this path about 4 times today. So it probably was a mile or so. With my wheelbarrow, tools, and old man in tow, we scoured through the ruins of all the cars. I stopped for a bit to take a unique picture of the cars. 89 Cherokee in that shot. I ended up pulling a decent bit from that particular Chero. Of course, that couldn't quench the thirst that everyone here gets when they go to a JY. They're in it for the big bass, or in this case... the quality MJ on perches. Look at that old Pioneer goodness. Shame it ended up here. :( Frontal shot of the Pioneer. I pulled the badges off, and took note of the VIN number. 242 I6 gone to waste with only 150K'ish miles on it. I laughed a bit when I saw what the guy wrote on the door when they took it in. :help:  Snagged a few bits from the 89 Pioneer, unfortunately I couldn't snag the sliding mirror in the back. Lack of tools and knowledge/patience got the better of me. Plus, there was a big, literal dent in the mirror in the passenger side corner. I can only wonder what caused it.... Finally made it to the back after going through 8 or so cherokees to find something I never thought I'd get to see in real life; an '82(?) J10. Unfortunately, I couldn't grasp the concept of what I was seeing. I really couldn't justify this to my dad, who looked at me with confusion. Me thinks someone needed a very specific corner piece that required them to turn the side of the bed into a piece of a playdoh sculpture? And yes, the frame jutting off to the side was still connected to the rest of the body. You could literally pick it up and flop it around. What a damn shame. The thing looked like it had survived a trip through the wrecker, as you can probably tell. Luckily, I pulled 2 emblems off the old girl. I guess she can live on with my truck. ;) If only I had been able to snatch the front D44 and rear D60... About 3 hours into my trip, found this one hiding from me in Dakota infested waters. Not today Dodge. Did my obligations and pulled the VIN from this one too, as well as a factory cig lighter. Looks pretty good in my truck now. And yet another 242. I couldn't even remember how many of these I saw today, must have been at least 12 or so just going to waste. At the end of the day, I tallied my final results. $190.82 and 4 hrs worth of work later I was the new owner of 2 4x4 badges 2 Laredo badges 2 Comanche badges 1 Pioneer badge 1 Jeep XJ rear hatch badge 1 4.0 Litre badge 1 4.0 HO badge 1 J10 "Jeep" badge 1 J10 AMC Jeep logo badge 2 Front headlight chrome trim mounts 1 OEM black Jeep steering wheel w/ matching black horn button 2 OEM factory clocks Full Renix era gauge cluster set Shifter boot 1 side view mirror 1 OEM cig lighter 4 Hurricane style aluminum rims. The tires are dry rotted though. No biggie, I was going to get some new ones in a few weeks anyway. :chillin: Finally I can get back to doing some serious upgrades. First on my list? Installing a radio, and clock. :wrench:
  9. Same here Pete. I've been wanting to send some $ off for some stickers, and just to help out w/ the site. I don't know what I'd do if the MJ Madness suddenly went off the map
  10. Made my life monumentally easier. Thanks Rob  :brows:
  11. Somebody snagged the headliner I was going to pull somehow. Guess I'm not the only MJ'er in town.... But I'm headed off to bigger ponds today so If I find one in good shape, I'll snag it for ya. Yeah, finding a straight rear bumper, or ESPECIALLY a factory receiver hitch would be like winning the lottery. :rotf:
  12. Not sure how I missed the 4x4 and Big Ton package badge for the 'Manche. Also forgot to add the "Country" badge for the Chero.
  13. Just wondering... Anybody got a detailed list of the different badges for the Comanche's throughout the years w/pictures? I'm thinking about getting a hold of some badges when I find the time to for my restoration, but I'm not sure if there were any great variations on badge design, etc. Ex: Laredo, Pioneer, Command-Trac, Fuel Injected etc etc. Also, a bit off topic but... does anyone have the same list for XJ's? And even J10's, if anyone can remember back that far? :shake: Hard I know, but I'd appreciate it greatly. ------- Not sure if I have everything nailed here, but I think I have it mostly down. Comanche: Laredo Pioneer Command-Trac(?) Fuel Injection 4.0 (HO/Regular) 2.5 Litre 2.1 Turbo Diesel 2.8 V6 Cherokee: Briarwood Laredo Sport 4.0 (HO/Regular) 2.5 Litre(?) 2.8 V6(?) 4 Wheel Drive(?) J10: J10 J20 Laredo(?) Command-Trac(?) Quadra-Link(?) 4 Wheel Drive
  14. Thanks for the tips guys. Appreciate it! Has anybody done a yellow interior (IE: Yellow A/B pillar trim w/ black seats etc.) that looked decent? Thinking about opting for yellow to go with the truck when I repaint it.... Not 100% sure yet though... :hmm:
  15. IIRC.... there was a thread around here somewhere where someone repainted all the trim pieces inside the truck (A/B/under the window etc..) and used a certain spray with decent quality results. Does anyone know where this thread is? Or better yet, what you can use to respray the trim pieces? I'm going from turquoise blue to a black color most likely. Just to show you guys; I have this color throughout. And I'd like to go to this. Image provided by knever3. Very beautifully done interior
  16. Ah... this conversation again. Just goes to show you what the gov't believes is right for "stimulating" the economy. I find it hard to believe that anything was wrong with that Grand Chero. and it goes to show you how much $#!& you can put that 4.0 through before it finally gives up. I blame the government for the my inability to find the parts I need in a Junkyard when I need them. Morons... :thwak: :thwak: :thwak: :hateputers: :fs1:
  17. Tell me about it... I've had that bugger crush one of my fingers. :fs1:  :fs1: Wierd thing is... I was doing the exact same thing you were Jim. Hope you're feeling better man!
  18. Thanks for the picture. I have that FSM, and searched through it a while, but never stumbled across the Cargo light setup. Hope it'll help others at least. As for me, back to searching through pages and pages I s'pose.
  19. Anybody have a wiring diagram of how the factory cargo light setup is wired through the truck? I would appreciate it. And, if anyone can provide a picture of what the factory light looks like, I would very much appreciate it. Reason for that is because I figure if I get my friend's 93 Laredo XJ, I'll be doing an entire interior / partly exterior swap with my truck. It'll get me back on the road faster towards my ultimate goal of complete restoration and personalization. Besides, there's LOTS of times where I wish I had that damn cargo light handy... :fs1: :( ------- EDIT: Also, If I can't find a factory cargo light setup, is there any sort of aftermarket setup that anyone recommends in particular? I'm always open to whatever suggestions you guys have.
  20. Just picked up this album tonight; and thought I'd post a song here. I've been looking forward to getting this for months. Can't get enough Sammy Hagar in my life, just sayin'. Not to mention Satriani's mad riffs. srm4mjRVWFY Anyone else get any new albums recently of some good bands? I'm always interested in getting new tunes.
  21. Laughed so damn hard, I didn't think laughter like that was even possible anymore. :rotf:
  22. Thanks Pete. Feels good knowing I'm getting knowledgeable for once  :brows:
  23. Just wanted to know if this is feasible. Considering the difference in what the AC is being swapped into (going from being inside a HO 4.0 bay to a 2.5 bay) what am I going to have to look out for when doing this, other than mounting locations, moving other electrical things (wiring etc.) out of the way, new ac line locations and possibly a new alternator (considering mine is being used in a non-ac system. Not sure if I'm going to need one honestly... :hmm: )? Am I missing anything here? This is of course in direct correlation to if I buy my friend's 93 XJ sometime in the near future. He's getting tired of dumping $ into it and I need a new parts truck. :clapping:
  24. Waiting to send off the new Steering Box I spent $150 on to get a refund and then get a new Steering Shaft for $150. Funny how life turns out. Next on my list is a possible purchase of my friend's 93' XJ Laredo. Welcome to the world of having a totally redone interior. Not sure if I'm going to keep the OEM Turquoise Blue in though... :jump:
  25. From what I've been able to look up, I haven't seen any info on being able to replace just the U-Joints. I figured you needed a higher end model to be able to interchange the U-Joints, or that no-one sells the U-joints. That's the problem with mine. My U-Joint is completely shot. :fs1: Yeah, that was the one I was going to order. Very glad you got my build date and everything. Also, very glad you happen to be a Jeep tech. Saves me the trouble of having to look up myself the build date, etc! As far as recalls go, I figured they didn't have any info on mine; I was going to contact Chrysler, but I heard they stopped having info for the trucks before 88. :(
